This paper uses data from the Human Gene Mutation Database to contrast two hypotheses for the origin of short DNA repeats: substitutions and insertions that duplicate adjacent sequences. Because substitutions are much more common than insertions, they are the dominant source of new 2-repeat loci. Insertions are rarer, but over 70% of the 2–4 base insertion mutations are duplications of adjacent sequences, and over half of these generate new repeat regions. Insertions contribute fewer new repeat loci than substitutions, but their relative importance increases rapidly with repeat number so that all new 4–5-repeat mutations come from insertions, as do all 3-repeat mutations of tetranucleotide repeats. This suggests that the process of repeat duplication that dominates microsatellite evolution at high repeat numbers is also important very early in microsatellite evolution. This result sheds light on the puzzle of the origin of short tandem repeats. It also suggests that most short insertion mutations derive from a slippage-like process during replication.

Cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmannii) is an herbal plant that has a function, one of which is lowering glucose in the blood and warding off free radicals that cause oxidative stress. This study aims to determine the inhibitory activity of the enzyme compound α-glucosidase and the suppression of DPPH free radicals using the first, second, and third replications of cinnamon bark water extract (C. burmannii) as a natural source of antidiabetic drug candidates. The extraction method uses the infundation technique and is carried out using a spectronometer. The highest yield was obtained in the extraction of the first repeat, which is with an average of 0.674%, the yield did not differ markedly (p>0.05) with the second and third repeats. The highest results of total phenolic testing were obtained in the second repeat extraction of 100.374 GAE g-1, the results differed markedly (p<0.05) with the first and third repeats. The highest results of testing antioxidant activity were obtained at the extraction of the first repeat which was 9.012 mg of AAE g-1, the results differed markedly (p<0.05) with the second and third repeats. The highest result of testing of enzyme inhibition activity α-glucosidase was found in the extraction of the first repeat which was 99.650%, the results did not differ markedly (p>0.05) with the second and third repeats.

Abstract Transcription activator-like effectors (TALEs) are bacterial proteins with a programmable DNA-binding domain, which turned them into exceptional tools for biotechnology. TALEs contain a central array of consecutive 34 amino acid long repeats to bind DNA in a simple one-repeat-to-one-nucleotide manner. However, a few naturally occurring aberrant repeat variants break this strict binding mechanism, allowing for the recognition of an additional sequence with a −1 nucleotide frameshift. The limits and implications of this extended TALE binding mode are largely unexplored. Here, we analyse the complete diversity of natural and artificially engineered aberrant repeats for their impact on the DNA binding of TALEs. Surprisingly, TALEs with several aberrant repeats can loop out multiple repeats simultaneously without losing DNA-binding capacity. We also characterized members of the only natural TALE class harbouring two aberrant repeats and confirmed that their target is the major virulence factor OsSWEET13 from rice. In an aberrant TALE repeat, the position and nature of the amino acid sequence strongly influence its function. We explored the tolerance of TALE repeats towards alterations further and demonstrate that inserts as large as GFP can be tolerated without disrupting DNA binding. This illustrates the extraordinary DNA-binding capacity of TALEs and opens new uses in biotechnology.

ABSTRACT Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1) is a central component of Okazaki fragment maturation in eukaryotes. Genetic analysis of Saccharomyces cerevisiae FEN1 (RAD27) also reveals its important role in preventing trinucleotide repeat (TNR) expansion. In humans such expansion is associated with neurodegenerative diseases. In vitro, FEN1 can inhibit TNR expansion by employing its endonuclease activity to compete with DNA ligase I. Here we employed two yeast FEN1 nuclease mutants, rad27-G67S and rad27-G240D, to further define the mechanism by which FEN1 prevents TNR expansion. Using a yeast artificial chromosome system that can detect both TNR instability and fragility, we demonstrate that the G240D but not the G67S mutation increases both the expansion and fragility of a CTG tract in vivo. In vitro, the G240D nuclease is proficient in cleaving a fixed nonrepeat double flap; however, it exhibits severely impaired cleavage of both nonrepeat and CTG-containing equilibrating flaps. In contrast, wild-type FEN1 and the G67S mutant exhibit more efficient cleavage on an equilibrating flap than on a fixed CTG flap. The degree of TNR expansion and the amount of chromosome fragility observed in the mutant strains correlate with the severity of defective flap cleavage in vitro. We present a model to explain how flap equilibration and the unique tracking mechanism of FEN1 can collaborate to remove TNR flaps and prevent repeat expansion.

Abstract Summary We describe a novel computational method for genotyping repeats using sequence graphs. This method addresses the long-standing need to accurately genotype medically important loci containing repeats adjacent to other variants or imperfect DNA repeats such as polyalanine repeats. Here we introduce a new version of our repeat genotyping software, ExpansionHunter, that uses this method to perform targeted genotyping of a broad class of such loci. Availability and implementation ExpansionHunter is implemented in C++ and is available under the Apache License Version 2.0. The source code, documentation, and Linux/macOS binaries are available at https://github.com/Illumina/ExpansionHunter/. ABSTRACT Telomeres in the budding yeast Kluyveromyces lactisconsist of perfectly repeated 25-bp units, unlike the imprecise repeats at Saccharomyces cerevisiae telomeres and the short (6- to 8-bp) telomeric repeats found in many other eukaryotes. Telomeric DNA is synthesized by the ribonucleoprotein telomerase, which uses a portion of its RNA moiety as a template. K. lactistelomerase RNA, encoded by the TER1 gene, is ∼1.3 kb long and contains a 30-nucleotide templating domain, the largest ever examined. To examine the mechanism of polymerization by this enzyme, we identified and analyzed telomerase activity from K. lactiswhole-cell extracts. In this study, we exploited the length of the template and the precision of copying by K. lactistelomerase to examine primer elongation within one round of repeat synthesis. Under all in vitro conditions tested, K. lactistelomerase catalyzed only one round of repeat synthesis and remained bound to reaction products. We demonstrate that K. lactistelomerase polymerizes along the template in a discontinuous manner and stalls at two specific regions in the template. Increasing the amount of primer DNA-template RNA complementarity results in stalling, suggesting that the RNA-DNA hybrid is not unpaired during elongation in vitro and that lengthy duplexes hinder polymerization through particular regions of the template. We suggest that these observations provide an insight into the mechanism of telomerase and its regulation.

It is an effective means for merchants to carry out precision marketing and improve ROI by using historical user behavior data obtained from promotional activities in order to build a model to predict the repeat purchase behavior of users after promotional activities. Most of the existing prediction models are supervised learning, which does not work well with a small amount of labeled data. This paper proposes a BERT-MLP prediction model that uses “large-scale data unsupervised pre-training + small amount of labeled data fine-tuning.” The experimental results on Alibaba real dataset show that the accuracy of the BERT-MLP model is better than the baseline model.

This study aims to analyze sustainable behavior in paying alms through a digital platform. The data was collected using an online questionnaire with a sample of 50 millennial Muslims in Surabaya who had made alms payments through a digital platform. This study uses a quantitative approach and analysis using multiple linear regression. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling. The results of this study indicate that religiosity, perceived ease of use, and e-satisfaction have a positive effect on the sustainable behavior of millennial Muslims in paying alms through digital platforms. The perceived ease of use variable has a small effect on the intention of repeated donations, it is possible that this is due to the lack of internet network in the area and the insufficient balance of funds in the application. Suggestions for further research is to use a qualitative approach in order to obtain more accurate information and use other variables that are more supportive and relevant.

Research background: There are several methods to construct a price index for infrequently traded real estate assets (mainly residential, but also office and land). The main concern to construct a valid and unbiased price index is to address the problem of heterogeneity of real estate or put differently to control for both observable and unobservable quality attributes. The one most frequently used is probably the hedonic regression methodology (classic, but recently also spatial and quantile regression). An alternative approach to control for unobservable differences in assets’ quality is provided by repeat sales methodology, where price changes are tracked based on differences in prices of given asset sold twice (or multiple times) within the study period. The latter approach is applied in renown S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller house price indices. Purpose of the article: The goal of the paper is to assess the applicability of repeat sales methodology for a major housing market in Poland. Previous studies used the hedonic methodology or mix adjustment techniques, and applied for major metropolitan areas. The most widely known example is the set of quarterly house price indices constructed by NBP — especially for the primary and secondary market. The repeat sales methodology has not been adopted with significant success to date — mainly because of concern regarding relative infrequency of transactions on the housing market in most metropolitan areas (thus a potentially small sample of repeated sales). Methods: The study uses data on repeat sales of residential transactions in Krakow from 2003 to 2015. We apply different specifications of repeat sales index construction and compare respective values to the hedonic price index for Krakow estimated by NBP. Findings & Value added: Findings suggest that repeat sales house sales indices can be used to track price dynamics for major metropolitan areas in Poland. The study suggests problems that need to be addressed in order to get unbiased results — mainly data collection mechanism and estimation procedure.

The ability to attract and retain customers through providing excellent service quality is a necessity for any business in every field. However, before a firm can expect to consistently provide high quality service, it must first know how to measure and identify areas of needed improvement. While service quality research has been conducted in most of the major sectors of the economy, the residential real estate brokerage industry is only beginning to incorporate existing knowledge of service quality management. This is especially disconcerting given that real estate is such a large part of local and national economies around the world. The purpose of this thesis is to identify the best instrument that can be used to measure service quality in the residential real estate brokerage industry. The findings reveal that the reliability, responsiveness and empathy dimensions significantly lead to increases in the overall evaluation of service the firm provides. The empathy dimension also significantly causes homebuyers to recommend the firm to others. Additionally, empathy significantly causes the client to use the firm again. Finally, as hypothesized, overall satisfaction leads to both repeat uses of the firm and recommending the firm to a friend.<br>Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

This work is a study in how the design process is affected by the goal of creating refurbishable and circular design. The work has resulted in three pieces of furniture made with the possibility of renovation. This was done with the help of guidelines that could be put into place after accumulated knowledge of circular design, interviews with three companies in the Swedish furniture industry and craftsmen in carpentry, wallpaper and furniture preservation.We as designers have a responsibility for what comes out in the world and how it affects the environment, people and the future we will live in. We train ourselves to educate others with our design.

In the future, audiological rehabilitation of adults with hearing loss will be more available, personalized and thorough due to the possibilities offered by the internet. By using the internet as a platform it is also possible to perform the process of rehabilitation in a cost-effective way. With tailored online rehabilitation programs containing topics such as communication strategies, hearing tactics and how to handle hearing aids it might be possible to foster behavioral changes that will positively affect hearing aid users. Four studies were carried out in this thesis. The first study investigated internet usage among adults with hearing loss. In the second study the administration format, online vs. paper- and pencil, of four standardized questionnaires was evaluated. Finally two randomized controlled trials were performed evaluating the efficacy of online rehabilitation programs including professional guidance by an audiologist. The programs lasted over five weeks and were designed for experienced adult hearing-aid users. The effects of the online programs were compared with the effects of a control group. It can be concluded that the use of computers and the internet overall is at least at the same level for people with hearing loss as for the general age-matched population in Sweden. Furthermore, for three of the four included questionnaires, the participants’ scores remained the same across formats. It is however recommended that the administration format remain consistent across assessment points. Finally, results from the two concluding intervention studies provide preliminary evidence that the internet can be used to deliver education and rehabilitation to experienced hearing aid users who report residual hearing problems and that their problems are reduced by the intervention; however the content and design of the online rehabilitation program requires further investigation.

High Arctic ecosystems are experiencing some of the earliest and most extreme changes in climate as a result of global climate change. Temperature increases twice the hemispheric average are initiating changes to terrestrial systems including shifts in timing of phenology, aboveground biomass and community composition of Arctic vegetation. Satellite imagery from the last 30 years has shown a greening across tundra ecosystems with increases in peak productivity and growing season length. A few plot scale field studies support these large-scale trends but overall validation at the plot scale is still lacking. Current manual and automated methods for monitoring vegetation at the community and plot scale is both time consuming and employs expensive, sensitive multispectral instrumentation that can be cumbersome to use in Arctic field sites. In this thesis I examine the utility of colour digital photography in monitoring tundra vegetation across four different vegetation communities, inside and outside of passive warming chambers. Colour and infrared photos were taken on one day peak season in 2010. Relationships between a greenness index derived from colour photographs and biomass data were compared to relationships with NDVI derived from infrared photographs. Results suggest that colour photographs can be used as a proxy for productivity and aboveground biomass in multiple tundra vegetation communities. These data were then used to infer phenological signals at multiple spatial scales from a set of colour photographs taken on six days during the 2012 growing season. Results show higher greenness values due to treatment at the plot scale but not at the individual scale suggesting greater green biomass in warmed plots. At the individual scale site differences emerged for two study species (Salix arctica, Dryas integrifolia) suggesting a difference in vegetation vigor due to differences in soil moisture and perhaps competition. The phenological signal was strongest at the species scale due to reduced interference from bare soil, litter and standing water. Overall, these results show the potential for this methodology for measuring vegetation in the Arctic. Its simplicity, affordability and efficiency has great potential for use in a vegetation monitoring network in the Arctic.

International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 28-31, 1996 / Town and Country Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California<br>XRunner, a UNIX, client-server based, automated record-replay test tool developed by Mercury Interactive Corporation, was used by a project at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center to automate intensive GUI/window-driven satellite operations functions. This work was part of the Integrated Monitoring, Analysis and Control COTS System (IMACCS), a COTS integration prototype development effort. XRunner, running in its object-oriented context sensitive mode, recorded the window/push-button images of significant events in spacecraft operations with sequential steps and generated test script language (TSL) for subsequent replay or test verification. The recorded TSL was optimized such that scenario replay timing, sequencing, grouping, and UNIX interactions became simple, easily-automated tasks instead of manually intensive, error-prone operations. This feature of the XRunner tool is expected to greatly enhance operations and testing.

Resumen

Every tourist website employs images to attract potential tourists. In particular, destination tourism websites use environmental images, such as landscapes, to attract the attention of tourists and to address their purchase choice. Nowadays the effectiveness of these tools has been enhanced by the use of eye-tracking technology. That allows measuring the exact eye position during the visualization of images, texts, or other visual stimuli. Consequently, eye-tracking data can be processed to obtain quantitative measures of viewing behavior that can be analyzed for several purposes in many fields such as to cluster consumers, to improve the effectiveness of a website and for neuroscience studies. This work is aimed to use eye-tracking technology to investigate user behavior according to different types of images (e.g. natural landscapes, city landscapes). Specifically, we compare different statistical descriptive tools with supervised and unsupervised models. Furthermore, we discuss the effectiveness of their results and their capacity to provide satisfactory and interpretable solutions that can be used by decision-makers.

The size of network and internet traffic is rising spontaneously by the day, with data usage at zettabyte to petabyte scale at an exponential high rate and therefore considered to generate huge traffic along the way which causes the chance of error in transmission to be high as well. Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) protocol is an error control function for data transmission that uses acknowledgements. These protocols exist in Data link or Transport layers. ARQ is categorize into three major types such as Stop and wait, Go Bank N and Selective Repeat. Hybrid automatic repeat (HARQ) request which is an advancement to earlier mentioned protocols to detect error via cycle redundancy check was later developed. This paper evaluates the performance of these basic ARQs and HARQ protocols in consideration of the current state of high signal interference and collision during competitive accesses, more especially in highly densely networks.

Abstract The traditional Monte Carlo method uses the Constructed Solid Geometry (CSG) method to build up the geometry by creating surfaces and using Boolean operators. This method has obvious deficiencies for new type reactors with complex geometry and large size. This method has the problem of geometric overlap. Direct Acceleration Geometry Monte Carlo (DAGMC) method based on CAD geometry modeling can accurately describe higher-order surfaces, which can effectively overcomes the shortcomings of CSG modeling method and effectively build up the model. Additionally, CAD geometry has good visual effect. On the one hand, it is conducive to the verification of the correctness of the model. On the other hand, it is beneficial to the analysis of the calculation results DAG-RMC function based on Reactor Monte Carlo code RMC can directly use CAD model to carry out particle transport calculation. Based on CSG and DAGMC, this paper constructed three dimensional rod repeat structure fuel and plate type repeat structure fuel assemblies respectively and calculated keff as well as power distributions in order to verify the correctness of DAGMC in particle transport and critical calculation for complex geometry. Through comparisons, the keff and power distributions calculated by the two methods are in good agreement, verifying the correctness of DAG-RMC function.

Nuclear power plants and many other industries are required to periodically inspect their buried piping to determine its fitness-for-continued service (FFS). The FFS process requires that both the general corrosion rate and the rate of maximum penetration for localized corrosion (e.g., pitting) be estimated so that the remaining lifetime and/or time until the next inspection can be determined. Revision 1 to ASME Code Case N-806, “Evaluation of Metal Loss in Class 2 and 3 Metallic Piping Buried in a Back-Filled Trench” [1] provides 4 options for estimating the corrosion rates: a. Wall thickness measurements from the current examination and from one or more previous examinations of the same metal loss region. b. Repeat measurements at two or more times from another location that has a predicted metal loss rate greater than or equal to the rate of the metal loss region under evaluation. c. Repeat measurements using corrosion coupons, linear polarization probes, or electrical resistance probes d. Generic historical data Each of these methods has its uses and limitations, and it is generally preferable to consider results from 2 or more of the methods. This paper examines historical data gathered by the National Bureau of Standards (NBS, renamed in 1988 as the National Institute of Standards & Technology - NIST) at ∼ 70 locations around the US in the 1930s – 1950s. Maximum penetration and weight loss (general corrosion) data from each site were placed in one of four soil texture groups for both carbon steel and cast iron. A regression analysis was performed to determine the median rates and 80% and 95% probabilistic values. It was found that results within each soil texture group were relatively similar and that the corrosion rates in the first 3 years after burial tended to be much higher than rates in years 5–18. The coefficients of determination were determined to quantify differences within each soil texture group. It is proposed that the steady state rates provided herein are an option to be used as the Historical Rates for FFS evaluations as described in [1].

State-of-the-art microlithographic optical systems are normally evaluated by measuring developed photoresist patterns. Unfortunately, the highly nonlinear and variable resist characteristics complicate the quantitative evaluation of imagery with such techniques. A new approach for directly obtaining the image profile uses 0.4-µm wide slits of fluorescent material on a silicon wafer.1 These slits are accurately scanned by the interferometrically controlled stage of a step-and-repeat system as fluorescence intensity is monitored. This paper presents image profiles of 1.2- and 0.8-µm objects at various field positions and focus parameters. Lens distortion data, relative to the laser stage grid, are shown. Atmospheric pressure variations were found to cause observable changes in the best focus parameter (0.17 µm/Torr) and in the lens reduction error (1 ppm/Torr). Finally, the relative vibration between image and wafer has been measured as position vs time, in contrast to normal accelerometer techniques which lose sensitivity at low frequencies.

In the past decade, several systems for learning Answer Set Programs (ASP) have been proposed, including the recent FastLAS system. Compared to other state-of-the-art approaches to learning ASP, FastLAS is more scalable, as rather than computing the hypothesis space in full, it computes a much smaller subset relative to a given set of examples that is nonetheless guaranteed to contain an optimal solution to the task (called an OPT-sufficient subset). On the other hand, like many other Inductive Logic Programming (ILP) systems, FastLAS is designed to be run on a fixed learning task meaning that if new examples are discovered after learning, the whole process must be run again. In many real applications, data arrives in a stream. Rerunning an ILP system from scratch each time new examples arrive is inefficient. In this paper we address this problem by presenting IncrementalLAS, a system that uses a new technique, called hypothesis space expansion, to enable a FastLAS-like OPT-sufficient subset to be expanded each time new examples are discovered. We prove that this preserves FastLAS's guarantee of finding an optimal solution to the full task (including the new examples), while removing the need to repeat previous computations. Through our evaluation, we demonstrate that running IncrementalLAS on tasks updated with sequences of new examples is significantly faster than re-running FastLAS from scratch on each updated task.

Abstract One of significant challenges in the metallic additive manufacturing (AM) is the presence of many sources of uncertainty that leads to variability in microstructure and properties of AM parts. Consequently, it is extremely challenging to repeat the manufacturing of a high-quality product in mass production. A trial-and-error approach usually needs to be employed to attain a product with high quality. To achieve a comprehensive uncertainty quantification (UQ) study of AM processes, we present a physics-informed data-driven modeling framework, in which multi-level data-driven surrogate models are constructed based on extensive computational data obtained by multi-scale multi-physical AM models. It starts with computationally inexpensive metamodels, followed by experimental calibration of as-built metamodels and then efficient UQ analysis of AM process. For illustration purpose, this study specifically uses the thermal level of AM process as an example, by choosing the temperature field and melt pool as quantity of interest. We have clearly showed the surrogate modeling in the presence of high-dimensional response (e.g. temperature field) during AM process, and illustrated the parameter calibration and model correction of an as-built surrogate model for reliable uncertainty quantification. The experimental calibration especially takes advantage of the high-quality AM benchmark data from National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This study demonstrates the potential of the proposed data-driven UQ framework for efficiently investigating uncertainty propagation from process parameters to material microstructures, and then to macro-level mechanical properties through a combination of advanced AM multi-physics simulations, data-driven surrogate modeling and experimental calibration.

The article analyzes the main anti-propaganda accents in Mikhail Epstein’s essayistic argumentation about such messages of modern Russian propaganda as “Russia is threatened by an external enemy”, “Russia is a significant, powerful country”, “The collapse of the USSR was a tragedy”, “Russia is a special spiritual civilization”, “Our cause in Donbass is sacred”, “The enemy uses, or may use of illegal weapons”... A special emphasis is placed on the fact that the basis of these concepts is primarily ontological rather than ideological. Ideology is rather a cover for problematic Russian existence as a consequence of Russia’s problematic identity and for its inability to find itself in history. As a result, Russia is trying to resolve its historical issues geographically, through spatial expansion, trying to implement ideologemes such as “The Great Victory. We can repeat” or “Novorossia”. That is why M. Epstein clearly identifies the national and psychological basis of the Kremlin’s behavior in 2014-2021. М. Epstein easily refutes the main ideologemes of Russian propaganda. This gives grounds to claim that Russian political technologists use the classical principles of propaganda: ignore people who think; if the addressee is the masses, focus on a few simple points; reduce each problem to the lowest common denominator that the least educated person can repeat and remember; be guided by historical realities that appeal to well-known events and symbols and appeal to emotions, not to the mind. М. Epstein’s argumentation clearly points to another feature of modern Russian propaganda: if Soviet propaganda was concerned with the plausibility of its lies, then Kremlin propaganda does not care at all. It totally spreads lies, often ignoring even attempts to offer half-truth.

This study describes the perception, adoption, and acceptance factors involved in the deployment of digital technologies for public health in Latin America and considers the implications for future digital health interventions. We conducted a descriptive analysis using nationally representative data from a phone survey conducted in 2020 in 10 countries in Latin America. We found that early in the pandemic, in countries with existing applications, 74% of the population used a smartphone, 47% had knowledge of the government app to report symptoms, but only 2% reported using it. Those interviewed reported that they are willing to share their personal data during a pandemic (61%) 50 percentage points higher than in non-pandemic times, although understanding how their personal data was used by the government and private companies was extremely low. More than 70% reported that they would use an application to report symptoms and would use an app that accesses their location or that uses contact tracing technology to alert them about possible exposure. Also, at least half of the users agree with preventive measures against COVID-19 such as daily follow-up calls, tracking via GPS for quarantine enforcement, and daily visits. In all countries, adoption of digital technologies increases if individuals or their relatives report they are infected; it decreases when end-users do not trust the anonymity policies or are concerned about government surveillance. Yet, encouraging greater adoption of digital technologies strongly depends on who designed the technology. Results show that 73% of users would prefer an app designed by an international organization such as the WHO to an app designed by the local government (64%) or a telephone company (56%). The study concludes with a reflection on the promising results of digital technologies and discusses the importance of considering users perceptions, factors for acceptance, and trust when pursuing adoption of digital technologies.

Twenty-two teachers —both experienced and new Forms users— participated in an interview about how they used Forms in their teaching. This report provides concrete examples of teachers’ use of Forms and describes their support needs for starting to use this tool in the classroom. School leaders and instructional technology coaches can use the report to inform implementation plans and training on Microsoft Forms.

Special focus has been placed on the identification of conflicts and synergies among solutions, and their contribution to the major climate resilience and sustainability objectives defined by solar neighborhoods.

Habitat suitability models are widely adopted in ecosystem management and restoration, where these index models are used to assess environmental impacts and benefits based on the quantity and quality of a given habitat. Many spatially distributed ecological processes require application of suitability models within a geographic information system (GIS). Here, we present a geospatial toolbox for assessing habitat suitability. The Geospatial Suitability Indices (GSI) toolbox was developed in ArcGIS Pro 2.7 using the Python® 3.7 programming language and is available for use on the local desktop in the Windows 10 environment. Two main tools comprise the GSI toolbox. First, the Suitability Index Calculator tool uses thematic or continuous geospatial raster layers to calculate parameter suitability indices based on user-specified habitat relationships. Second, the Overall Suitability Index Calculator combines multiple parameter suitability indices into one overarching index using one or more options, including: arithmetic mean, weighted arithmetic mean, geometric mean, and minimum limiting factor. The resultant output is a raster layer representing habitat suitability values from 0.0 to 1.0, where zero is unsuitable habitat and one is ideal suitability. This report documents the model purpose and development as well as provides a user’s guide for the GSI toolbox.

Resumen

This report shows, that the impact of a good User Interfaces (UI) is not only affecting the usability and comfort for the user, but is also a major key to save energy. At least as important for effectiveness to the quality of individual interfaces is consistency in the meaning of individual user interface elements (visual, conceptual, auditory, etc.)
