Resumen

Eco-Translatology, a new eco-translation paradigm, is put forward by Chinese Professor Gengshen Hu and has been gaining popularity in recent years. Guided by the eco-translatology theory, the study analyzes the adaptive strategies that translators used in the English subtitle of Lost in Russia from the following dimensions: language, culture and communication. And the analysis sheds some light on subtitle translation and helps subtitle translators better apply eco-translatology to produce a well-received English version.

Der vorliegende Beitrag widmet sich der vergleichenden Untersuchung von Resultativkonstruktionen im Deutschen und Ungarischen. Vordergründiges Ziel der Studie ist die kontrastive Analyse der motivierenden Rolle von Bildschemata, wobei interlinguale Unterschiede und Ähnlichkeiten in ihren Erscheinungsformen herausgestellt werden. Die Ergebnisse der kontrastiven Analyse werden in einer tabellarischen Übersicht präsentiert. This article is a synthesis of three texts that explicate their author’s views on the topic of translatology in its reference to linguistics (language studies), metalinguistics, applied linguistics, glottodidactics (foreign language learning and teaching), as well as many related issues. The first part of the article forms an introduction to the two other texts dating back to the early 1980s; the latter two illustrate the outline of the author’s thought on the research problems mentioned above. This introduction is necessary to situate the contemporary readers’ reception of the latter two texts and to unveil the innovative nature of the analyses they contain when seen from the developmental angle. Even more intriguing are those remarks that disclose the gradual evolution of the author’s views on the topics under analysis. The reader will also find the author’s detailed recommendations on the potential fields of further research worthy of interest to young generations of language researchers and practitioners in the domains of language teaching and translation/interpreting, as well as other experts in professional communication. Undeniably, it would behoove that wide group of readers needs to add this text to their short list of reads.

Resumen

The following text concentrates on the presence of the translator, who plays a multitude of roles in the life of translatology, e.g. “transparent glass” or “efficient interface,” depending on the perspective. The translator, currently seen as an object of analysis by theorists of translation, is treated as a person entitled to make decisions, conscious decisions, and who becomes a source whose translation may be interpreted. Due to the inevitability of the translator’s presence in the translated text, it is worth looking at the source text through the translator’s eyes and analyzing his or her decisions. The theoretical background of this article is Langacker’s model pertaining to the choice of linguistic means that convey the language-user’s intentions best; Lakoff’s theory of metaphors; and George Lüdi’s theory of marks left by the translator in the translated text. The analyzed texts have been taken from the different translations of the Bible such as: the Jakub Wujek Bible, New International Version, and the Millennium Bible. The analysis proves that the translator as a subject is a source of research whose direction has changed in the recent years.

Due to the fact that hermeneutical approaches have widely been ignored or falsely understood as missing the scientific requirements in Translation Studies, this article wants to demonstrate how Translational Hermeneutics as an approach based on grounded understanding is crucial and endorses various other approaches in the research of translation. Explaining the scholarly perspective here as an individual worldview, the external opinions can be defeated. Concepts like subjectivity, intuition, sense of the text to be understood, and ever unfinished time-sensitive translations within a cultural context are discussed. Various aspects of understanding and formulation come together in the translator’s dynamic competence. Translational Hermeneutics links up with linguistic theories such as text-linguistics, semantics, rhetoric, the sociological systems theory, cognition research, and empirical methods of inquiring into the translator’s thinking. It connects less to corpus studies or language-based inter-lingual transfer and the technology-based process analyses. Didactics based on an hermeneutical approach may strengthen the translator’s self-confidence by preparing the background of understanding.
