Résumé :
Dehorning and disbudding are the routine management practices in goat farm. Benefit of dehorning and disbudding includes less space required during feeding, easy management, good carcass quality and are required before dairy goats are used as a show animal in theUnited States. Dehorning is the process of surgically removing horns from adult goats. Dehorning causes severe pain during the surgery and several complications thereafter. Four to six weeks is needed for healing dehorned wound. Dehorning is not generally practiced unless necessary. Disbudding is the process of removing horn buds at an

Résumé :
Dehorning is a common practice in cattle farming. Researchers suggest that pain during dehorning can be mitigated, although there is no conclusive evidence about the best technique and the best manner of pain relief. A systematic review-meta-analysis was performed to clarify the effect of dehorning on welfare indicators (cortisol concentration or average daily gain or vocalisation) in beef cattle up to 12 months of age. Five electronic databases were systematically searched, as well as conference proceedings and experts were contacted electronically. Pre-defined protocols were applied during a

Some precocious almond varieties often produce little vegetative growth once they reach full maturity. A pruning trial was established using 11 year old `Harvey' trees that were healthy but making little or no new growth. The four treatments were: 1) severe heading or dehorning trees to six foot in height (first year only), 2) heading one third of the tree for three years, 3) making 20 small heading cuts all over the tree each year, and 4) normal thinning cuts (or control). All heading treatments caused more shoot growth than did the conventional thinning cuts (or control). The dehorning treat

Thermal disbudding and dehorning are very common techniques employed for the removal of horn buds in dairy calves. Infrared thermography was used to determine the local temperature before the thermal disbudding procedure, five seconds into the procedure, and two hours after the procedure was finished. Background: Some studies have used thermography to evaluate the local temperature after applying a hot-iron device to produce a permanently visible mark on calves. Our objective was to evaluate the local temperature and the thermal pattern following hot-iron disbudding and to certify that the loc

Abstract Genetic engineering of animals, or the alteration of an animal’s genetic code by exogenous manipulation, dates from the mid-1970s. Using these techniques, many transgenic animals were created as models for human diseases or to further agricultural and biomedical research, but barriers that slowed the approval of these animals for food production hampered their development in livestock. However, with the advent of gene editing in the last ten years, there is renewed interest in genetic modification of livestock to improve productivity, efficiency or product quality.
