Texto completoA new type of African Francophone theater has emerged since the 1990s, which announced a breaking point within the African literary landscape. This generation of contemporary writers from the African diaspora engages with notions of fragmentation, displacement, and instability that suggest a reconfiguration of chaos in Francophone African literary productionsince the Independences. The history of African literatures since 1960, when a large majorityof former African colonies became independent, is marked by the theme of chaos with significant differences. Indeed, between 1960 and 1970, writers of the « disenchantment »denounce social and political chaos in Africa following the emergence of new dictatorships inthe post-independence period, African theatrical aesthetics by the end of the 1970s andthrough the 1980s, on the contrary, work on an exit out of the African chaos from the perspective of revalorization, providing modern contextualizations for African myths andtraditions. Since the early 1990s a rupture is established within new African theater that creates a performative space of « chaos-monde », which manifests the hybrid reality of the African diaspora at local and global levels. By reading accross theatrical works by this generation that include Caya Makélé (Congo), Koffi Kwahulé (Ivory Coast), Marcel Zang(Cameroon), José Pliya (Benin), Kossi Efoui (Togo), and Dieudonné Niangouna (Congo), Ished light on the new techniques and aesthetics of an energetic chaos. A close examination ofthese new settings of chaos allows for a better understanding of the diasporic nature and transnational perspective from contemporary African theater

Texto completoLong confined to the margins of literary history, the short-story genre in French-speaking Africa has often lacked visibility among critics. Between a long-standing latent disinterest and nascent scientific research today, the short-story has for too long been absent in the African literary field. However, this peripheral posture seems inaccurate and incongruous nowadays, when one revisits its historical trajectory, and especially when we consider the interest that some writers take in it. Having achieved its autonomy as a genre, the short-story can no longer be considered a « premature novel », an « illegitimate genre » etc. This obsolete and old-fashioned vision is here reassessed, and allows, somehow, to direct the critical gaze (on its forms, its favorite themes ...), towards a more objective conception, built from the latest developments of the genre. Like the other narrative forms, and perhaps even more elaborately, the short story, in the French-speaking world, addresses the authors’ social experiences, summarizes their vision of the world and shows the process of its evolution in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is the overwhelming evidence of the observed and experienced reality of the short-story writer in a given time period in the history of his society. The short-story genre takes on the task of bringing to light, with a touch of realism, the worries and phenomena behind the dislocations and transformations of African societies. Based on new social representations taking place in Africa, it bears witness to a transformed Africa, stubbornly oriented towards fundamentally modern structures. For this reason, this genre tends to claim a new perspective, based on a debate devoid of any bias which has impacted it so far

Texto completo"Novelty" and "violence»! These two notions are recurrent in the comments about Francophone African literatures. They are at the heart of all its historiography since some decades now. One can hardly speak of Amadou Kourouma , Sony Labou Tansi, Sami Tchak or Jean-Luc Raharimana without arises the question of novelty and, at the same time , that of violence in or of scripture. But this evidence, this raw truth deserves to be examined in order to know exactly what novelty and violence return. If they can be addressed independently, it is their confrontation, with writing as a meeting point, which appears concrete elements for literary history. Indeed, studying them together, this thesis tries to see to what extent they imply one and the other. Therefore, after evaluating the concepts of novelty, out in the field of Francophone African literature, we relied on four authors whose aesthetic and trajectories are representative of major trends in the writings of violence. They suggest policy all changes over the years. From the overall Sony Labou Tansi’s writing, to writing game Edem Awumey, through the rehashing of Kossi Efoui and Theo Ananissoh’s minimalism, it is possible to monitor the introduction of new forms of writing and to find the gateway to new models of representation

Texto completoThe african contemporary writer abandons the writing techniques of his predecessors. He uses all the elements of the text, of the speech, of the character, of the time, of the space, of the story. . . Removing them from any reference to a pre-existing system. The substitution of the concrete for the abstract and the repetition are a sort of definition of things. So the writer faces two difficulties. On the one hand, he has to express the population's revolutionary hopes and make them evercome. He has to convince his reader. And on the other hand, he must find an answer to this question: how can we convey social conflicts in the shape of images, symbols and myths which belong to a definite collective memory and remain at the same time comprehensible by all the readers. The emotional intensity and the affective force which are contained in these images, symbols and myths are more expressive and affective than any other form of communication. From that time, we can't consider the african literature just as a form or as a report. An ethnologique approach is necessary to understand the novel. Thus a new stage of writing requires a new method of reading and interpretation

Texto completoSymbolism and African reality in the narrative works of Tchicaya U Tam'si is the title of this thesis. With it we face the task to study the tchicayen symbolism. We shall bring out the stylistic scheme followed by the author and the reality unfolding through his writings. The narrative work of Tchicaya U Tam'si which we present is a tetralogy. The first three novels represent a trilogy with titles taken from the world of animals: Les cancrelats (The cockroaches), Les méduses (The sea-nettles), Les phalènes (The moths) and the fourth novel Ces fruits si doux de l'arbre à pain (These sweet fruits of the baobab), which followed, symbolizes the extension of the trilogy. We define this as a narrative world without reticence showing an affinity to what Barthes called in defining the French novel of the XIXth century "an autarkic universe which creates its own dimensions and limits, disposing here its time, its space, its population, its collection of objects and myths. " to embrace this universe we shall systematically study its genesis, we shall point out the different structures and interconnections and we shall then endeavor a systematization of the tchicaven symbolism. The conclusion will be dedicated to the ambiguity coming to its own in these novels

A specific litrary genre, short stories turn out to be more peculiar still when african and malagasy authors choose, alongside otheir litrary types as novels and plays, to devot themselves to thes. In their writings, with texts varying not only in length but also in period (generally the post-colonial period) anhd in place, short stories take on the different colours and charms of these far-off lands. But through imaginary characters they give opportunities to discover others cultures, others views of the world. Each of these writings contributes to the development of the litrary type that are short stories, and to the opening to that world
