The aim of this study is to reconstruct the development dynamics of key agricultural sectors and specific categories of farms in the Buryat-Mongolian ASSR during the Great Patriotic War. The primary source for constructing the development trends of agricultural production consists of aggregated statistical monitoring data on agriculture for 1940–1945, processed by specialists from the Central Statistical Directorate (CSU). These materials are being introduced into scholarly circulation for the first time. The research establishes that agriculture in the autonomy developed under unfavorable con

Defending the Baltic States militarily after 1918 was not an option for British governments burdened by commitments to Imperial defence, and with only a skeletal British Expeditionary Force available to meet new European obligations incurred by the Treaty of Locarno. London saw stability and economic prosperity in the Baltic region as a whole as the real key to lasting independence for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. To this goal Britain made a vital contribution after 1918, as a recipient of Baltic agricultural and other exports, thus facilitating Baltic purchases of manufactured products from

The archives of the Catholic News Agency (CNA) shed valuable light on the transition of American Catholics from antiwar isolationists to militant anticommunists. Until December 1941 most Catholics opposed American intervention in the European military conflict, but after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor they patriotically supported American troops and silently tolerated the alliance with the Soviet Union. But from the spring of 1943 American Catholics began to speak out openly against the communist ally. The news feeds from CNA shed light on this transformation: they underscore the role of

For governments in power during periods of war, securing the food supply of the urban areas and the military has been one of the most important economic problems. The expansion of the armed forces and the necessity to feed them better inevitably leads to increases in the demand for foodstuffs. In the more developed economies, the more mechanized and more flexible agricultural sectors have often been capable of responding to increased demand. The pressures of an emergency situation, however, have a much more severe impact on the agrarian structures in an underdeveloped economy, often leading to

Among them, the US aid policy to Myanmar deserves our attention. Its different support policies for Myanmar in different time periods were largely influenced by the relationship between Myanmar and the Soviet Union, and also considered the relationship with various countries in Southeast Asia. Unlike these cases, food production in Spanish cities during the civil war of 1936-1939 has received little attention.
