The article presents the results of the sociological survey on the demand for social work specialists and their professional self-realization in practical activity in the regional bodies of social protection system (on the example of the Irkutsk region). In the conditions of the development of social protection system for the population, there is a shortage of social work specialists and the problem of their employment after graduation. The article analyzes the issue of employment of specialists in social work and the development prospects of this job market segment. The authors provide the results of the sociological survey on the opinion of social work graduates of Baikal State University on the prestige or the lack of prestige of the profession and on the problems of placement and employment. On the basis of the research, recommendations were prepared for the current students majoring in sociology for their successful professional self-realization and obtaining employment in their field of study. The article also provides the results of the expert interview with the participation of the heads and experts of social protection authorities of the Irkutsk region. The experts characterized the need for social work professionals in general, and in a social protection system in particular. The study revealed the problem of matching between the professional training of social workers (according to the educational level and specialization) and the positions held. On the basis of the research, recommendations are proposed to enhance the prestige of the specialty «Social Work» and the demand for such specialists, and also how to increase the chances for professional self-realization of social work professionals.

The article analyzes the components of the psychological characteristics of investigative activities through the prism of compliance with the principles of criminal procedure legislation in the implementation of tactics in the production of investigative actions. High requirements to the level of training of employees of preliminary investigation bodies are emphasized, among which the necessity of formation of knowledge about professionally significant components of psychological characteristics of their further professional activity is highlighted. The authors analyze the main directions of professional activity of the investigator (social, search (cognitive), reconstructive, communicative, organizational and certification activities) during the preliminary investigation of criminal cases. It is noted that the high prestige of the investigator's profession has a positive role, encouraging law graduates to choose a profession that society needs. At the same time, if the graduate is guided solely by considerations of prestige, "romantic aura" of the profession, the prospects of promotion, the level of material security, his motivation can hardly be called positive.

There is a sharp contradiction between the high importance of work performed for society and a low professional status of general education teachers in the Russian society.The article presents outcomes of a sociological survey “Professional Identity of Modern Teacher” carried out by the Monitoring Research Department of the Moscow State University of Psychology & Education in the spring of 2016.This survey reflects the teachers’ self-assessment of the status of their profession.A total of 1,024 teachers of general education organizations were surveyed in 9 federal districts of the Russian Federation, except the Crimea.The survey was conducted on a three-stage stratified probabilistic sample.The research model of the teacher's social status includes the analysis of the three leading components: prestige, respect and satisfaction with work process.According to the results of the survey, despite the teachers' low assessment of the social prestige of their professional group, they perceive their activities as respected by students and their parents, and also feel satisfied with the results of their work.

The concept of professional ethics is partly comprised of what a professional should or should not do in the work place. It also encompasses a much greater part of the professionals life. If a professional is to have ethics then that person needs to adopt that conduct in all of his dealings. There are professional codes of ethics to consider and adopt in the way professionals conduct themselves in and out of the work place. This article explaines things that are included in professional ethichs, consist of concepts like: efficiency, professionalism, working well, little waste, diligence, punctuality, frugality, humbleness, spirit of prestige, need for achievement, open-minded, self-discipline and responsibility, self-reliance and the interpretation of religious thoughts. These ethics will be the basis of national development and needs to be reidentified in this 21st century.

Various studies show that the rating of the social workers profession is not very prestige in comparison with other professions. Often the leading motives why people choose to do social work are those guided by relative ideals, such as the desire to help people or to accomplish something socially significant not because of the prestige of profession. However, judgements about the occupational prestige in the wider community depend largely on the professional beliefs of social workers themselves and on how social workers themselves are positioning their profession. The focus of the authors of this article on the occupational prestige is analysed from the perspective of social workers in the sector. The study was carried out using a quantitative approach. In this study, the occupational prestige is considered in the context of symbolic capital. According to P. Bourdieu all forms of symbolic capital accumulates through relations of exchange The study results indicate that a significant part of the respondents feel the lack of authority and symbolic power. The symbolic capital in the form of professional capital is an essential factor of the authority and symbolic power of the social worker's profession, which, in turn, affects the occupational prestige in the society.

Professional certification is arguably a means of validating a practitioner's competency within their trade. Certification can also be beneficial for enhancing a profession's prestige, improving academic programs, and helping to define the profession in question. However, certification can be considered not feasible, effective, or perhaps even necessary. Due to the likelihood of these conflicting viewpoints, it is essential for any profession to determine the support level from its members prior to implementing a certification process. This thesis presents the results from a 1998 survey for the American Evaluation Association, whereby their members responded to items regarding the need, effectiveness, feasibility of enacting a certification system for professional evaluators. Respondents were mixed in their attitudes. A slight majority indicated a certification system could be feasible. However, more respondents were unconfident than confident that certification can be effective or is even necessary; additionally, many were undecided on these issues.

Globalization has demanded professionals who are prepared to operate in competitive markets. In this dynamic environment, in which organizations are constantly revising their business strategies, accounting professionals must also develop new skills that enable them to fulfill their responsibilities adequately. In fact, national and international accounting entities have made efforts to improve and grow the profession in response to emerging needs. The objective of this research is to understand how the professional market is evaluating accounting and accountants in today s business environment. This paper contributes to the study of the accounting profession in Brazil, its focus being the evolution of the profession s prestige. This research was concerned, more specifically, with the institutionalization of the profession in Brazil, the creation of professional associations, the regulation of higher education in Accounting Science, and efforts towards the design and improvement of professional training. The theoretical framework of the study is based on professional sociology. In order to analyze the profession s prestige, weberian theories of class and status, and neo-weberian theories of social class and occupation, were employed. The study is exploratory in nature, as data and information were used to explain the delineation of the profession and to extrapolate the occupational prestige achieved by its professionals. For the study of the profession, the documentary research method was used. The procedure used to assess the status of the profession included semi-structured interviews, which were analyzed through the content analysis method. The results show that the perception of the professional market concerning accountants is strongly impacted by the technical aspects of the profession. However, it was observed that, relative to more active participation by accountants in the decision-making process, perception is lower due to lack of business environment understanding. For its exploratory character, this study was initiated in the professional market and is intended to contribute to the related academic body of work by suggesting ways of achieving professional improvement, which can be used to align training programs, degree programs, and continued education in the field.
A globalização tem demandado profissionais aptos a atuar em mercados competitivos. Neste cenário dinâmico no qual as organizações estão constantemente revendo suas estratégias de negócios, os profissionais da Contabilidade também necessitam desenvolver competências que os habilitem a desempenhar seu papel satisfatoriamente. De fato, organismos nacionais e internacionais vinculados à profissão têm realizado esforços para o aperfeiçoamento da profissão. O objetivo desta pesquisa é verificar como o mercado profissional está avaliando o contador e a Contabilidade no atual ambiente de negócios. A presente pesquisa é uma contribuição ao estudo da profissão do Contador no Brasil, tendo como foco a evolução do prestígio da profissão. Foi realizado um estudo sobre a institucionalização da profissão no Brasil, a criação das entidades de classe, a regulamentação do curso superior em Ciências Contábeis e os esforços para o delineamento e melhoria da formação profissional. A fundamentação teórica se baseia na sociologia das profissões. Para analisar o prestígio da profissão, foram utilizados conceitos das teorias weberianas sobre classe e status e teorias neoweberianas sobre classes sociais e ocupações. O estudo é de natureza exploratória pois foram utilizados dados e informações com o objetivo de explicar o delineamento da profissão e o prestígio ocupacional alcançado pelos profissionais. Para o estudo da profissão, foi utilizado o procedimento de pesquisa documental. O procedimento utilizado para avaliação do status da profissão foi o de entrevistas semiestruturadas, as quais foram analisadas com base no método de análise de conteúdo. Os resultados obtidos evidenciam que a percepção do mercado profissional acerca do contador está fortemente impactada pelos aspectos técnicos da profissão. No entanto, observou-se baixa percepção relativa à atuação mais ativa dos contadores no processo decisório, em virtude de pouco entendimento do negócio e comunicação deficiente. Pelo seu caráter exploratório, iniciou-se no mercado profissional e tem a pretensão de contribuir com a Academia e às Instituições ligadas à profissão, no sentido de sugerir formas de aperfeiçoamento profissional que possam ser utilizadas para alinhar programas de treinamento, formação e educação continuada.

A forte identidade a um grupo socialmente valorizado aumenta a autoestima e causa uma atitude positiva face ao futuro. Neste contexto pretende-se compreender o efeito da identidade à universidade e das aspirações profissionais de estudantes de Psicologia, no desânimo face ao emprego, e o impacto das variáveis prestígio percebido e competição percebida na identidade à universidade. Estudou-se ainda o efeito da dimensão do grupo na identidade à universidade e na competição percebida. Os resultados revelaram que quanto maior a identidade, a perceção de prestígio, a competição intergrupal e as aspirações profissionais menor o desânimo de encontrar emprego. Mostraram também que a identidade estava fortemente associada à perceção de prestígio e competição intergrupal e que a dimensão do grupo teve efeitos na perceção de prestígio e competição intergrupal. Estes resultados podem contribuir para uma melhor compreensão da importância de promover uma forte identidade à universidade para o futuro dos alunos; Multiple organizational identities: The impact on risk perception of employment ABSTRACT: A strong identity to a socially valued group increases self-esteem and contributes to a positive attitude towards the future. It is intended to understand effect of the identity to the university and the professional aspirations of psychology students, in the dismay regarding employment. In this context it is intended to evaluate the impact of the variables perceived prestige and the perceived competition in identity to the university. Finally we intended to understand the impact of the university size on the identity and perceived competition. The results showed that the bigger the identity, the prestige perception, the intergroup competition and professional aspirations the less the hopelessness to find a job. They also showed that the identity is strongly associated with prestige perception and intergroup competition and that the group size had strong effects in prestige perception and intergroup competition. These results can contribute to a better understanding of the importance to promote a stronger identity to the university towards the student’s future.

Ce travail s'enracine dans un questionnement sur la mise à l'épreuve historique des discours "naturalistes" qui consistent à discriminer des groupes sociaux en fonction de caractéristiques perçues comme non-sociales (biologie, anatomie, hérédité. . . ). Si cette référence à la nature permet de rationaliser les inégalités dans des régimes contraints par leurs normes égalitaires et libérales, qu'en est-il de ce dispositif lorsque ces groupes transgressent ces "lois naturelles" censées les attacher à certaines places? Tel est le cas des Françaises qui, sous la lIIe République, s'émancipent de leur rôle traditionnel pour s'aventurer dans des professions historiquement masculines. Cette première transgression en génère une seconde: celle que les républicains, hostiles à ces nouvelles doctoresses, avocates ou ingénieures, effectuent en les excluant du principe d'égal accès. Ces affrontements se déploient à travers des litiges sur l'accès des femmes à tel diplôme, grade ou titre, et un débat continu sur leur capacité et leur droit à exercer les professions "viriles". C'est cette controverse, ses arguments et son articulation avec l'évolution de la doxa sur la naturalité de la division sexuée du travail, qui constituent l'objet de cette étude.

This study is focused on the field of design. It examines how people understand and perceive designers and the design professions. The study draws on a phenomenologically informed interactive perspective to provide a methodological approach to understanding what the perception of design is. The relationships between design and occupational prestige, professional status and consumerism are the principal themes that run throughout the research, but the analysis also draws on the data obtained to profile the demographics of designers, particularly in relation to income, gender and education. The research included an occupational prestige assessment, completed by 304 participants from Swinburne University and the University of the Third Age, using multidimensional scaling analysis to provide a mapping of the occupations. Overall, the results indicated that participants find it difficult to differentiate between individual design occupational specialties, but that they see design as distinct from proximate occupations such as artist and architect. The results also confirmed the premise that occupational prestige is multi-dimensional and that raters will use a variety of constructs (including service to the community, not just education and income), to determine their understanding of the perceived social standing of occupations. The findings were further explored within three focus group discussions involving both design and non�design students from Swinburne University. The results indicated that most participants, including the design students, knew relatively little about design and that what they did know was often skewed by media depictions and stereotypes. The final research stage was the development of a mail-out survey questionnaire that was distributed to design educators, members of the Design Institute of Australia and to a non-design, public group. Seven hundred and fifty three questionnaires were completed. As expected the results showed that there are differences between the level of knowledge and understanding of the three participant groups. The lack of knowledge of design and designers, particularly by the public participants, was quite evident, with the two design groups tending to rate design as more professional and of greater importance to society and the economy than the public group. Analyses of the incomes and occupational situations of the design respondents revealed that the designers generally worked in a unique environment characterised by low to middle incomes and very small organisations (except for those in the education sector). Gender differences between income and the positions held in an organisation were also found and would be a useful area for further investigation. The study was useful in that is served to clarify and quantify issues that have been raised in the literature about the poor understanding of design and designers. It provides a platform of information that could be further used in future studies to make more detailed examinations of specific issues.

Resumo: Este texto apresenta e expoe os resultados de um survey com egressos de Ciências Sociais e Economia dos ultimos trinta e cinco anos de tradicionais instituicoes do estado de Sao Paulo. O foco da analise reside nos cientistas sociais, desenvolvida a partir de questões teoricas de uma sociologia dos cientistas sociais, que se difere de outras perspectivas e abordagens anteriores. O survey forneceu dados empiricos para: a) elaborar uma descrição do mercado de trabalho pela situacao e pelas trajetorias ocupacionais, b) caracterizar o perfil social do grupo de egressos, c) definir uma estrategia de pesquisa (com o suporte de uma tradicao de pesquisa em estratificacao social) que conseguisse captar da profissao seus segmentos mais valorizados, de maior posicao social ou de status e prestigio, e d) integrar os objetivos anteriores em uma analise da composicao social das posicoes ocupacionais projetadas por meio deste criterio social. Deste modo, foi possivel esbocar as participações relativas das areas do mercado de trabalho na absorcao dos cientistas sociais, apreender estes segmentos em um continuo valorativo segundo avaliacoes dos proprios membros da profissao e analisar a composicao social destes segmentos (por cor e raca, sexo e origem social), buscando tendencias de abertura e fechamento e nichos de concentracao de atributos sociais. Com a extensao do survey foram possiveis comparacoes com egressos de Economia, seguindo os mesmos procedimentos realizado para os cientistas sociais.
Abstract: This work presents a survey with Social Sciences and Economics alumni from a thirty-five years time span of traditional universities in the state of São Paulo. The focus of the analysis rests on social scientists, developed following theoretical questions of a sociology of social scientists, different from others previous perspectives and attempts. The survey brought empirical data with which we can: a) elaborate a description of the labor market by occupational current situation and work trajectories, b) delineate the social profile of the alumni group, c) define a research strategy (with the support of a tradition in the social stratification field) that could capture from a profession its most valued parts, of higher social position or higher status and prestige, and d) integrate all data into an social composition analysis of the occupational positions projected by that social criterion. In this way, I sketched the relative proportion of labor market areas in absorbing social scientists, grabbed its segments in a valorative continuum, made with evaluations from the members themselves, and analyzed the social composition of these segments (by race, gender and social origins), searching for openness and closure tendencies, and niches that concentrate social attributes. Extending the survey to Economics alumni also made comparisons possible, following the same procedures realized for social scientists.

It analyzes the risks of social adaptation to civil life in Russia — one of the main difficulties of servicemen transferred to the reserve — as well as strategies to overcome them. The urgency of studying this problem by sociologists due to the importance of sociological understanding of specific social adaptation of discharged military personnel and caused by the process problems, because their solution depends not only social and professional well-being of the social group, but also the status of the military in Russian society, the prestige of military service, much lower in the post-Soviet period. Sustainability in entrepreneurship requires corporate social responsibility and ethical principles in leadership. The fact that individual interests are a hidden aim in entrepreneurship puts justice and ethics in the background. Entrepreneurship is based on sustainable, ethical, corporate innovation, and creative thinking. Entrepreneurship, which is set forth with the individual secret goals of entrepreneurs, causes important problems in leadership and managerial context. Especially, managerial pamperdom and prestige entrepreneurship that emerged in professional organizations are introduced to the literature for the first time. It is thought that this chapter will make significant contributions to the fields of entrepreneurship, business, management, and strategy.

This chapter assesses the extraordinary rewards that simultaneously reflected a composer's authority with elite audiences and, by conferring official prestige, molded that authority and shaped the audience's tastes. Honorary titles and Stalin Prizes made and marked the pinnacle of the Soviet cultural elite. Taken together, professional authority, prestige, official status, and unofficial recognition constituted composers' intellectual or creative authority, both individually and as an elite group in Stalinist society. Though diverse audiences granted the authority required to qualify for these extraordinary awards, the criteria by which they were granted were essentially determined by the professional elite, especially members of the Stalin Prize Committee. This committee formed a crucial interface between the Stalinist political leadership and the creative intelligentsia. Ultimately, the musical elite's agency to interpret musical value was used to translate creative authority into social hierarchies and material privilege.

Chapter 7 explicitly identifies the benefits that are derived by both law enforcement in general and individual law enforcement officers. In addition to the obvious benefit of gaining information to facilitate the control/resolution of crime, so too are there benefits in the form of providing law enforcement agencies and agents with a deeper understanding of the communities in which they work and professional development and advancement opportunities. While using informants to gain evidence against offenders that can subsequently be removed from the community, so too do policing efforts benefit from learning the players, plays, strategies and lines of affiliation and loyalty within a community. And, on a personal professional level, those who display an affinity and acumen for recruiting, developing, and managing informants in an effective manner gain status, prestige, and very possibly promotion within their agencies.

Electrical professionals were the ambitious catalysts of an industrial shift from steam to electricity taking place in the United States and Western Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. According to Thomas P. Hughes, Alfred Chandler, and others, that shift was made possible by key inventions in power, transportation, and communication, and by managerial innovations based on them that helped rescale traditional systems of production and distribution. The retooling of American industry fostered a new class of managers of machines and techniques; prominent among them were electrical professionals. The transformation in which these professionals participated was no class revolution, as David Noble has pointed out. Their job was to engineer, promote, improve, maintain, and repair the emerging technical infrastructure in the image of an existing distribution of power. Their ranks included scientists, whose attention was directed to increasingly esoteric phenomena requiring ever more specialized intellectual tools and formal training, electrical engineers, and other “electricians” forging their own new identity from an older one of practical tinkerer and craft worker. Servingmaid to both groups were cadres of operatives from machine tenders to telegraph operators, striving to attach themselves as firmly as possible to this new and highly visible priesthood. Electrical experts before 1900 were acutely conscious of their lack of status in American society relative to other professional groups. The American Institute for Electrical Engineers (AIEE), founded early in 1884, was the last of the major engineering societies to be organized in the nineteenth century. Professional societies had already been organized by civil engineers in 1852, mining engineers in 1871, and mechanical engineers in 1880. The prestige of other groups in the engineering fraternity, especially civil and mechanical engineers, came less from membership in professional societies, however, than from other circumstances. Their practitioners hailed from the upper and middle strata of society, were often products of classical education, and had developed distinctive professional cultures of their own well before the formation of their national organizations. This gave them an established and even aristocratic niche in society.

The relevance of this research is based on the standpoint of the epistemological methodology focusing on the quality of the profession cognition. Therefore, it is presumed that the quality of vocational education is determined by the variable personality traits of teachers (extraversion, openness towards experience and innovation, consciousness, agreeableness, neuroticism). The research object of the current study is the correlation between the personality traits of university of applied sciences teachers and vocational teachers and the curriculum components. The research aims at identifying the correlation between the motives of vocational school and university of applied sciences teacher activities, educational technologies they use, professional roles and their personality traits, as well as identifying the essential differences of the mentioned variables. The quantitative and qualitative research strategies were employed allowing the researchers to perceive and assess the parameters of the correlation between the professional identity of teachers, meaningfulness in pedagogical work, motivation and educational content. The research results revealed that the social, extrinsic, introjected and identified regulation motivation in vocational schools and universities of applied sciences vary considerably; in universities of applied sciences social and identified regulation motivations manifest themselves, whereas in vocational schools a lot of demotivating factors related to the problems of vocational student identity, career prestige of a vocational teacher and external motivation, are observed. The role of vocational school and university of applied sciences teachers in the didactic process also varies: university of applied sciences lecturers identify themselves in the position of the teacher-andragogue, whereas vocational school teachers see their role as a professional (expert). Moreover, the principles of social constructivism in pedagogy and andragogy are more effective among university of applied sciences lecturers, while vocational school teachers often have to rely on the behaviouristic principles of pedagogy for educational assessment and the enhancement of student motivation.

ResumenEl Ciclo Formativo de Grado Superior en Fotografía pertenece a la familia profesional artística de Comunicación Gráfica y Audiovisual y forma parte del sistema educativo español público.Esta comunicación presenta un panorama de la evolución de los estudios sobre fotografía en las Escuelas de Artes Plásticas y Diseño, exponiendo, a través del ejemplo de la Escuela de Arte de Huesca, el caso de la Comunidad Autónoma de Aragón.La implantación del grado superior de fotografía en Huesca se incardinó en la estructura propicia que aportaba una ciudad acostumbrada a valorar este modo de expresión icónica: el Festival Huesca Imagen en su día, una Fototeca pionera en medios y procedimientos, o actualmente el programa Visiona demuestran un interés particular por la imagen fotográfica.Nuestra sólida trayectoria ha pasado necesariamente por cambios tecnológicos y legislativos que han marcado la adaptación de la docencia a continuos retos. Eso es lo que intentamos transmitir año tras año en nuestras aulas.AbstractThe Professional studies of Higher Degree in Photography belongs to the artistic professional family of Graphic and Audiovisual Communication and it is part of the Spanish state educational system. This paper presents an overview of the evolution of these studies on photography in the Arts and Design Schools and explains the example of Aragón, through the case of the School of Art of Huesca.The implementation of the higher degree in Photography in Huesca took place in a suitable background provided by a city used to value this iconic mode of expression: The former Festival “Huesca Imagen”, an innovative Fototeca in procedures and resources; or nowadays, the program “Visiona”, all of them show a particular interest on the photographic image.Our well stablished professional career has necessarily come across technological and legislative changes that have marked the adaptation of teaching to continuous challenges. Aspects such as the application of active methodologies; Project-based learning; Constant references to theoretical and historical issues as well as to contemporary debates on photography; Innovation in evaluation processes and individualized monitoring based on personal tutoring are incorporated into our everyday teaching and facilitate the acquisition of competences according to upcoming curricular, professional and artistic requirements.The training we provide stresses thinking about photography as a process consubstantial to our current society. Through the accreditation in the Erasmus + Program, our students have also the possibility to take part of the European training space and facilitate their future insertion in the labor market.Throughout these years we have had the opportunity to count on the presence of personalities of recognized prestige in various fields of photography, who have cast their vision and their knowledge to the School. From our own perspective, photography is not only an artistic discipline or a professional occupation, but conforms a whole way of life. That is what we try pass on in our classrooms year after year. The demand for tertiary education among young people is growing worldwide. However, in the first months of the studies, freshmen face increasing difficulties, which sometimes negatively affect their learning motivation. For the successful pedagogical process, teachers need to study the motivation of students of the first study year, monitor it and take into account its peculiarities while developing learning materials and choosing educational strategies. The article presents the results of an international study of freshmen’s motivation. The study aim to compare the motivation of the first-year students at the universities of Riga and Smolensk, to identify prevailing motives and to assess the impact of the psychological atmosphere in the student group on their motivation. In the survey carried out in December 2019, 129 students from two universities in Riga (Latvia) and Smolensk (Russia) participated. The tools for collecting information were the technique of diagnostics of learning motivation by 7 content scales and the technique of measuring the psychological climate in the collective by 10 bipolar scales. For data processing, descriptive statistics, analysis of statistical indicators, and Spearman correlation analysis were used. In both national samples, professional motives for learning prevail over other motives, while prestige motives and avoidance motives take the penultimate and last place relatively. The importance of other groups of learning motives is assessed somewhat differently. For the Smolensk sample of students it was found out that their motivation to learn depends on the psychological atmosphere in the group, especially on the overall atmosphere of success in the group. However a similar correlation has not been revealed in the survey of the Riga sample of students. The study shows that a few months after the start of studying, the first-year students’ overall motivation has not dropped below the critical level. However, for more successful training, it could and should be improved. Some ways to increase freshmen’s motivation for learning are proposed in the article.

The personnel potential of the population is a significant factor affecting the successful development of the economy of the region and the country as a whole. The outflow of personnel, the imbalance in the human system, the low level of employment of graduates of vocational education, youth unemployment – all this is a serious problem, particularly due to lack of demand and the low prestige of the profession in a given place and time. This problem requires close attention from the educational authorities to the issues of career guidance, including in terms of its orientation on the basis of the economic state of the labor market.

The article shows the role of digital machine technologies used in feed production. The analysis of intelligent solutions used in the designs of modern balers from the world's leading manufacturers of agricultural machinery is carried out. It is noted that electronic systems not only perform information functions during the operation of forage harvesters, but also provide control over the operation of both individual assemblies and systems of balers, and the entire machine-tractor unit. Digital technologies make it possible to optimize the operation of the forage harvester, improve the quality of harvested forage, reduce environmental risks, improve the working conditions of machine operators, as well as increase the attractiveness and prestige of agricultural professions, and attract promising young personnel to agricultural production.

The development of rural businesses and the implementation of innovations in rural areas depends on possibilities to realize individual’s potential, and the opportunities to develop initiative and creativity of young people. The aim of the study was to reveal the significance of socio-environment factors for the vocational decision making of senior pupils from secondary school in rural areas. The factors were analyzed from the viewpoint of senior pupils and members of rural community. The object of the research – the socio-environment factors of vocational purposefulness of young people in rural communities. The research tasks focus on the attitudes of rural community members and young people toward factors that influence the vocational purposefulness of youth in rural areas. Also, the differences between two groups were analyzed. The sample consisted of 280 respondents: 100 secondary school senior pupils (56% girls and 44% boys, the mean age – 16 years) and 180 rural community members (80% women and 20% men, 35 years old in average). Based on the works of researchers in the area of vocational orientation and purposefulness, the questionnaire was compiled. The results revealed that socio-environment factors are important for the purposeful decision making on the vocational choice of youth in rural areas. From the view point of rural community members, the main factors are: family traditions, the profession’s prestige in society, the influence of parents, friends and important others, and family conditions. According to the opinion of senior pupils from secondary school, the important factors are: family conditions and traditions, friends and other important people, as well as profession status in the rural community. Recommendations for development of young people’s vocational purposefulness in rural areas are presented.

Qualified teachers are a fundamental input for any education system. Yet, many countries struggle to attract highly skilled applicants to the teaching profession. This paper presents the results of a large-scale intervention to attract high performing high-school students into the teaching profession in Chile. The intervention was a three-arm email campaign which made salient three types of motivations typically associated with the teaching profession: intrinsic/altruistic, extrinsic, and prestige-related. The objective was to identify which type of message better appealed to high performing students to nudge them to choose a teaching major. The “intrinsic” and “prestige” arms reduced applications to teaching majors among high performers, while the “extrinsic” arm increased applications among low performers. A plausible interpretation could be that the “intrinsic” and “prestige” messages made more salient an issue that could otherwise be overlooked by high performing students (typically from more advantaged households), negatively impacting their program choice: that while the social value of the teaching profession has improved, it still lags behind other professions that are valued more by their families and social circles. In turn, the “extrinsic” arm made salient the recent improvements in the economic conditions of the teaching profession in Chile, thus appealing to low performing students who in general come from disadvantaged families and for whom monetary incentives are potentially more relevant. These results emphasize the importance of having a clear picture of the inherent motivations that could influence individuals career choice. Making salient certain types of motivations to the wrong target group could lead to undesired results.
