Resumen
Several Canadian wood truss manufacturers expressed a need to develop technical information to initiate the fabrication and acceptance of wood trusses made with glued-laminated timber (glulam) members and connected by punched metal plates. In collaboration with industrial participants, Forintek Canada Corp. developed a program for testing and analysis of metal plated glulam trusses. Twelve 3/12 pitched chord trusses and three parallel chord trusses, all 13.7 m long, were designed by three different plate manufacturers. All truss fabrication took place at a single truss manufacturing plant. Tru

It has been recently advocated that a practical static design of hollow structural section (HSS) Warren and Pratt trusses, having either gapped or overlapped connections, can be performed on the basis of a force distribution obtained from an elastic analysis of the truss with either all the members pin-jointed or the web members pin-jointed to continuous chord members. However, at the service load level, gap-connected truss deflections have been previously underestimated by around 12%–15%. Steel trusses are the most popular system for supporting long-span roofs in commercial buildings, such as warehouses and aircraft hangars. There are several advantages of steel trusses, such as lightweight, ease of handling and erection, and geometric flexibility. However, they have some drawbacks, such as high material and maintenance cost, and low fire resistance. In this paper, a precast concrete truss is proposed as an alternative to steel trusses for spans up to 48 m (160 ft) without intermediate supports. The proposed design is easy to produce and has lower construction and maintenance c

This work builds on the trivial observation that everyone is not trusted equally. One’s gender, ethnic group, occupation etc. will affect how one’s information is believed and interpreted by others. We begin by reviewing past approaches to reliability and epistemic injustice, and the factors which affect how one’s reliability is evaluated by others in discourse. We then discuss recent experimental results which show that the linguistic manipulation of gender seems to affect the strategies with which the source’s reliability is evaluated. We argue that masculine sources benefit from more charit

Resumen
This paper presents a system-level architecture and signaling procedures of the system enabling trusted testing of telecommunication networks utilizing probes. The described system relies on the ongoing work of Study Group 11 at the International Telecommunication Union. The paper also includes testing profiles description, results storing, and users’ access to the results. In a nutshell the considered approach allows for the testing system to operate as a “black box” recording all required network events on the user side. The results of such testing can be further used for resolving disputes

This study proposes trusted measurement and evaluation models for intelligent transportation system products to provide technological means for the transport sector and government departments to detect the compliance and availability of intelligent transportation system products and consider the market access of intelligent transportation system products. Then, this study builds a trusted testing platform based on a hardware-in-loop system to test and validate trusted measurement and evaluation models of intelligent transportation system products. Finally, a traffic signal controller is tested

SUMMARYDespite national guidance recommending testing and vaccination of household contacts of hepatitis B-infected pregnant women, provision and uptake of this is sub-optimal. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of in-home dried blood spot (DBS) testing to increase testing and vaccination of household contacts of hepatitis B-infected pregnant women as an alternative approach to conventional primary-care follow-up. The study was conducted across two London maternity trusts (North Middlesex and Newham). All hepatitis B surface antigen-positive pregnant women identified through these t

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the performance of 191 equity unit trusts in an emerging market, South Africa over the period from February 2006 to January 2016, which captures different market conditions (pre-global financial crisis, crisis and recovery periods). Besides testing for managerial ability, both cross-sectional regression and the non-parametric rank correlation test are used to test whether the performance generated by unit trusts does persist. ObjectiveTo document UK rates of exercise treadmill testing, functional stress testing and CT coronary angiography (CTCA). Specific aims were to determine how rates have changed in the context of changing guideline recommendations within the UK and to identify regional inequalities in the utilisation of testing modalities. Secondary objectives were to compare these trends with national data on revascularisation.Methods159 acute National Health Service trusts were served Freedom of Information (FOI) requests to provide total numbers of CTCA and functional imaging tests for each financial year f

ObjectivesRecent guidance recommended use of high-sensitivity troponin for rapid rule out of myocardial infarction (MI) in the English health service. We aimed to determine the extent of implementation of this guidance across English hospitals.MethodsThis study conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire survey of 131 English acute hospitals with over 10 000 admissions per year.ResultsWe received 125/131 responses (95%), with 110/125 (88%) reporting use of a high-sensitivity troponin assay and responses showing progressive implementation over the last 10 years. The State Loop 481 steel truss bridge over the Llano River in Junction, Texas, is classified as a historic structure. The bridge is approximately 1,423 ft long and has a railing that attaches directly to the steel truss members and does not meet the current AASHTO Test Level 2 (TL-2) strength requirements. Many supporting truss members were not adequate to resist TL-2 crash force. The purpose of this research was to design a crashworthy retrofit bridge rail that met the current AASHTO TL-2 strength requirements without overstressing the supporting truss members. The new design maintains the hi

This paper outlines the testing and monitoring procedure of a scale model Warren truss constructed of 2 inch × 4 inch (38 mm × 89 mm) members and bolted connections within a laboratory environment. Several forms of deflection monitoring and strain monitoring instrumentation were utilized throughout this laboratory testing phase of a longer-term research program. Instruments included: an automatic total station, linear variable differential transducers, light detection and ranging, electric strain gauges, and distributed optical fibre sensors. The distributed point load-testing regime included
