Resumen
The whole world undergoes significant changes in communication, television and radio. Therefore, journalism education also alters. Television companies and radio stations hire former students, who already perceive the development of modern media in a different way, and thus try to communicate differently and influence large audiences. It is applied to all societies and countries developing their own media and caring about the future of television and radio industry. Such a new complex problem on communication via television and radio is caused primarily by the changes of information technology and communicative strategies in the field of media, online educational techniques in world schools of journalism, and is now being discussed by theorists and practitioners of journalism on various media platforms or global forums. The purpose of the article, that is based on the long-term research of scientists at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, is to set and prove the hypothesis about the future of television and radio broadcasting, in particular, those who will come to work on television or are already working, combining studying with practical activity. Within the period of 2012-2019 the authors of the article interviewed 760 students of the Institute of Journalism, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, on the basis of their statements about the choice of specialization, and collected the data on their attitude to modern media, including television and radio. As a result of the research, the authors have developed the psychotypology of students who will work for television and radio companies in Ukraine, and form the public opinion on social, sociocultural and political processes in the country. Consequently, this psychotypology (classics, jazzmen, rockers and conformists) can be used in schools of journalism in other countries as a technological approach to model the matrices of the educational process for training the TV and radio journalists.

Resumen
This essay, which is informed by the author's own practice as a playwright working in the medium of radio drama, looks at some effects of the enforced merger of radio with TV drama to create a ‘bi-media’ department at the BBC, and considers the evolution of commissioning policy since the imposition of the internal market under the Director Generalship of John Birt (from 1992 to 2000). Considering radio drama, after Adorno, as a producer in the culture industry, he suggests that the neo-conservatism of the 1980s, as described by Habermas, is a significant factor in understanding current commissioning practices and the dramaturgy of new realism in some radio drama. William Stanton is a Lecturer in Drama at Exeter University, where he teaches and researches writing for performance and intercultural performance practice through a research/practice link with the University of Santa Catarina, Florianópolis, Brazil, where he has an AHRB award for a new project in 2004. He is also a writer of fiction and plays for stage and radio. His most recent play for BBC Radio 4 was Dead Line in 2002, and his Route 23 is forthcoming.

Resumen
December 6, 2019, the second and third Hungarian satellites, SMOG-P and ATL-1 (both having been developed at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics) were launched. They both had a radio frequency spectrum analyzer on board, which was used to measure for the first time the strength of radio frequency signals radiated into space by terrestrial digital TV transmitters – that can be detected in orbit around the Earth. In this paper, we present how two- and three-dimensional radiosmog maps were created from raw data received from space. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate the process of creating these maps from the raw data collected; the analysis of the results visible in these maps is beyond the scope of the present discussion.

Resumen
In present era, there has been a change in consumer’s attitude towards lifestyle. Consumers give importance to brands to ensure better standard of living. Today consumers are not only educated but also selective while purchasing products. Everyday consumers are exposed to number of voices over the radio and TV and images in newspapers, magazines, hoardings, and websites. Therefore, every marketer tries to steal at least fraction of a person’s time to inform him/her of the amazing and different attributes of the product at hand and for this purpose marketers use celebrity endorsement as an effective marketing strategy to fit their products in the minds of consumers. The practice of celebrity endorsements has proliferated over time and perceived as a winning formula for product marketing and brand building. This paper is an effort to analyze the impact of celebrity endorsements on buying behaviour of the college students. Questionnaire survey was used to collect the data by using convenience sampling.

Resumen
The aim of this thesis is to research in the use of emerging TV white space communications, implementing a geo-location database system. For that, some research and theoretical studies related to cognitive radio and TV white space communications will be done first, focusing on current activities, standarization processes, commercial approaches and related projects. Once the background and the present TV white space communications status is analyzed, a geolocation database system will be designed and developed to prove the potential of this technology. The operation of the database system will be demonstrated through a web interface. In this way, an open and publicly accessible geo-location database system implementation and structure will be created (note that even if several database system creation initiatives are taking place, most of them are private). However, due to the lack of official regulatories, established standards, and actual transmission data (data from TV broadcasters, wireless microphones etc.), only an initial TV white space database system demo will be implemented to model the operation of the same. It will be possible to access and query this database systemthrough a simple web interface for the Oslo area. After analyzing the results of the implementation and looking to other TV white space initiatives, some considerations for future work will be concluded.

Resumen
Spectrum scarcity is an important challenge faced by high-speed wireless communications. Meanwhile, caused by current spectrum assignment policy, a large portion of spectrum is underutilized. Motivated by this, cognitive radio (CR) has emerged as one of the most promising candidate solutions to improve spectrum utilization, by allowing secondary users (SUs) to opportunistically access the temporarily unused spectrum, without introducing harmful interference to primary users. Moreover, opening of TV white space (TVWS) gives us the con dence to enable CR for TVWS spectrum. A crucial requirement in CR networks (CRNs) is wideband spectrum sensing, in which SUs should detect spectral opportunities across a wide frequency range. However, wideband spectrum sensing could lead to una ordably high sampling rates at energy-constrained SUs. Compressive sensing (CS) was developed to overcome this issue, which enables sub-Nyquist sampling by exploiting sparse property. As the spectrum utilization is low, spectral signals exhibit a natural sparsity in frequency domain, which motivates the promising application of CS in wideband CRNs. This thesis proposes several e ective algorithms for invoking CS in wideband CRNs. Speci cally, a robust compressive spectrum sensing algorithm is proposed for reducing computational complexity of signal recovery. Additionally, a low-complexity algorithm is designed, in which original signals are recovered with fewer measurements, as geolocation database is invoked to provide prior information. Moreover, security enhancement issue of CRNs is addressed by proposing a malicious user detection algorithm, in which data corrupted by malicious users are removed during the process of matrix completion (MC). One key spotlight feature of this thesis is that both real-world signals and simulated signals over TVWS are invoked for evaluating network performance. Besides invoking CS and MC to reduce energy consumption, each SU is supposed to harvest energy from radio frequency. The proposed algorithm is capable of o ering higher throughput by performing signal recovery at a remote fusion center.

Latief, Tauriq. "The design of a two-element radio interferometer using satellite TV equipment". Master's thesis, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/11427/33756.

Texto completo
Resumen
This research presents the design of a two-element radio interferometer capable of performing complex correlation. With the development of sophisticated radio astronomy instruments, particularly in South Africa, there is a need to develop an affordable educational instrument which can be used to demonstrate the fundamental concepts of radio interferometry to university students. The mass production of satellite TV equipment has resulted in relatively sensitive radio frequency (RF) equipment such as parabolic reflector dishes and low-noise block down-converters (LNBs) being available at significantly reduced costs. This served as the front-end of the interferometer which was used to observe the sun between 10.70 GHz - 12.75 GHz (RF). The LNB then down-converted these to an intermediate frequency (IF) between 0.95 GHz - 2.15 GHz. The LNBs were modified to make use of a common 25 MHz reference, which ensured that the observed fringes were only as a result of the source's geometric time delay. A power detector was also designed since the adding interferometer architecture was chosen. This power detector included the Analog Devices LT 5534 power detector integrated circuit (IC) and a Teensy 3.6 microcontroller. The calibrated power detector could detect signals as weak as - 60 dBm and showed less than 21 mV error in output for input signals in the range [- 50 dBm, -30 dBm]. The modified LNBs experienced issues, in particular the presence of a spurious LO signal, which distorted initial observations of the sun. This was resolved by the design and manufacture of narrowband hairpin filters and quarterwavelength stub filters which were used to isolate the IF band between 1.05 GHz - 1.15 GHz (corresponding RF between 10.80 GHz - 10.90 GHz). This also improved the interferometer's resolution. A series of filter-integrated Wilkinson power dividers and branchline couplers were designed to filter and further separate signals into in-phase and quadrature-phase (I-Q) components - these were required for complex correlation. The integrated quarter-wavelength stub filter and Wilkinson power divider achieved a maximum amplitude imbalance of 0.13 dB and phase imbalance of 0.9◦ between output ports. The integrated quarter-wavelength stub filter and branchline coupler achieved a maximum amplitude imbalance of 0.13 dB and phase imbalance of 91.1◦ between output ports. These results closely agreed with the simulated performance. First light was observed on the 5th December 2020 when the sun was successfully detected using the coherent two-element interferometer along a 1.1 m baseline. Other tests included using the observed fringe phase to verify the physical baseline. A theoretical baseline of 1.11 m was calculated for a physical baseline of 1.3 m indicating an error of less than 0.2 m. The sun's fringe frequency and amplitude was also observed for varying baselines - the sun was resolved along a 3 m baseline. Finally, full-system observations of the sun were conducted. These included observing the sun's cosine and sine fringes, which indicated that the analogue complex correlator was operating correctly. Thus, the primary goal of this project had been fulfilled. Specifically, developing a low-cost, educational two-element radio interferometer capable of detecting the sun.

Background: Cesarean section (CS) delivery is one of the top concerns when it comes to women in maternity age, given the fact that CS rates are on the rise globally and especially in Qatar. Many socioeconomic, demographic, clinical and institutional factors that are likely to play a role in that increase. The aim of this study is to investigate factors that may affect the CS delivery in Qatar. Objective: Identify the factors playing a major role in the increase of CS rates among women in Qatar and determine the significance of the strength of their effect on the issue. Methodology: Using Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2012. The study focused on the women’s questionnaire with a final sample of 761 women aged 19- 49 years whom have had given birth in their lifetime before the survey after applying an inclusion criteria to the 5809 women in the dataset. IBM SPSS 26 was used to perform descriptive analysis to describe our data, bivariate analysis to assess the associations between variables, multivariate analysis to adjust for external confounders within these associations, and multilevel analysis to assess the significance of variations within levels of the clustered dataset. To investigated factors of: age of women, frequency of watching TV, level of school, antenatal care by whom, assistance at delivery by whom, place of delivery, and weight of baby. Results: The study found that the odds ratio of CS for mothers less than 25 is lower by 54.4% than women 35 years and above with (p-value = 0.020; 95% CI 0.235 -0.883). Furthermore, the type professional who assisted the birth specially nurses, plays a significant role for the outcome of whether they experience CS or not; the odds ratio of that is 51.8% than any other professional with. One of the other significant associations with CS rates was the place of birth (p-value = 0.000; 95% CI 0.207- 0.634) as mothers who give birth governmental hospitals have CS rates lower by 63.8% than those who deliver in private hospitals. Conclusion: The study found a significant association between age of women, frequency of TV watching, assistance at birth, and place of birth with the outcome of the study which is undergoing CS delivery or not. These results can be used as evidence-base for further research on cesarean section delivery in Qatar.

Oza, Shardul y Jacobus Cilliers. What Did Children Do During School Closures? Insights from a Parent Survey in Tanzania. Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE), mayo de 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.35489/bsg-rise-ri_2021/027.

Texto completo
Resumen
In this Insight Note, we report results of a phone survey that the RISE Tanzania Research team conducted with 2,240 parents (or alternate primary care-givers) of primary school children following the school closures in Tanzania. After the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Tanzania on 16 March 2020, the government ordered all primary schools closed the following day. Schools remained closed until 29 June 2020. Policymakers and other education stakeholders were concerned that the closures would lead to significant learning loss if children did not receive educational support or engagement at home. To help stem learning loss, the government promoted radio, TV, and internet-based learning content to parents of school-age children. The primary aims of the survey were to understand how children and families responded to the school closures, the education related activities they engaged in, and their strategies to send children back to school. The survey also measures households’ engagement with remote learning content over the period of school closures. We supplement the findings of the parent survey with insights from interviews with Ward Education Officers about their activities during the school closures. The survey sample is comprised of primary care-givers (in most cases, parents) of students enrolled in Grades 3 and 4 during the 2020 school year. The survey builds on an existing panel of students assessed in 2019 and 2020 in a nationally representative sample of schools.4 The parent surveys were conducted using Computer Assisted Telephonic Interviewing (CATI) over a two-week period in early September 2020, roughly two months after the re-opening of primary schools. We report the following key findings from this survey: *Almost all (more than 99 percent) of children in our sample were back in school two months after schools re-opened. The vast majority of parents believed it was either safe or extremely safe for their children to return to school. *Only 6 percent of households reported that their children listened to radio lessons during the school closures; and a similar fraction (5.5 percent) tuned into TV lessons over the same period. Less than 1 percent of those surveyed accessed educational programmes on the internet. Households with access to radio or TV reported higher usage. *Approximately 1 in 3 (36 percent) children worked on the family farm during the closures, with most children working either 2 or 3 days a week. Male children were 6.2 percentage points likelier to work on the family farm than female children. *Households have limited access to education materials for their child. While more than 9 out of 10 households have an exercise book, far fewer had access to textbooks (35 percent) or own reading books (31 percent). *One in four parents (24 percent) read a book to their child in the last week.

Baloch, Imdad, Tom Kaye, Saalim Koomar y Chris McBurnie. Pakistan Topic Brief: Providing Distance Learning to Hard-to-reach Children. EdTech Hub, junio de 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.53832/edtechhub.0026.

Texto completo
Resumen
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in mass school closures across the world. It is expected that the closures in low- and -middle-income countries (LMICs) will have long-term negative consequences on education and also on broader development outcomes. Countries face a number of obstacles to effectively delivering alternative forms of education. Obstacles include limited experience in facing such challenges, limited teacher digital and pedagogical capacity, and infrastructure constraints related to power and connectivity. Furthermore, inequalities in learning outcomes are expected to widen within LMICs due to the challenges of implementing alternative modes of education in remote, rural or marginalised communities. It is expected that the most marginalised children will feel the most substantial negative impacts on their learning outcomes. Educational technology (EdTech) has been identified as a possible solution to address the acute impact of school closures through its potential to provide distance education. In this light, the DFID Pakistan team requested the EdTech Hub develop a topic brief exploring the use of EdTech to support distance learning in Pakistan. Specifically, the team requested the brief explore ways to provide distance education to children in remote rural areas and urban slums. The DFID team also requested that the EdTech Hub explore the different needs of those who have previously been to school in comparison to those who have never enrolled, with reference to EdTech solutions. In order to address these questions, this brief begins with an overview of the Pakistan education landscape. The second section of the brief explores how four modes of alternative education — TV, interactive radio instruction, mobile phones and online learning — can be used to provide alternative education to marginalised groups in Pakistan. Multimodal distance-learning approaches offer the best means of providing education to heterogeneous, hard-to-reach groups. Identifying various tools that can be deployed to meet the needs of specific population segments is an important part of developing a robust distance-learning approach. With this in mind, this section highlights examples of tools that could be used in Pakistan to support a multimodal approach that reaches the most hard-to-reach learners. The third and final section synthesises the article’s findings, presenting recommendations to inform Pakistan’s COVID-19 education response.<br> <br> This topic brief is available on Google Docs.
