Resumen
The current situation in the market caused by COVID-19 pandemic brings new challenges. Lean management showed its deficiency in the form of low stock (JIT/JIS) already during the tsunami in 2011 in Japan, when the leader in LEAN Toyota withdrew from zero stock in order to be able to respond agilely to serious supply disruptions. The current unfavourable situation is a global problem that brings new requirements to ensure the competitiveness of companies. A possible response to this situation is provided in this article, which shows an example of the implementation of VSM (Value Stream Mapping) in a company operating in the automotive industry. VSM is based on the elimination of waste in the value stream, mainly in the case of material flow, which raises question of whether it is currently beneficial to eliminate stocks to a minimum. A new term VSM 4.0 has emerged, which is more suitable for current situation. It brings the benefits of digitization and industry 4.0 and aims to eliminate waste in information flows. The aim of this article is to elaborate a VSM map of the current and future state (VSD) and point out other possible savings in an optimized process thanks to VSM 4.0 so that the company is able to respond effectively to customer demands and maintain a competitive advantage despite the necessary stock levels in the warehouses.

O presente artigo tem por objetivo central identificar desperdícios no processo produtivo de uma empresa produtora de polietileno expandido de baixa densidade (PEBD) por meio de mapas de fluxo de valor (VSM - Value Stream Mapping) e, a partir daí, propor ações de melhorias. A empresa estudada – Ferpex - tem convivido com desperdícios em seu processo produtivo, como os de espera e de superprodução que contribuem para aumento do lead time e redução do índice de produtividade. Para a condução desse estudo de caso, foram utilizadas como fontes de evidência entrevistas com funcionários do processo produtivo sob investigação, observação in loco e análise de documentos fornecidos pela empresa. Este trabalho, além de corroborar para o aumento da eficiência dos processos produtivos da Ferpex, contribui no debate acerca da ferramenta VSM, dado sua implementação em um caso real. Apesar de ampla discussão na literatura nos últimos anos acerca do VSM, ainda permanecem questionamentos relacionados à sua implementação prática, sendo necessário verificar e analisar a forma como o VSM vem sendo empregado pelas empresas e quais os benefícios obtidos a partir de sua implementação. Os resultados mostram que o principal benefício da adoção do VSM foi a redução do lead time do processo estudado em 1,6 dias (38,4 horas), e as principais métricas utilizadas na análise da aplicação da ferramenta VSM foram takt time, lead time e tempo de valor agregado.

Purpose – Although many cases where viable system model (VSM) was successfully applied exist, hardly any literature advises the novice VSM user regarding the accomplishment of a VSM diagnosis. The purpose of this paper is to show practitioners and researchers how to conduct a VSM diagnosis. The paper further seeks to encourage others to apply VSM and to share their experience with using VSM. Design/methodology/approach – The paper provides detailed guidelines on how to conduct a VSM diagnosis in conjunction with qualitative research methods. It outlines the data collection, analysis and presentation of results. Findings – VSM is an outstanding diagnostic tool. Qualitative research methods provide access to the essential information for the VSM diagnosis and should be used in iteration with VSM. They can enhance the VSM diagnosis by focusing on the soft aspects in the investigated system. The VSM language needs to be adapted to the specific context in which VSM is used and VSM can be applied in a participatory manner. Further research needs to explore possibilities to strengthen the handling of detected shortcomings that were revealed during the VSM diagnosis. Research limitations/implications – This paper is based on one experience with the VSM application and other VSM users might provide different insights. Originality/value – There is little practical advice in existing literature regarding the accomplishment of a VSM diagnosis. This paper addresses that gap. In addition, VSM has not been applied to a sugarcane production and supply system before.

Multifunctional Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII) is a multigene family with isoform-specific regulation of vascular smooth muscle (VSM) functions. In previous studies, we found that vascular injury resulted in VSM dedifferentiation and reduced expression of the CaMKIIγ isoform in medial wall VSM. Smooth muscle knockout of CaMKIIγ enhanced injury-induced VSM neointimal hyperplasia, whereas CaMKIIγ overexpression inhibited VSM proliferation and neointimal formation. In this study, we evaluated DNA cytosine methylation/demethylation as a mechanism for regulating CaMKII isoform expression in VSM. Inhibition of cytosine methylation with 5-Aza-2′-deoxycytidine significantly upregulated CaMKIIγ expression in cultured VSM cells and inhibited CaMKIIγ downregulation in organ-cultured aorta ex vivo. With the use of methylated cytosine immunoprecipitation, the rat Camk2g promoter was found hypomethylated in differentiated VSM, whereas injury- or cell culture-induced VSM dedifferentiation coincided with Camk2g promoter methylation and decreased expression. We report for the first time that VSM cell phenotype switching is accompanied by marked induction of thymine DNA glycosylase (TDG) protein and mRNA expression in injured arteries in vivo and in cultured VSM synthetic phenotype cells. Silencing Tdg in VSM promoted expression of CaMKIIγ and differentiation markers, including myocardin, and inhibited VSM cell proliferation and injury-induced neointima formation. This study indicates that CaMKIIγ expression in VSM is regulated by cytosine methylation/demethylation and that TDG is an important determinant of this process and, more broadly, VSM phenotype switching and function. NEW & NOTEWORTHY Expression of the calcium calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II-γ isoform (CaMKIIγ) is associated with differentiated vascular smooth muscle (VSM) and negatively regulates proliferation in VSM synthetic phenotype (VSMSyn) cells. This study demonstrates that thymine DNA glycosylase (TDG) plays a key role in regulating CaMKIIγ expression in VSM through promoter cytosine methylation/demethylation. TDG expression is strongly induced in VSMSyn cells and plays key roles in negatively regulating CaMKIIγ expression and more broadly VSM phenotype switching.

Resumen
A pseudo-strain energy function (pseudo-SEF) describing the biomechanical properties of large conduit arteries under the influence of vascular smooth muscle (VSM) tone is proposed. In contrast to previous models that include the effects of smooth muscle contraction through generation of an active stress, in this study we consider the vascular muscle as a structural element whose contribution to load bearing is modulated by the contraction. This novel pseudo-SEF models not only arterial mechanics at maximal VSM contraction but also the myogenic contraction of the VSM in response to local increases in stretch. The proposed pseudo-SEF was verified with experimentally obtained pressure-radius curves and zero-stress state configurations from rat carotid arteries displaying distinct differences in VSM tone: arteries from normotensive rats displaying minimal VSM tone and arteries from hypertensive rats exhibiting significant VSM tone. The pressure-radius curves were measured in three different VSM states: fully relaxed, maximally contracted, and normal VSM tone. The model fitted the experimental data very well ( r2 > 0.99) in both the normo- and hypertensive groups for all three states of VSM activation. The pseudo-SEF was used to illustrate the localized reduction of circumferential stress in the arterial wall due to normal VSM tone, suggesting that the proposed pseudo-SEF can be of general utility for describing stress distribution not only under passive VSM conditions, as most SEFs proposed so far, but also under physiological and pathological conditions with varying levels of VSM tone.

Purpose This paper aims to apply vector space model (VSM)-PCR model to compute the similarity of Fault zone ontology semantics, which verified the feasibility and effectiveness of the application of VSM-PCR method in uncertainty mapping of ontologies. Design/methodology/approach The authors first define the concept of uncertainty ontology and then propose the method of ontology mapping. The proposed method fully considers the properties of ontology in measuring the similarity of concept. It expands the single VSM of concept meaning or instance set to the “meaning, properties, instance” three-dimensional VSM and uses membership degree or correlation to express the level of uncertainty. Findings It provides a relatively better accuracy which verified the feasibility and effectiveness of VSM-PCR method in treating the uncertainty mapping of ontology. Research limitations/implications The future work will focus on exploring the similarity measure and combinational methods in every dimension. Originality/value This paper presents an uncertain mapping method of ontology concept based on three-dimensional combination weighted VSM, namely, VSM-PCR. It expands the single VSM of concept meaning or instance set to the “meaning, properties, instance” three-dimensional VSM. The model uses membership degree or correlation which is used to express the degree of uncertainty; as a result, a three-dimensional VSM is obtained. The authors finally provide an example to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of VSM-PCR method in treating the uncertainty mapping of ontology.

Infection control teams collect and produce information on epidemiologic surveillance for prevention of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs). Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a Lean method for developing process through flow efficiency. The aim of the study was to use VSM to identify opportunities for improvement in the infection control department. Flow of information and infection control activities were reviewed using VSM and a questionnaire, where time required for each task was measured. The actual VSM went through multidisciplinary analysis and an ideal VSM was created without considering resource limits. The ideal VSM was reviewed to identify the improvements easily implemented and the ones that would require more time or resources. The actual VSM analysis addressed work overload for Key Performance Indicators (KPI) production, data management (fragmentation, access and redundant work, storage, time between tasks, time typing) and tasks performed retrospectively, when less information is available and with no opportunity to correct protocol deviation. The implementation of the ideal VSM provided a faster and more efficient HAIs analysis, London protocol for HAI cases and surgical prophylaxis evaluation became real time tasks, and all surgical surveillance was improved. A mobile app was proposed as an intervention and became a long-term project. If completely implemented, the ideal VSM would result in 15.7 less work hours/month, having the working time optimized for patient care. VSM is an important tool for epidemiologic surveillance in infection control allowing better data management, continuous workflow, and new information production with potentially fewer work hours.

På Söderbergs Personbilar i Norrköping AB bedrivs en serviceprocess för begagnade bilar, en tjänsteverksamhet som idag är präglad av en stor ineffektivitet med avseende på tid. I detta examensarbete utförs en fallstudie på företaget där problemet analyseras i syfte att identifiera det tidssvinn som förekommer i processen, utreda dess uppkomst, samt formulera passande åtgärdsförslag till företaget som vid ett genomförande skulle minska genomloppstiden för bilarna i processen. Intervjuer och observationer har skapat en övergripande förståelse för processen, där förklaringar har erhållits om hur processen är tänkt att fungera, hur den fungerar i praktiken, och varför den fungerar som den gör. Som komplement till detta har värdeflödeskartläggning av två bilar genomförts, där bilarnas färd genom processen studerades i praktiken. De två bilarna studerades från dess inkommande till företaget tills det att de var klara till försäljning. Genom detta erhölls ytterligare information om processen. I värdeflödeskartläggningen framkom det att tidssvinnet var stort för bägge bilar, och att andelen tid för värdehöjande aktiviteter var mycket liten för bilarna. Allt material om processen analyseras och ett antal olika åtgärdsförslag för processen är framarbetade till företaget. Tre huvudåtgärder presenteras som vid ett införande troligen skulle underlätta avsevärt för företaget vid ett genomförande av övriga åtgärdsförslag. Den första av dessa tre huvudåtgärder är att tillsätta en ledare för processen, något som saknas idag. Ledaren ska ha befogenheter att genomföra förändringar i processen, och ska arbeta för en ständig förbättring av processen. Den andra huvudåtgärden är att utveckla nedskrivna standarder för personalen som beskriver hur alla aktiviteter inom processen ska utföras. Standarderna ska vara utformade så att aktiviteterna utförs på ett optimalt sätt. Den tredje huvudåtgärden är att göra fler resurser dedikerade inom processen. Dessa tre åtgärder, och övriga åtgärdsförslag skulle med största sannolikhet generera en avsevärt kortare genomloppstid för bilarna, det vill säga precis det resultat som eftersöks i processen.

Sammanfattning

Syftet med detta arbete är att undersöka huruvida man på Viking Sewing Machines (VSM) skall sköta hanteringen av de symaskiner som företaget köper in från leverantörer i fjärran östern. Skall företaget inom egna lokaler sköta lagerhanteringen eller skall de fortsätta som i dagsläget med att företaget Schenker hanterar lagerhållningen?

Det här är en intressant frågeställning men samtidigt en komplex sådan. Det finns flera aspekter att ta hänsyn till innan man kan komma till ett beslut. Det krävs ett grundligt arbete med prognosplanering, t.ex. på grund av de långa ledtiderna som motsvarar 3-4 månader. Det här är viktigt för att kunna hålla en hög leveransservice mot kund då det periodvis sker svängningar i försäljningen. Handeln med symaskiner är kraftigt säsongsbetonad, med ett uppsving under vinterhalvåret. För att kunna hålla en ledande ställning på marknaden under rådande konkurrensklimat har VSM tvingats att förändra i produktstrukturen, där de enklare maskinerna är på väg bort från den egna produktionen. Kvar finns de mer avancerade maskinerna med imponerande datorkraft som klarar av de mest avancerade sömnader och mönster. Maskiner som tagits bort från den egna produktionen har ersatts med ”billiga” köpesmaskiner från leverantörer i fjärran östern, för att kunna konkurrera i segmentet av enklare symaskiner. Den här förändringen har resulterat i att det är mer ekonomiskt att outsoursa verksamheten till så kallade låglöneländer. Vi har utfört en så kallad fallstudie, där underlaget för arbetet består av primär och sekundär informationsinsamling. Det här har gjorts för att kunna samla in de olika data som är nödvändiga för att besvara vår frågeställning och komma fram till ett beslutsgrundande resultat. Den primära informationsstudien består av resultatet av de intervjuer som gjorts på företaget och den sekundära datainsamlingen består av litteratursökning.

Vi har räknat ut hur stor del av lagret som dessa köpesmaskinerna kommer att ta upp och detta har vi gjort genom att på olika sätt beräkna säkerhetslager och det totala maxilagret.

Rapporten visar att lägga ut lagerhanteringen på en utomstående part medför en extra kostnad. Resultatet av studien är utformad så att kostnaden att ha maskinerna ”hemma” är jämförd med kostnaden att ha maskinerna på Schenker. Uträkningar visar att det är väsentligt dyrare för företaget att lagerhålla hos den utomstående parten. VSM har ett automatiserat system och på Schenker tillkommer det hanteringskostnader dvs. kostnader för in- och uttag utöver hyra av lager. Skillnaderna i att ha maskinerna på brätt i VSM:s lager är alltså betydligt billigare jämfört med att ha dem på pall hos Schenker. Att lagerhålla maskinerna ”hemma” skulle också medföra en rationalisering av hanteringen då maskinerna skall säljas och pallarna skall packas om till respektive adress. Att i VSM:s lager ha maskinerna i datasystemet och i ett redan fungerande packningssystem tar alltså bort den arbetsbörda som tillkommer med att ha dem på Schenker. De siffror som inte tagits i beaktning är de investeringskostnader som krävs för att göra införandet av maskinerna möjligt. Problemformuleringen är som sagt tidigare komplex och för att ett beslut skall kunna tas måste man bedöma helheten och inte endast se till en kostnadspost. Det är därför svårt att utifrån endast resultatet av denna rapport kunna fälla ett 100% beslut.


Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate how the company Viking Sewing Machines (VSM) should handle the storing of its sewing machines bought from the Far East. Should VSM continue to store the machines in assistance with Schenker, or should the company handle the process by itself and store the machines in its own warehouse.

This question is interesting at the same time as it is complex. There are several aspects to consider prior to a decision can be made. It demands a thorough forecast planning, due to the three to four months long lead-time from the Far East. The company needs to consider this aspect carefully in order to keep a high quality delivery service during the sale fluctuations. The trade with sewing machines is highly dependent on the season, with increasing sales during the winter. To be able to maintain the leading position on the market VSM has been forced to make changes in its structure of products, where the simpler machines have been taken away from the production. The advanced machines are still produced by VSM, these machines have an impressive capacity that manages the most advanced sewing and patterns. The machines that have been taken away from production have been replaced with low-priced machines traded from the Far East. This change has resulted in that parts of VSM’s production are outsourced to low paid countries. We have conducted a case study, and our information consists of primary and secondary data. This study is done in order to collect data that is necessary for answering our research questions, and find a result for a decision. The primary data consists of the results received during the interviews, and the secondary data are based on the literature study.

We have done calculations of how much of the space in the warehouse will be occupied by the trading machines, calculating safety-stock and the total warehouse has attained this.

The study illustrates that by using an external part that handles the warehouse will result in increased costs for VSM. The result of the study is accomplished by comparing the cost of having the machines at “home” to the cost of using Schenker. The calculations demonstrate that it is much more expensive for VSM to make use of an external part. VSM has a fully automation system and at Schenker costs of handling the machines will be added, these costs consists of input and output of the products, besides the cost of renting the warehouse. The differences of having the machines on shelves, so-called “brätt”, at VSM are therefore considerably beneficial. It would also lead to a rationalization when handling the machines when they are sold and the pallets are to be loaded to respective dispatch note. At VSM the machines are registered in the computer system and they already have a functional packing system. The numbers that the report not have bin taken in consideration are the investment costs that are required for making the introduction of the machines at VSM´s warehouse possible. The problem are as said earlier a complex decision variable and to make a decision you have to estimate the global approach and not only to one cost unit. It is therefore from only this report hard to come by a 100% resolution.

Companies face new challenges almost every day. In order to stay competitive, it is important that companies strive for continuous development and improvement. By describing companies through their processes it is possible to get a clear overview of the entire operation, which can contribute, to a well-established overall understanding of the company. This is a case study based on Stort AB which is a small logistics company specialized in international transportation and logistics solutions. The purpose of this study is to perform value stream mapping in order to create a more efficient production process and propose possible improvements in order to reduce processing time. After performing value stream mapping, data envelopment analysis is used to calculate how lean Stort AB is today and how lean the company can become by implementing the proposed improvements. The results show that the production process can improve efficiency by minimizing waste produced by a bad workplace layout and over-processing. The authors suggested solution is to introduce standardized processes and invest in technical instruments in order to automate the process to reduce process time. According to data envelopment analysis the business is 41 percent lean at present and may soon become 55 percent lean and finally reach an optimum 100 percent lean mode if the process is automated.
Företag står idag inför ständigt nya utmaningar. För att behålla sin konkurrenskraft är det viktigt att företag ständigt utvecklas och förbättras. Att beskriva företag genom deras processer och kartlägga alla flöden som genomströmmar företaget så uppstår en tydlig överblick över hela verksamheten som bidrar till en bra helhetsförståelse av företaget. Denna studie baseras på en fallstudie hos Stort AB som är ett mindre logistikföretag med specialisering på internationella transporter och logistiklösningar. Syftet med studien är att utföra en värdeflödesanalys med mål att effektivisera pakethanteringen och föreslå möjliga förändringsalternativ hur Stort AB kan effektivisera den befintliga pakethanteringen med fokus på tidsreducering. Efter värdeflödesanalysen användes data envelopment analysis för att beräkna hur lean verksamheten är idag och hur lean verksamheten kan bli genom förbättringsförslagen. Resultaten visar att pakethanteringen kan effektiviseras genom att minimera slöseri i form av onödiga rörelser och överbearbetning, införa standardiserade processer och genom att investera i teknik för att automatisera processen. Bakgrund: Den svenska produktionsindustrin hotas utav så kallade låglöneländer som kanerbjuda samma tillverkning med en högre lönsamhet. Detta gör att verksamheten måste varaattraktiv för såväl investerare som kunder vilket gör att företaget måste genomföra ständigaförbättringar för att klara konkurrensen. Detta är något som även Xylem i Emmaboda kännerav. Xylem tillverkar ett brett utbud av dränkbara vattenpumpar men även annan utrustningsom krävs för att leverera vattenteknologi. Tidigare studier på en utav Xylems verkstäderOPX har visat att produktionen lägger mycket tid på aktiviteter som inte är värdeskapande såsom materialhantering och andra förflyttningar genom fabriken. Syfte: Syftet med uppsatsen är att identifiera var det kan finnas slöserier genom att utföra enValue stream mapping på en utav Xylems verkstäder i Emmaboda. Metod: Arbetet består av en fallstudie med explorativt syfte som utförs genom en Valuestream mapping. En kvalitativ forskningsmetod med insamling av såväl kvalitativa somkvantitativa data, genom observationer, intervjuer, litteraturstudier och tidsstudier hargenomförts. Resultat, slutsatser: Uppsatsen resulterade i en nutidskarta över bana 102 på OPX som i vilken en del mindre slöserier identifierades. Dock gav inte den valda metoden Value stream mapping önskat resultat då de upplevda slöserierna ifrån fallföretagets sida inte kunde identifieras. Utifrån detta drar författarna slutsatsen att en annan metod med utgångspunktifrån de upplevda problemen borde ha valts eller att de upplevda slöserierna inte grundar sig iden utvalda tillverkningsbanan.

In the final of magistral work I investigate increase of efficiency of industrial companies. I am mostly concentrated in creation of model for increase of efficiency of manufacturing. That will mostly be appropriate for industrial companies that are specialized in metal manufacturing and welding. In the first part analysis of scientific – methodic literature on theme of manufacturing efficiency increase is described by me including the essential notions. I have investigated various aspects of manufacturing organization. I have deepen in principles of possession of manufacturing and have analyzed principles of selection of Lean tools paying attention on criteria set in companies. In the second part information about surveys of trends of development of industrial companies is being given. I have invoked data of the Department of statistics. Questionnaire has been concluded and sent to industrial companies. In the third part model of increase of manufacturing efficiency is chartered. Also model of installment stages is drawn and divided. In each stage installment steps are named together with which the tool appropriate for installment of this is offered. Baigiamajame magistro darbe nagrinėju pramonės įmonių gamybos efektyvumo kelimą. Labiausiai koncentruojos ties gamybos efektyvumo kelimo modelio sukūrimu. Kuris labiausiai tiks pramonės įmonėms, kuriuos specializuojasi metalo apdirbimo ir suvirinimu. Pirmoje dalyje atlikta mokslinės - metodinės literatūros analizę gamybos kelimo efektyvumo tema aprašiau pagrindines sąvokas. Išnagrinėjau įvairius gamybos organizavimo aspektus. Įsigilinau į gamybos valdymo principus bei išanalizavau Lean įrankių pasirinkimo principus atsižvelgdamas į įmonėse nusistatytus kriterijus. Antroje dalyje yra pateikiama pramonės įmonių plėtros tendencijų tyrimus. Pasitelkiau Statistikos departamento teikiamus duomenys. Buvo sudaryta klausimų anketa ir išsiustos į pramonės įmones. Trečioje dalyje aprašytas mano sukurtas gamybos efektyvumo kelimo modelis. Taip pat nubražytas ir suskirstytas į modelis į diegimo etapus. Kiekviename etape yra įvardijami diegimo žingsniai, šalia kurių yra pasiūlytas tam žingsniui idiegti, galimas įrankis. Modelio privalumas tame, kad visi žingsniai yra parodyti eiles tvarka ir šalia pasiūlyti įrankiai. Kadangi išnagrinėjes kitų autorių pasiūlytus to pasigedau, manau kad mano modelis labai padėtų pradedančioms įmonėms įsidiegti Lean. Resumen
Sustainable Value Stream Mapping (Sus-VSM) builds upon traditional VSM to capture additional sustainability aspects of the product flow, such as environmental and societal aspects. This work presents research to expand the utility of Sus-VSM to supply chain networks, develop a general approach towards improving supply chain sustainability, and examine the benefits of implementing simulation and a design of experiments (DOE) style analysis. Metrics are identified to assess economic, environmental, and societal sustainability for supply chain networks and visual symbols are developed for the Supply Chain Sus-VSM (SC Sus-VSM) to allow users to easily identify locations where sustainability can be improved. A discrete event simulation (DES) model is developed to simulate the supply chain, allowing easier creation of future state maps, which are used to identify locations for sustainability improvement. A scoring methodology and DOE-style analysis are developed to collect more information from the supply chain. Results from the case study show that the SC Sus-VSM meets the goals desired, and that the DES model aids the goals of the map. It is also indicated that interventions in the supply chain should first focus on economic improvements, followed by societal and then environmental improvements to achieve the greatest supply chain sustainability.

Este trabalho teve como principais objetivos a exploração e o controle da técnica de Litografia Óptica de Escrita Direta na preparação de arranjos magnéticos extensos e de boa qualidade. Foram preparadas microestruturas à base de Permalloy e realizamos a caracterização morfologia e magnética desses sistemas. Os objetos obtidos pela técnica de microlitografia foram círculos e elipsóides cujas dimensões se restringiram a alguns micrômetros e foram dispostos em uma matriz quadrada contendo milhares destes elementos. Além de utilizar o DWL66 da HEIDELBERG instruments para a fabricação das máscaras de fotoresina, também foi utilizado o plasma etching para a limpeza do substrato antes e depois do processo de escrita. A deposição do material magnético foi utilizando magnetron sputtering DC. Ainda na preparação, foi confeccionada uma câmara para iluminação das amostras, com o intuito de aperfeiçoar o processo de sensibilização da fotoresina e assim minimizar a presença de resíduos decorrentes da etapa de remoção pelo revelador. Para a caracterização estrutural das amostras foram feitas análises por microscopia óptica, microscopia de Força Atômica e microscopia eletrônica de varredura. As imagens obtidas por essas técnicas revelaram arranjos extensos de boa qualidade e estruturas cujas dimensões e formas obedeciam à regularidade desejada, indicando a aplicabilidade da técnica e a confiabilidade em reproduzir estruturas. No que diz respeito à caracterização magnética, utilizou-se um Magnetômetro de Amostra Vibrante para obtenção de curvas de magnetização em função do campo aplicado.

Nas últimas décadas, tem aumentado o interesse no estudo da viabilidade organizacional por meio da utilização do Viable System Model (VSM) para o exame, analise e (re)desenho de uma organização que atravessa mudanças significativas. Dentre os modos de emprego do VSM (Modo I: Diagnóstico Organizacional e Modo II: Re-desenho Organizacional), o Modo I é fundamental e decisivo para seu sucesso, permitindo examinar, interpretar e modificar fraquezas ou falhas da estrutura sendo logo adotadas ações corretivas/preventivas por meio de indicadores (Modo II). O presente trabalho tem como objetivo propor e aplicar um método que permita avaliar a viabilidade da área de Produção do Programa da Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Aeronáutica e Mecânica (PG/EAM-P) do ITA. O método proposto foi baseado no modelo cibernético do Viable System Model (VSM) e no Sistema de Medição de Desempenho. A aplicação do método proposto no PG/EAM-P, mostrou-se idôneo para uma instituição federal de ensino superior, visando examinar a viabilidade organizacional e posterior desempenho da instituição que atravessa uma fase de mudanças. Os resultados do diagnóstico organizacional do PG/EAMP-P sugeriram que perante a complexidade, o sistema em estudo é um sistema viável e que cumpre os requisitos fundamentais e necessários para que possa manter uma existência independente, com unidades que tenham autonomia e com melhoria da sinapse (feedback) nos canais de comunicação e controle.

ABSTRACT Introduction and purpose Development of a VSM tool has been done by performing experimental field work at ABB Robotics, a company that mass produces industrial robots and associated accessories. The tool development, the primary part of the project, mainly puts focus on production aspects. Furthermore, it has been centered on plant layouts of the product layout kind (production line). The purpose of the development is to create a tailored VSM tool that auto generates a foundation for value stream maps based on calculations and possibly simple simulation. The purpose is broken down into two questions where concrete problems can be illustrated: A) How should the VSM tool plainly signal capacity vs. demand, time balances in production and the ratio between value and non-value adding aspects as well as intuitively promote knowledge and in a simple and fast manner be applicable to different kinds of production lines? B) Which constraints are placed on the potential of the VSM tool due to the current situation of the company, how does this contradict the main principles of VSM and how can the company work to maximize the tool´s potential in the future? Methodology and knowledge The development which is characterized by continuous counseling and feedback with the internal mentor is mainly based on laboratory work in Excel. In addition, the work has also involved the making of a user guide as well as an adjustable function for indicating production effects with colors. An evaluation of the tool and the user guide has also been made, which mainly is supported by a test run with the internal mentor and the nature of the methodology. The knowledge that the development uses as its footing mainly involves process- and value stream maps from the company, discussions with company personnel, self-performed laboratory work and theory from Rother and Shooks book “Lära sig se” (2005) and Drew. A. Locher´s book “Value Stream Mapping for Lean Development” (2008). Results The VSM tool manages, in a relevant way, to factor in all aspects that can be interpreted using a typical value stream map. In addition it also provides the following: balances between workstations and production lines, suggestions for amount of WIP between these, simple simulation of WIP between these, disturbance aspects, three total times; manufacturing lead time, inventory time and value adding time as well as a graphic illustration over production courses. The results are considered to fulfill the purpose of the project. Conclusion and future meaning The development results in a hybrid solution of sorts, a tool that exists somewhere in-between the typical draw-by-hand VSM work and simulation software. Its advantage is that it combines VSM theory with intuitive, swift and practical usage, which goes well in hand with today´s fluctuating conditions where time pressure of different kinds are present. The drawback is that the concept as a whole requires complementing in the form of Lean knowledge and gemba observations. Furthermore, there are implications associated with some types of parallel production and editing of the tool, which is to be addressed before implementation. In order to fully utilize the tool, the company also has to examine production times and make a minor adjustment to the process of collecting disturbance data. Three suggestions for the future are given; to study availability, transport aspects and the measuring of production times.

Resumen
This study presents an analysis of voltage stability of the electrical power system with the integration of renewable energy and the improvement of the conventional analysis using the artificial neural network (ANN), which is mainly focused on the effect of distributed generator-solar (DG-Solar) towards the electric power system. Real power and reactive power margins of both voltage stability are expressed as VSM (P) and VSM (Q), respectively. They are obtained from the actual power-voltage (PV) and reactive-power (QV) curve, which is created for each series by a series of load flows by incrementing P and Q load. Then, the system will integrate with 5MW, 50MW and 100MW of DG-Solar to compare the electric power system before and after the integration. The results are observed and compared for both situations. After that, an analysis improvement is made by using ANN-based model to predict the values of VSM (P) and VSM (Q) without having to perform PV QV Curve and calculate VSM (P) and VSM (Q). IEEE 30-bus was chosen as the electrical power system. The load flow analysis and ANN-based model are simulated and developed by using MATLAB software.

Resumen
The article is devoted to the systematization of experience in the deployment, maintenance and servicing of the private academic cloud. The article contains model of the authors’ cloud infrastructure. It was developed at Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University (Ukraine) on the basis of the Apache CloudStack platform. The authors identify the main tasks for maintaining a private academic cloud. Here they are making changes to the cloud infrastructure; maintenance of virtual machines (VM) to determine the performance and migration of VM instances; work with VMs; backup of all cloud infrastructure. The analysis of productivity and providing students with computing resources is carried out. The main types of VM used in training are given. The number and characteristics of VM that can be served by a private academic cloud are calculated. Approaches and schemes for performing backup are analysed. Some theoretical and practical experience of using cloud services to perform backup has been studied. Several scripts have been developed for archiving the platform database and its repositories. They allow you to upload backups to the Google Drive cloud service. The performance of these scripts for the author’s deployment of private cloud infrastructure was evaluated.

In the development field, technical assistance (TA) broadly refers to support for a specific project or country programme in the form of technical advice, research and data sharing, and skills training, among other activities. As a result, TA may be more valuable as a development tool than the amount of funding received. The primary areas of focus for TA include developing a project pipeline, de-risking investments, and assisting TA beneficiaries in their efforts to improve business standards, as well as supporting policy reforms by developing country. Because TA recipients may face a variety of issues, effective TA programmes can take many forms. TA programmes must be established to address beneficiaries’ primary concerns. The goal for both TA recipients and donors should be to determine the main objective of the TA and to select from a variety of technical adviser, taking into account the limitations and enabling conditions for each approach (Nastase et al., 2020). Some useful principles (or good practices) when designing and implementing TA (through in-house or external contracting) include: • Importance of local ownership: • Partnerships and inclusivity: • Effectiveness: • Value-for-money (VFM): TA can be delivered in-house or by contracting out TA to other firms or suppliers. However, each approach has certain merits (VFM and other factors) and shortcomings. There is a very limited evidence base regarding an explicit discussion of the merits of in-house vs commissioned TA programming. Much of the available evidence simply describes TA programme elements – rather than the VFM behind business cases for in-house or contracted TA design and delivery.

Vesicular-arbuscular mycorrhizal (VAM) fungi and other beneficial rhizosphere microorganisms, such as Rhizobium bacteria, must locate and infect a host plant before either symbiont profits. Although benefits of the VAM association for increased phosphorous uptake have been widely documented, attempts to improve the fungus and to produce agronomically useful amounts of inoculum have failed due to a lack of in vitro production methods. This project was designed to extend our prior observation that the alfalfa flavonoid quercetin promoted spore germination and hyphal growth of VAM fungi in the absence of a host plant. On the Israeli side of the project, a detailed examination of changes in flavonoids and flavonoid-biosynthetic enzymes during the early stages of VAM development in alfalfa found that VAM fungi elicited and then suppressed transcription of a plant gene coding for chalcone isomerase, which normally is associated with pathogenic infections. US workers collaborated in the identification of flavonoid compounds that appeared during VAM development. On the US side, an in vitro system for testing the effects of plant compounds on fungal spore germination and hyphal growth was developed for use, and intensive analyses of natural products released from alfalfa seedlings grown in the presence and absence of microorganisms were conducted. Two betaines, trigonelline and stachydrine, were identified as being released from alfalfa seeds in much higher concentrations than flavonoids, and these compounds functioned as transcriptional signals to another alfalfa microsymbiont, Rhizobium meliloti. However, these betaines had no effect on VAM spore germination or hyphal growth i vitro. Experiments showed that symbiotic bacteria elicited exudation of the isoflavonoids medicarpin and coumestrol from legume roots, but neither compound promoted growth or germination of VAM fungi in vitro. Attempts to look directly in alfalfa rhizosphere soil for microbiologically active plant products measured a gradient of nod-gene-inducing activity in R. meliloti, but no novel compounds were identified for testing in the VAM fungal system in vitro. Israeli field experiments on agricultural applications of VAM were very successful and developed methods for using VAM to overcome stunting in peanuts and garlic grown in Israel. In addition, deleterious effects of soil solarization on growth of onion, carrot and wheat were linked to effects on VAM fungi. A collaborative combination of basic and applied approaches toward enhancing the agronomic benefits of VAM asociations produced new knowledge on symbiotic biology and successful methods for using VAM inocula under field conditions

Resumen
Value for Money (VfM) is a concept that broadly defines how to maximise and sustain equitable and quality outputs, outcomes and impact for a given level of resources. VfM is a frequently misunderstood term, often associated with complex economic analysis methods. The literature reviewed in this report shows no clear consensus concerning how VfM should be defined. This rapid literature review collates available literature on the value for money of different CSO delivery options. It draws on a diverse range of sources from academic and grey literature. The review draws heavily on a number of sources including Coffey (2015), Laws and Valters (2021) and INTRAC (2020).Despite a range of definitions of VfM being developed and refined, there exist a dearth of detailed attempts to understand how best to conceptualise, measure and manage VfM for programmes which aim to be adaptive.How VfM is interpreted continues to evolve, for example, the Independent Commission for Aid Impact has broadened how VfM is assessed by requiring different types of accountability and transparency commitments to ensure that CSOs use funding responsibly (ICAI, 2018).The availability of VfM evidence across many funding arrangements is lacking or incomplete. Additionally, while the effectiveness and impact of specific funding mechanisms was typically explored and assessed in the literature, the relationship between the design and execution of the broader funding arrangement in relation to VfM was usually inferred rather than explicitly assessed.
