The heat transfer from the wall to the process fluid in a PRIMIX helical static mixer has been investigated using numerical simulations. The flow is in the laminar regime, Re = 7 to 18. The simulations concentrate on heat transfer from a heated wall to the process fluid. Two different mixers are examined. A conventional one in which the elements are not connected to the wall of the tube and a special one, in which the elements are soldered to the tube wall. In the latter case the heat transfer is enhanced by about 23% which is attractive when dealing with fluids with a low thermal conductivity

Lobed mixers have been the subject of research and development since the 1950s. The turbulence driven nature of the mixing process has been difficult to capture using CFD analysis, and much of the work performed to-date has been via experimental studies. This paper presents some of the findings from an on-going project to utilize analysis to assess the performance of a lobed mixing device, and several potential geometry modifications.

Jet pumps in Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) have risk of damages by Flow-Induced Vibration (FIV) for when increasing the core flow rate for power uprating. Especially, the vibration by leakage flow at the slip joint between an inlet mixer and a diffuser can cause serious damage on jet pumps. It is one of the obstructive factors for power uprating. Another problem is crud deposition on the inside surface of the inlet mixer and nozzle. Thus fouling causes performance degradation of jet pumps. Current guidelines for legal timber harvests are not sustainable. Timber yields can be substantially enhanced by the application of cost-effective silvicultural treatments that increase stocking and growth of timber trees. Growing interest in tropical forest restoration offers opportunities to promote the management of secondary and degraded forests for timber, and mixed plantations with native species. Timber yields from these restored areas would reduce pressure on natural forests – allowing larger areas to be set aside for protection and reducing harvesting intensity in natural forests.

The research was conducted in a circulating fluidized bed having diameter and height of riser of 5 and 200 cm., respectively, at ambient temperature and pressure. The objective was to study hydrodynamics of mixed-feed between sand and various biomasses including rice husk, sawdust, and bagasse at 50% by volume.
