Texto completoThis Ph.D. thesis generally aims to establish accurate and efficient analytical and numerical toolsdevoted to the analysis of buckling and post-buckling phenomena likely to appear in sandwichstructures under various loading cases. The achieved analytical developments give rise to numerousaccurate closed-form expressions for the (global/local) buckling modes observed in practice and theassociated critical loadings. A 1D "sandwich beam" enriched finite element model is then developedbased on the previous analytical solutions with a particular focus on the core kinematics. Theresulting numerical program includes robust arc-length/path-following as well as branch-switchingtechniques, which allow one to deal efficiently with the possible strong geometric and materialnon-linearities encountered during the incremental calculations and handle the possible bifurcationpoints in a systematic way without introducing any imperfection. Such a numerical tool enablesthe buckling and post-buckling analysis (until advanced post-critical states) of elastic or plasticsandwich beam-columns and highlights, in an efficient way, the modal interaction phenomenaspecific to sandwich materials and associated to secondary modes

Texto completoRutting, due to permanent deformations of unbound materials, is one of the principal damage modes for low traffic pavements. The flexible pavement design methods remain empirical. These mechanistic methods do not characterize the inelastic behaviour of these materials (only linear elasticity is used as mechanical model) and do not predict the rutting under large loading cycles number. A simplified method, based on the concept of the shakedown theory developed by Zarka for metallic structures under cyclic loadings, to estimate the permanent deformations of unbound granular materials (UGM) subjected to traffic loading has been developed and presented in the framework of this study. The mechanical initial states of granular layers are taken into account with an anisotropic hyperelastic model and the calculation of the rut depth evolution with time is carried out. Based on repeated loading triaxial tests, a general procedure has been developed for the determination of the material parameters of the constitutive model. The results of a finite elements modelling of the long-term behaviour of a flexible pavement with the simplified method are presented and compared with the results of the LCPC full scale pavement experiment

Texto completoThe present work follows a first approach where a strategy for identifying the shape and the parameters of cohesive-zone laws has been developed for homogeneous materials. The extension of this method to heterogeneous material requires the knowledge of the local stress state. The study aims at developing a local characterization method for mechanical properties and stresses. This method is based on the constitutive equation gap principles and relies on the knowledge of mechanical kinematic fields and particularly of the strain fields. These fields are obtained by the numerical differentiation of displacement fields measured by digital image correlation. This identification method is based on the iterative minimization of an energy norm involving the secant elastoplastic tensor. Various numerical simulations were used to illustrate the performance of the procedure for locally identifying heterogeneous property fields, and to characterize its robustness and its stability with respect to noise to the values of the algorithm initialization parameter and to the mesh refinement. Finally, various experimental tests with different specimen geometries were performed and a test has been developed to obtain a controlled heterogeneous initial state. The multilinear elastoplastic identification results showed the ability of the method to identify the local behavior properties on heterogeneous materials

Texto completoComputational homogenization methods allow circumventing issues associated to analytical or semi-analytical approaches, for predicting the effective behavior of heterogeneous materials whose phase are described by a nonlinear behavior, more precisely when microstructures have complex morphologies or a history-depedendent behavior, or when considering finite strains. In this work, several contributions to computational homogenization methods for modeling nonlinear heterogeneous materials are proposed. In a first part, we introduce a method for homogenizing meterials whose phases are perfectly elastoplastic. The technique extends the Non Uniform Transformation Field Analysis (NTFA) method by développing a return-mapping algorithm to update macroscopic internal variables. In a second part, a method is introduced for the homogenization of nonlinear composites whose phases are nonlinearly elastic, at both small and finite strains. The approach is based on the construction of potentials associated to the effective behavior in the form of a database whose discrete values are computed through Finite Element Computations realized on a Representative Volume Element (RVE). An original interpolation scheme is introduced, which is based on artificial Neural Networks to reduce the number of computed values which can be distributed randomly in the parameter space. It is then possible to introduce parameters associated to the microstructure in the constitutive law, such as volume fraction or constitutive parameters of local phases, for optimization of the related non linear structure response

Texto completoThis work presents an homogenization model to simulate the elastoplastic behavior of resin mortars. The influence of the geometry and the spatial orientations of aggregates was introduced as well as the presence of porosity. In the elastic phase, comparisons between simulations and experimental results (ultrasonic wave propagation method) show that the model provides satisfactory predictions of the behaviors of epoxy resin-based mortars. In plastic phase, the equivalent behavior has been implemented using the tangent modulus approach and an isotropic approximation of the matrix tensor rigidities was build in order to compute the Eshelby tensor. Isotropic and kinematics hardening laws have been implemented. In order to validate the model, tests were performed on organic matrix composites and short reinforcements. Comparisons were also made with results from the literature on metal matrix composites. The proposed modeling adequately predicts the overall experimental results
