Texto completoWaste regulations are increasing and companies must find solutions to reduce their ecological footprints while maintaining their market positions. One solution is to apply circular models that closes material loops and reuses old components and materials in new products. This study examines how to increase the resource efficiency of appliances in Swedish homes. The study is made through a literature review in which the concept circular economy is defined and then a research on how appliances are handled after the consumption phase. Then the study analyses two companies (Xerox and Inrego), how they have implemented effective models that increases the circularity of their own products. Then the study discusses whether these can be applied to appliances.The results indicate that the waste management of used appliances in Sweden contributes to a circular model since the products are being recycled. However, there are opportunities to increase the resource efficiency by introducing reuse in the process. To increase circularity, the products must be reused after the consumption phase. Recycling cannot be the primary method to reintroduce materials in the cycle and directives from governments needs to become clearer to emphasize reuse instead of recycling. The study shows that Xerox leasing model is more resource efficient than Inregos model since the producer has the ability to control the volume of products available on the market, while ensuring that the product is returned to the manufacturer. However, Xerox model could be difficult to implement since consumer are used to buying their products. Xerox model is an optimized circular model while Inregos model closes the loop of linear companies and make them circular. Both models contribute to increased resource efficiency.

Texto completoDomestic science is an interdisciplinary subject. Furthermore domestic science is a combination of theory and practice. The basic competence, a recommendation from ‘The Swedish School Institution’ (Skolverket), is to enter the secondary school with minimum grade G, (godkänd) in the basic themes: Swedish, English and Mathematic. Today there are many pupils finishing their secondary school without grade in one or more basic themes; Swedish, English and Mathematic. The aim of this essay is to show if domestic science could be used as a complement to the basic themes which are suppose to help the pupils to get grades in the basic themes of Swedish, English and Mathematics. A question in the essay is; is it possible to combine theory and practice? The theoretical frame of this essay is constituted by the pedagogies of activities and work. The sources for research of this essay have been the course plan of ‘The Swedish School Institution’ (Skolverket). Comparisons have been made between the basic grades; domestic science and basic themes of Swedish, English and Mathematics. The results indicate that there is a possibility to build bridges between the basic themes and domestic science. Through the use of pedagogies of activities and work, letting the experience fortify knowledge and showing the connection between knowledge and action, will present new ways to inspire the curiosity and creativity of the pupils.
Hem- och konsumentkunskap är ett tvärvetenskapligt ämne, här kombineras teori och praktik i ett ämne. Många beröringspunkter bör finnas till andra skolämnen. Grundbehörigheten till gymnasiet är att ha godkänt i kärnämnena; svenska, matematik och engelska. Många ungdomar som slutar nian saknar betyg i ett eller flera kärnämnen. Går det att använda hemkunskapen som ett stödämne till kärnämnena? Syftet med denna uppsats är att se hur hem- och konsumentkunskapen kan användas som stödämne i skolans undervisning för kärnämnena, svenska, matematik och engelska. Den teoretiska ramen utgörs av aktivitets- och arbetspedagogik. Materialet har varit bl a Skolverkets kursplaner. Jämförelser har gjorts mellan uppnåendemålen i svenska, engelska och matematik med utgångspunkt i hem- och konsumentkunskap. Resultatet visar att det finns många utgångspunkter där det går att bygga broar mellan kärnämnena och hem- och konsumentkunskapen. Genom att använda aktivitets-och arbetspedagogik och låta upplevelsen befästa kunskapen och visa sambanden mellan kunskap och handling prövas nya vägar att nå elevernas inneboende nyfikenhet och kreativitet.

Texto completoAbstract "Welcome home again" – a study of immigrant women’s identity changes in the Swedish society. In our research, we intend to highlight the identity formations and changes of young immigrant women. These young women live under the influence of two cultures where their belonging to their “origin” is often determined by an essentialist approach, which indicates that it is defined by a common origin and a specific cultural belonging. Yet, the women in our study suggest that their identity is shaped according to a constructionist approach, where the cultural identity is not determined by a common belonging; instead, their identity tend to change as it is constantly reconstructed in accordance with their (social) condition. We have made a selection, where we have chosen active women that have worked hard to integrate in the Swedish society, rather than the "traditional housewife". The purpose of our study is to explore, and thus understand, how these women perceive themselves, how the society perceives their identity, and how their identity changes. We have decided to proceed from different theoretical starting-points, such as integration, identity, cultural identity, dual identities, prejudices, inclusion and exclusion, that will be applied in our analysis of the interviews. By applying a qualitative method, our intention is to answer the following research questions: How do these women perceive their own identity? How do people in their surroundings perceive their identity, according to the women themselves? How does the identity change in different contexts? Do the women feel integrated in the Swedish society or do they feel excluded? What are the advantages and disadvantages of having dual identities and a single identity? Key words: first-generation immigrants, integration, identity, cultural identity, dual identities, prejudices, inclusion and exclusion.

Texto completoBackground Students with reading difficulties have the right to an adapted learning environment to develop based on their own conditions, so that they can achieve their goals in all subjects. The textbook “Hem- och konsumentkunskap åk 7-9” (translated: Home- and consumer studies, grades 7-9), is available as audiobook, but since it is difficult to have a computer in a kitchen, students with reading difficulties usually ask a classmate to read the recipe out loud. Objective With this observational study, the purpose was to see if pupils can read and interpret the recipes in the textbook, and to find out what other difficulties the pupils have with the recipes. Method An observational study of pupils with diagnosed reading difficulties and / or Swedish as a second language. The observations have included photography and notes and have consisted of a theoretical part, where the pupils read a recipe and underlined things they thought were difficult to understand, and a practical part, where the pupil performed an task from the recipe. A practical task could be to boil and simmer. After data collection, the observations and photographs as well as the notes were analyzed. Results The pupils had difficulties with certain words and concepts, but also with moving their gaze from the list of ingredients to the instructional text. This had consequences for the practical task. Conclusion The textbook “Hem- och konsumentkunskap åk 7-9”, was written for pupils who have normal, age-appropriate literacy. As the book was designed, it was not suitable for pupils with reading difficulties of various kinds, and everyone could not understand and interpret the recipes as intended. A new and simplified teaching material needs to be developed. Based on the results of our study, we plan to write a cookbook with writing, pictures and digital material that will make it easier for the pupils when they have practical work.
