The article focuses on the transformation of the figurative system of a lyrical poem in translations. The comparative analysis of the Poem №5 by Catullus and its translations into English (R.F. Burton, 1894 and D. Godwin, 1999) and Russian (A.A. Fet, 1850, S.V. Shervinsky, 1963 and M.A. Amelin, 2008) allows us to identify the opportunities and limitations associated with the linguistic picture of the world, as well as individual translation strategies that are the subject of the research.
