This case study of a 7200 ha. urban watershed illustrates the challenges involved in using sediment quality surveys to determine pollutant sources and trends. Trace metal and chlorinated hydrocarbon analyses were performed on sediment samples obtained from 33 stream, 24 street, and 1 lake (sediment core) locations. The stream and street sediment survey was initially conducted in 1973 and repeated in 1993. Consistent results across all sediment media indicate significant reductions in Pb, PCB, and DDT levels have occurred since the 1970's as a result of source controls. While streambed results

Established techniques for the determination of heavy metal levels in urban dusts have been reviewed, and appropriate methods selected for use in the research project. Ephemeral stream channels may be modified considerably by aggradation, degradation or lateral migration. Computer programs utilizing a variety of sediment-discharge equations have been developed to predict these changes. The equation of Laursen was examined in this study. Suspended and bed load samples were collected from the Santa Cruz River during 12 flow events. Sediment compositions from the dry wash were used in the Laursen equation to predict that data. Abstract In Romania, in the last decades, was not realized any complex plan of management concerning the environmental rehabilitation of the natural riverbeds, even if there are even in present many places confronted with repeated floods. After the floods from 2004, 2005 and 2014 have been recorded in some places large deposits of sediments or contrary, in other zones with erosion and uncontrolled coastal slides.
