The historiographical analysis shows that Babad Pasir and Babad Banyumas have two dominant elements, i.e. genealogy and narrative units. Both have genealogy covering (1) the ancestral genealogy, (2) the main genealogy, (3) the descendant genealogy, and (4) the branch genealogy, as the narrative units tend to dominantly reflect the relation of patron-client and the legitimation of the clan.

Although the unabashedly subjective viewpoint of history in the pesharim strongly contrasts modern notions of historiography, they nevertheless present a kind of history writing. Historiography has long been concerned with the problem of determining standards for evidence. For traditional Chinese historians, it was Confucius who provided the model for historical writing. As the attributed author of the Springs and Autumns, Confucius demonstrated qualities of narratival restraint, historical factuality, moral profundity, and a refusal to engage in idle speculation. Of course, his model was not an easy one to emulate, and later historical writings have drawn on both the factual records of the imperial court (which were not always factual or free of ideological interests)

AbstractThis chapter provides an overview of the development of “New military history,” a general term for the broadening – in subject, approaches and methods – of the traditional, narrow operational military historiography. It first deals with the influence of the social, cultural, gender, and global “turns” in general historiography on military historiography. Next, the benefits and possibilities of these new perspectives in military historiography are analyzed, followed by the risks and potential dangers. Finally, the question of what the core of military history should be is discussed and an attempt is made to describe a “comprehensive approach” to analyze military action taken in the past, with a multifaceted “plan of attack” with several possible “axes of attack.” “New” military historians who use a comprehensive approach are best placed to explain how the course of military action has influenced the general course of history and thereby can make a full-fledged contribution to general historiography. This unique quality also gives them the ability and the right to participate in or even initiate broader academic debates.

In Ottoman music culture, song text collections (güfte mecmūʿaları) play a crucial role in transmitting vocal repertoire. They employ paratext which supplies information about modal and rhythmic organisation as well as genre, composer and author attribution. In combination with oral tradition continuing until the present day, this method was understood as sufficient in the prevalent absence of notation until roughly the mid-19th century.
