The new chiral diphosphine 2 was synthesized from mucochloric acid. The structure of the NiI2-complex 7 was determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. 7 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group P212121. The lattice constants (at 180 K) are: a = 914.1(2); b = 1422.0(3); c = 4112.5(10) pm.

Two routes to the title compounds are evaluated. First, a ca. 0.01 M CH2Cl2 solution of H3B·P((CH2)6CH=CH2)3 (1·BH3) is treated with 5 mol % of Grubbs' first generation catalyst (0 °C to reflux), followed by H2 (5 bar) and Wilkinson's catalyst (55 °C). Resumen
The chiral diphosphine 1 reacts with [(diolefin)Rh(THF)2]PF6 (diolefine: 1.5-cyclooctadiene, norbornadiene) to form the complexes 4 and 5. The structure of 4 was determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. 4 crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21. The lattice constants (at 180 K) are: a = 974.0(6); b = 3889.2(29); c = 1309.4(5) pm; β = 105.25(4)°. The hydrogenation of methyl-α-acetamidocinnamate in the presence of 5 yields (R)-N-acetylphenylalanine methyl ester with 33% enantiomeric excess.

In the title compound, [Cu(C4H12P2S2)2]BF4, both diphosphine disulfide molecules bind to the CuIatom, as chelating ligandsviathe S atoms, forming a monovalent cation with a slightly distorted tetrahedral coordination around the CuIatom. The average Cu—S distance is 2.350 (15) Å, with small but possibly significant differences within each chelate ring. AbstractThe bis(γ-alkoxypropyl)phosphines RP(CH2CH2OR′)2 1-4 were prepared by the reaction of RPLi2 (generated by lithiation of RPH2 with n-BuLi) with ClCH2CH2OR′. Deprotonation of the alkyl group R of RPH2 by n-BuLi and other side reactions leading preferably to diphosphines of the formula R [R′O(CH2)2]PP[(CH2)2OR′]R are responsible for the low yields of 1-4.
