In this article, the notion of the secular is defended as a meaningful and relevant concept in order to determine the role of theological reasoning in the public sphere. For this purpose, in the first section, it is shown that John Duns Scotus already developed a provisional account of the secular and, moreover, provided it with a theological justification. Classical Cepheids are pulsating supergiants in the main instability strip. In the course of evolution, they move across theinstability strip, and their periods vary. Studying their period variations for a time span of several decades, it is possible todetermine the rate of secular period increase or decrease, identify the number of instability strip crossing, and thus improvethe period–luminosity relation. The most reliable method for estimating the rate of mass-loss by the Wolf–Rayet stars wind is based on the assessment of secular variations in the orbital periods for close binary systems containing such stars, most often WR+OB systems. Previously, almost only photometric observations of well-studied eclipsing close WR+OB binaries were used for these purposes. The work is devoted to the development of efficient parallel algorithms for the computation of large-scale basins of attraction. Since the required computational resources increase exponentially with the dimension of a dynamical system, it is common to get into memory saturation or in a secular elaboration time. This paper presents a code, based on a cell mapping method, that evaluates basins of attraction for high-dimensional systems by exploiting the parallel programming.
