Resumen
In the case of many complex, real-world decision problems solved with the participation of a group of experts, it is important to capture the uncertainty of opinions and preferences expressed. In such situations, one can use many modifications of the technique for order preference by similarity to the ideal solution (TOPSIS) method, for example, based on fuzzy numbers. In fuzzy TOPSIS, two aggregation methods of fuzzy expert opinions dominate, the first based on the average value technique and the second one extended by the minimum and maximum functions for determining the support of the aggregated fuzzy number. An important disadvantage of both techniques is the fact that the agreement degree of expert opinions is not taken into account. This article proposes the inclusion of the modified procedure for aggregating individual expert opinions, taking into account the degree of agreement of their opinions (called the similarity aggregation method—SAM) and the ranking of experts into the fuzzy TOPSIS method. The fuzzy TOPSIS method extended in this way was used to solve the decision problem of recruiting employees by a group of experts. As part of the solution, the modified SAM was compared with aggregation procedures based on the average value and min-max (minimum and maximum) support. The results of the conducted research indicate that SAM allows fuzzy numbers to be obtained, characterized by less imprecision and greater stability than the other two considered aggregation procedures.

Resumen
Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) need to be more secure while transmitting data as well as should be deployed properly to reduce redundancy and energy consumption. WSNs suffer from many constraints, including low computation capability, small memory, limited energy resources, susceptibility to physical capture and the use of insecure wireless communication channels. These constraints make security in WSNs a challenge. In this paper, a survey of security issues in WSNs is presented and a new algorithm TESDA is proposed, which is an optimized energy efficient secured data aggregation technic. The cluster head is rotated based on residual energy after each round of aggregation so that network lifetime increases. Based on deviation factor calculated, the trust weight is assigned, if more deviation, then the trust value is less. Simulation results observed by using NS-2. From network animator and x-graphs the result are analyzed. Among all protocols tesda is an energy efficient secured data aggregation method.

Resumen
Although most traffic management centers collect intelligent transportation system (ITS) traffic monitoring data from local controllers in 20-s to 30-s intervals, the time intervals for archiving data vary considerably from 1 to 5, 15, or even 60 min. Presented are two statistical techniques that can be used to determine optimal aggregation levels for archiving ITS traffic monitoring data: the cross-validated mean square error and the F-statistic algorithm. Both techniques seek to determine the minimal sufficient statistics necessary to capture the full information contained within a traffic parameter distribution. The statistical techniques were applied to 20-s speed data archived by the TransGuide center in San Antonio, Texas. The optimal aggregation levels obtained by using the two algorithms produced reasonable and intuitive results—both techniques calculated optimal aggregation levels of 60 min or more during periods of low traffic variability. Similarly, both techniques calculated optimal aggregation levels of 1 min or less during periods of high traffic variability (e.g., congestion). A distinction is made between conclusions about the statistical techniques and how the techniques can or should be applied to ITS data archiving. Although the statistical techniques described may not be disputed, there is a wide range of possible aggregation solutions based on these statistical techniques. Ultimately, the aggregation solutions may be driven by nonstatistical parameters such as cost (e.g., “How much do we/the market value the data?”), ease of implementation, system requirements, and other constraints.

Resumen
This paper focuses on multi-attribute group decision-making (MAGDM) course in which attributes are evaluated in terms of interval-valued intuitionistic fuzzy (IVIF) information. More explicitly, this paper introduces new aggregation operators for IVIF information and further proposes a new IVIF MAGDM method. The power average (PA) operator and the Muirhead mean (MM) are two powerful and effective information aggregation technologies. The most attractive advantage of the PA operator is its power to combat the adverse effects of ultra-evaluation values on the information aggregation results. The prominent characteristic of the MM operator is that it is flexible to capture the interrelationship among any numbers of arguments, making it more powerful than Bonferroni mean (BM), Heronian mean (HM), and Maclaurin symmetric mean (MSM). To absorb the virtues of both PA and MM, it is necessary to combine them to aggregate IVIF information and propose IVIF power Muirhead mean (IVIFPMM) operator and the IVIF weighted power Muirhead mean (IVIFWPMM) operator. We investigate their properties to show the strongness and flexibility. Furthermore, a novel approach to MAGDM problems with IVIF decision-making information is introduced. Finally, a numerical example is provided to show the performance of the proposed method.

Resumen
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop some 2-tuple linguistic aggregation operators based on Muirhead mean (MM), which is combined with multiple attribute group decision making (MAGDM) and applied the proposed MAGDM model for supplier selection under 2-tuple linguistic environment. Design/methodology/approach – The supplier selection problem can be regarded as a typical MAGDM problem, in which the decision information should be aggregated. In this paper, the authors investigate the MAGDM problems with 2-tuple linguistic information based on traditional MM operator. The MM operator is a well-known mean type aggregation operator, which has some particular advantages for aggregating multi-dimension arguments. The prominent characteristic of the MM operator is that it can capture the whole interrelationship among the multi-input arguments. Motivated by this idea, in this paper, the authors develop the 2-tuple linguistic Muirhead mean (2TLMM) operator and the 2-tuple linguistic dual Muirhead mean (2TLDMM) operator for aggregating the 2-tuple linguistic information, respectively. Some desirable properties and special cases are discussed in detail. Based on which, two approaches to deal with MAGDM problems under 2-tuple linguistic information environment are developed. Finally, a numerical example concerns the supplier selection problem is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods. Findings – The results show that the proposed can solve the MAGDM problems within the context of 2-tuple linguistic information, in which the attributes are existing interaction phenomenon. Some 2-tuple aggregation operators based on MM have been developed. A case study of supplier selection is provided to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed methods. The results show that the proposed methods are useful to aggregate the linguistic decision information in which the attributes are not independent so as to select the most suitable supplier. Practical implications – The proposed methods can solve the 2-tuple linguistic MAGDM problem, in which the interactions exist among the attributes. Therefore, it can be used to supplier selection problems and other similar management decision problems. Originality/value – The paper develop some 2-tuple aggregation operators based on MM, and further present two methods based on the proposed operators for solving MAGDM problems. It is useful to deal with multiple attribute interaction decision-making problems and suitable to solve a variety of management decision-making applications.

Resumen
Patent aggregating companies are institutions that aggregate patents for different purposes. From a managerial perspective as well as a theoretical perspective, it is interesting to understand what value such novel business models provide to inventing companies. In this paper we focus on the question how patent holders can use patent aggregating companies as means to capture value from their inventions. Therefore the business models of patent aggregating companies need to be understood. Existing literature lacks a systematic and comprehensive analysis of the patent aggregating companies' business models. The empirical data presented and discussed in this article was collected over a five-year (2009–2014) period in semi-structured interviews with patent aggregating companies' incorporating personnel and in an extensive analysis of secondary data. We conclude our study by identifying four groups of patent aggregating companies based on the values provided to the original patent holders: the guarders, the shielders, the funders and the earners.

Resumen
Purpose Ensuring quality is one of the most significant challenges in microtask crowdsourcing tasks. Aggregation of the collected data from the crowd is one of the important steps to infer the correct answer, but the existing study seems to be limited to the single-step task. This study aims to look at multiple-step classification tasks and understand aggregation in such cases; hence, it is useful for assessing the classification quality. Design/methodology/approach The authors present a model to capture the information of the workflow, questions and answers for both single- and multiple-question classification tasks. They propose an adapted approach on top of the classic approach so that the model can handle tasks with several multiple-choice questions in general instead of a specific domain or any specific hierarchical classifications. They evaluate their approach with three representative tasks from existing citizen science projects in which they have the gold standard created by experts. Findings The results show that the approach can provide significant improvements to the overall classification accuracy. The authors’ analysis also demonstrates that all algorithms can achieve higher accuracy for the volunteer- versus paid-generated data sets for the same task. Furthermore, the authors observed interesting patterns in the relationship between the performance of different algorithms and workflow-specific factors including the number of steps and the number of available options in each step. Originality/value Due to the nature of crowdsourcing, aggregating the collected data is an important process to understand the quality of crowdsourcing results. Different inference algorithms have been studied for simple microtasks consisting of single questions with two or more answers. However, as classification tasks typically contain many questions, the proposed method can be applied to a wide range of tasks including both single- and multiple-question classification tasks.

Resumen
In this study, we analyze the risk of extreme value dependence in Chinese regional carbon emission markets. After filtering the daily return data of six carbon markets in China using a generalized autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (GARCH) model, we obtain the standardized residual series. Next, the dependence structures in the markets are captured by the Copula function and the Extreme Value theory (EVT). We report high peaks, heavy tails and fluctuation aggregation in the logarithm return series of the markets, as well as significant dependent structures. There are significant extreme value risks in Chinese regional carbon markets, but the risks can be mitigated through appropriate portfolio diversification.

Resumen
Abstract Transcriptome-wide association study (TWAS) is an important integrative method for identifying genes that are causally associated with phenotypes. A key step of TWAS involves the construction of expression prediction models for every gene in turn using its cis-SNPs as predictors. Different TWAS methods rely on different models for gene expression prediction, and each such model makes a distinct modeling assumption that is often suitable for a particular genetic architecture underlying expression. However, the genetic architectures underlying gene expression vary across genes throughout the transcriptome. Consequently, different TWAS methods may be beneficial in detecting genes with distinct genetic architectures. Here, we develop a new method, HMAT, which aggregates TWAS association evidence obtained across multiple gene expression prediction models by leveraging the harmonic mean P-value combination strategy. Because each expression prediction model is suited to capture a particular genetic architecture, aggregating TWAS associations across prediction models as in HMAT improves accurate expression prediction and enables subsequent powerful TWAS analysis across the transcriptome. A key feature of HMAT is its ability to accommodate the correlations among different TWAS test statistics and produce calibrated P-values after aggregation. Through numerical simulations, we illustrated the advantage of HMAT over commonly used TWAS methods as well as ad hoc P-value combination rules such as Fisher’s method. We also applied HMAT to analyze summary statistics of nine common diseases. In the real data applications, HMAT was on average 30.6% more powerful compared to the next best method, detecting many new disease-associated genes that were otherwise not identified by existing TWAS approaches. In conclusion, HMAT represents a flexible and powerful TWAS method that enjoys robust performance across a range of genetic architectures underlying gene expression.

Resumen
The Maclaurin symmetric mean (MSM) operator is a classical mean type aggregation operator used in modern information fusion theory, which is suitable to aggregate numerical values. The prominent characteristic of the MSM operator is that it can capture the interrelationship among multi-input arguments. Motivated by the ideal characteristic of the MSM operator, in this paper, we expand the MSM operator, generalized MSM (GMSM), and dual MSM (DMSM) operator with interval-valued 2-tuple linguistic Pythagorean fuzzy numbers (IV2TLPFNs) to propose the interval-valued 2-tuple linguistic Pythagorean fuzzy MSM (IV2TLPFMSM) operator, interval-valued 2-tuple linguistic Pythagorean fuzzy weighted MSM (IV2TLPFWMSM) operator, interval-valued 2-tuple linguistic Pythagorean fuzzy GMSM (IN2TLPFGMSM) operator, interval-valued 2-tuple linguistic Pythagorean fuzzy weighted GMSM (IV2TLPFWGMSM) operator, interval-valued 2-tuple linguistic Pythagorean fuzzy DMSM (IN2TLPFDMSM) operator, Interval-valued 2-tuple linguistic Pythagorean fuzzy weighted DMSM (IV2TLPFWDMSM) operator. Then the multiple attribute decision making (MADM) methods are developed with these three operators. Finally, an example of green supplier selection is used to show the proposed methods.

Resumen
This thesis examines the value creation process and how companies can capture value that they created. It particularly analyses the opportunities a company has to capture value from an innovation. The ability to monetise innovations is crucial for companies and determines whether they can establish a sustainable business. This thesis first discusses previous research and connects theories to broaden and enhance their applicability. The main part is a case study on Uber, a ride-hailing company. In the case study, the company is thoroughly examined and theories which were discussed before are applied in order to expose how Uber creates and captures value. This thesis further highlights the importance of network effects in a competitive environment within the sharing economy. Although value creation and value capturing has extensively been discussed in prior research, this thesis contributes by applying traditional and recent theories to a rising startup that has received unprecedented funding from its investors. Understanding how Uber pursues its way to the top and how it captures value provides vital implications for other similar startups and helps them in their efforts to succeed. This thesis finds that Uber needs to focus on three aspects. Firstly, it needs to diversify its portfolio and offer more services. Secondly, it needs to develop a system that prevents drivers from using competing apps, which would realise network effects that lower prices and enable faster pickups. Thirdly, it needs to further innovate, especially in the field of autonomous driving.

Resumen
The doctrinal paradox shows that aggregating individual judgments by taking a majority vote does not always yield a consistent set of collective judgments. Philip Pettit, Luc Bovens, and Wlodek Rabinowicz have recently argued for the epistemic superiority of an aggregation procedure that always yields a consistent set of judgments. This paper identifies several additional epistemic advantages of their consistency maintaining procedure. However, this paper also shows that there are some circumstances where the majority vote procedure is epistemically superior. The epistemic value of maintaining consistency does not always outweigh the epistemic value of making true judgments.

Advances in microfluidics in the last two decade have created a tremendous technological value which is shaping genomics; drug discovery; proteomics; and point-of-care diagnostics. The positive impact has resulted in faster analysis time, increased throughput and reduced cost amongst other important benefits. Yet, the life sciences end-users and the microfluidics players themselves are far from fully capturing the value. Author's own observation based on the experience at a leading genomics research institute, where multiple efforts to implement microfluidics technologies hardly succeeded, supports this fact. The failure to fully capture value has serious implications for the vendors developing microfluidics and the researchers employing these technologies. What are the reasons for this failure? What could be done to increase the value capture? Using well-established management frameworks, such as, s-curve, adopter's distribution model, the thesis studied the nature of value creation and value capture. Survey was used to quantify the impact and the diffusion and adoption of microfluidics technologies, as the respective indicators of value creation and value capture. The data support the insight obtained from the conceptual frameworks that microfluidics is still an immature technology. It also shows that immature technology is the primary reason for lack of full value capture rather than the lack of killer application or niche market - commonly reported reasons in the literature. As an immature technology, microfluidics is thus far still only in the hands of users who are innovators and early adopters - the academic laboratories and the research institutes. The application segments which have seen the most value capture are Genomics and Point-of-care diagnostics. The application segment which has seen the least value capture is Drug discovery. This thesis concludes with the recommendations for short and long term strategies for increasing value capture and accelerating the adoption of microfluidics.

Advanced or smart metering has been a hot topic in the electricity community for several years. Despite the excitement about the technology, few business cases are actually able to justify the investment cost. One reason for the gap between costs and benefits is that major benefits such as avoided investments have long payback times and are difficult to monetize. However, another aspect which is largely overlooked is the value creation through nonelectricity market related business models. These business models range from advertising over customer profiling up to insurance or juridical usage of data gathered from advanced meters. This paper summarizes the finding of a number of studies on the value of smart meter information on electricity market related benefit and gives an overview of non-electricity market related business models. The paper gives quantitative estimates of the value for electricity related activities such as energy efficiency, avoided investment and dynamic pricing. In additional it provides a qualitative analysis of the value and barriers of nonelectricity market business activities. In addition to this the study also gives a short outlook on how this value might be captured and which players are best positioned to capture significant shares of the total created value.

The participation in horizontal cooperation networks is suggested by several authors as an important strategy so that low economic status farmers under family management can keep or improve the profitability of their entrepreneurships. In this context, the issue that guides this study is to answer whether the horizontal cooperation networks which are set up among the family producers of vegetables really allow them to aggregate value to production and whether the values occasionally aggregated are captured by them as well. In order to answer it, a theoretical matrix was used, where it is discussed the importance of the collective action and the cooperation networks as a governance structure which encourage the family agriculture and, thus, the rural development. In the empirical approach, a study of multi-case of two organizations was carried out, a cooperative and an association of producers that gathers vegetable producers. As a result, it is noticed that the strategies developed by means of both organizations allowed the farmers to have the aggregation and the value capture. The participation in the cooperative provided to the producers gains resulting from the transference of technology and scale extension in vegetable production. In regard to the association, the value aggregation mainly resulted from the access to more profitable distribution channels and from processes of product differentiation. In both cases, it is also evidenced the value capture translated by the extension of the farmers average income and other indicators described in this study as well. However, it was possible to identify that, in spite of the gains provided to the farmers, the studied organizations face problems of economic competitiveness and viability of the same ones which were pointed out in this study. On the basis of such information, at the end of this essay, some suggestions were formulated in order to contribute with the improvement of the farmers income and the sustainability of the studied organizations.

Value-at-risk (VaR) model as a tool to estimate market risk is considered in the thesis. It is a statistical model defined as the maximum future loss due to likely changes in the value of financial assets portfolio during a certain period with a certain probability. A new definition of the aggregated VaR is given and the empirical study about different currencies position VaR estimates’ dependence on data aggregation functions (pointwise, maximum value, minimum value and average value) is provided. Functional ρ−GARCH(1,1) model is introduced and theorems of the stationary solution existence and maximum likelihood estimators of model parameters consistency are proved. Additionally, some examples of the model taking known density function of aggregated observations are given. Next, the general Hilbert space valued time series is presented and GARCH(1,1) model with univariate volatility is investigated. Theorems of the stationary solution existence, maximum likelihood estimators of model parameters consistency and asymptotic normality are proved; the analysis of residuals is provided. In the last chapter of the thesis the empirical study about Hurst index intraday value dependence on data aggregation taking different foreign currencies’ absolute returns is presented.

Answering queries over incomplete data is based on finding answers that are certainly true, independently of how missing values are interpreted. This informal description has given rise to several different mathematical definitions of certainty. To unify them, a framework based on "explanations", or extra information about incomplete data, was recently proposed. It partly succeeded in justifying query answering methods for relational databases under set semantics, but had two major limitations. First, it was firmly tied to the set data model, and a fixed way of comparing incomplete databases with respect to their information content. These assumptions fail for real-life database queries in languages such as SQL that use bag semantics instead. Second, it was restricted to queries that only manipulate data, while in practice most analytical SQL queries invent new values, typically via arithmetic operations and aggregation. To leverage our understanding of the notion of certainty for queries in SQL-like languages, we consider incomplete databases whose information content may be enriched by additional knowledge. The knowledge order among them is derived from their semantics, rather than being fixed a priori. The resulting framework allows us to capture and justify existing notions of certainty, and extend these concepts to other data models and query languages. As natural applications, we provide for the first time a well-founded definition of certain answers for the relational bag data model and for value-inventing queries on incomplete databases, addressing the key shortcomings of previous approaches.

Resumen
Heat transfer phenomena in complex physical systems like multiphase environments, multidimensional geometries can be difficult to capture in terms of correlations, analytical functions or numerical models using conventional techniques. Such systems are designed based on approximations, thumb-rules or semi-empirical correlations between parameters based on averaged values and are operated likewise using another set of rules derived from bulk thermodynamic performance parameters. With the development of nano-scale sensors and advanced data aggregation techniques, there is a need for analytical techniques that can discover the complex interrelationships between the thermodynamic parameters of the process, geometry constraints and the governing outcomes of the process. Such techniques can leverage the possibility of deployment of thousands of sensors to extract the key relationships that drive the transport phenomena for advanced development of process control tools and methodologies. Heat and mass transfer equipment design and operation can benefit from knowledge discovered through analytics applied on thermo-physical data obtained from real time processes. We present illustrative use cases of application of data analytics and knowledge discovery techniques to a richly instrumented data center where computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units provide cooling for IT equipment arranged in rows of racks. Sensors located at each rack provide temperature measurements which are analyzed in real-time and also archived. Rack temperatures, together with operating parameters of CRAC units such as supply air temperature (SAT), and variable speed drive (VFD) settings, are analyzed together to derive design insights and detect anomalies.

Texto completo
Resumen
Qualitative data centered on patients’ experiences and perspectives typically go uncollected in clinical trial settings. Yet patients’ treatment experiences offer complementary insights and context on topics such as disease management, treatment gaps, and previous treatments outside of those gathered in traditional patient-reported outcome questionnaires. Qualitative interviews can capture patients’ perceptions of treatment needs, more fully explore meaningful changes experienced as a result of treatment, and reveal outcomes that are most important to patients. Asking patients detailed questions can provide insight into the “why” of a patient’s expressed thought or feeling. The inclusion of patient interviews within clinical trials is a relatively new and evolving field of research. This article delineates the types of data that may be collected during interviews with clinical trial participants and outlines two approaches to conducting qualitative research in the clinical trial setting, with a focus on maximizing the value of the resulting data.

Resumen
Public investment in different types of tourism, from business to leisure tourism, has differentiated impacts on local economies, environment, people and government revenues. A fully integrated analytical approach such as the Integrated Economic-Environmental Modeling (IEEM) Platform is required to capture these multi-dimensional impacts. Applying IEEM to public investment in tourism in Costa Rica we find: investing in a higher skilled labor force particularly in traditional tourism-related activities will improve household welfare; similar increases in demand across all types of tourism show that Health tourism generates the greatest impact on household welfare, while Business tourism has the best prospects for reducing unemployment; Business tourism generates the largest increase in government revenues, but also has the largest greenhouse gas emission footprint, and; the whole of economy perspective of IEEM that captures direct, indirect and induced impacts results in a higher Net Present Value estimation of the investment.

Outcome Measure Harmonization and Data Infrastructure for Patient-Centered Outcomes Research in Depression: Report on Registry Configuration. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), noviembre de 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.23970/ahrqepcregistryoutcome.

Texto completo
Resumen
Background: Major depressive disorder is a common mental disorder. Many pressing questions regarding depression treatment and outcomes exist, and new, efficient research approaches are necessary to address them. The primary objective of this project is to demonstrate the feasibility and value of capturing the harmonized depression outcome measures in the clinical workflow and submitting these data to different registries. Secondary objectives include demonstrating the feasibility of using these data for patient-centered outcomes research and developing a toolkit to support registries interested in sharing data with external researchers. Methods: The harmonized outcome measures for depression were developed through a multi-stakeholder, consensus-based process supported by AHRQ. For this implementation effort, the PRIME Registry, sponsored by the American Board of Family Medicine, and PsychPRO, sponsored by the American Psychiatric Association, each recruited 10 pilot sites from existing registry sites, added the harmonized measures to the registry platform, and submitted the project for institutional review board review Results: The process of preparing each registry to calculate the harmonized measures produced three major findings. First, some clarifications were necessary to make the harmonized definitions operational. Second, some data necessary for the measures are not routinely captured in structured form (e.g., PHQ-9 item 9, adverse events, suicide ideation and behavior, and mortality data). Finally, capture of the PHQ-9 requires operational and technical modifications. The next phase of this project will focus collection of the baseline and follow-up PHQ-9s, as well as other supporting clinical documentation. In parallel to the data collection process, the project team will examine the feasibility of using natural language processing to extract information on PHQ-9 scores, adverse events, and suicidal behaviors from unstructured data. Conclusion: This pilot project represents the first practical implementation of the harmonized outcome measures for depression. Initial results indicate that it is feasible to calculate the measures within the two patient registries, although some challenges were encountered related to the harmonized definition specifications, the availability of the necessary data, and the clinical workflow for collecting the PHQ-9. The ongoing data collection period, combined with an evaluation of the utility of natural language processing for these measures, will produce more information about the practical challenges, value, and burden of using the harmonized measures in the primary care and mental health setting. These findings will be useful to inform future implementations of the harmonized depression outcome measures.

Pedersen, Gjertrud. Symphonies Reframed. Norges Musikkhøgskole, agosto de 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.22501/nmh-ar.481294.

Texto completo
Resumen
Symphonies Reframed recreates symphonies as chamber music. The project aims to capture the features that are unique for chamber music, at the juncture between the “soloistic small” and the “orchestral large”. A new ensemble model, the “triharmonic ensemble” with 7-9 musicians, has been created to serve this purpose. By choosing this size range, we are looking to facilitate group interplay without the need of a conductor. We also want to facilitate a richness of sound colours by involving piano, strings and winds. The exact combination of instruments is chosen in accordance with the features of the original score. The ensemble setup may take two forms: nonet with piano, wind quartet and string quartet (with double bass) or septet with piano, wind trio and string trio. As a group, these instruments have a rich tonal range with continuous and partly overlapping registers. This paper will illuminate three core questions: What artistic features emerge when changing from large orchestral structures to mid-sized chamber groups? How do the performers reflect on their musical roles in the chamber ensemble? What educational value might the reframing unfold? Since its inception in 2014, the project has evolved to include works with vocal, choral and soloistic parts, as well as sonata literature. Ensembles of students and professors have rehearsed, interpreted and performed our transcriptions of works by Brahms, Schumann and Mozart. We have also carried out interviews and critical discussions with the students, on their experiences of the concrete projects and on their reflections on own learning processes in general. Chamber ensembles and orchestras are exponents of different original repertoire. The difference in artistic output thus hinges upon both ensemble structure and the composition at hand. Symphonies Reframed seeks to enable an assessment of the qualities that are specific to the performing corpus and not beholden to any particular piece of music. Our transcriptions have enabled comparisons and reflections, using original compositions as a reference point. Some of our ensemble musicians have had first-hand experience with performing the original works as well. Others have encountered the works for the first time through our productions. This has enabled a multi-angled approach to the three central themes of our research. This text is produced in 2018.
