The view that indoctrination, as one of the processes of educating, is defective on ground of lack of consideration for the learner’s ability to think and exercise their minds calls for serious attention, particularly when the ECCDE learner is exposed to serious academic work and less recognition is given to play and cultivation of rational autonomy. Résumé :
Liberal education generally believed that true education must be universal and free from indoctrinative practices. It is moving from liberal education principles that uphold the values that are vital to the moral and intellectual development of man, such as critical thinking, personal autonomy and pluralism of thought. However, when juxtaposed with other variants of educational paradigm promoted mainly by radicals and conservatives, it was not easy to be realized. Liberal education proved epistemologically partisan and incompletely sterile from practices of indoctrination.

Genetics is a fast-developing field and it has been argued that genetics education is lagging behind. Genetics education has, for example, been suspected of indoctrinating strong genetic determinism. As the updating of the national upper secondary school curricula is about to start, we decided to study how the current curriculum manifests in Finnish biology textbooks. We studied the main four textbooks for historical gene models and definitions of genes using content analysis. Hybrid models were pervasive in textbooks. The textbooks expressed sometimes even strong genetic determinism, which mi

The mechanism of propaganda allied to the dominance of modern science played a major role in limiting the masses’ scope of thinking during Nazi Germany. Using a detailed analysis of Hannah Arendt’s works on the human condition and totalitarian regimes, and supporting them by Edward Bernays’ studies on propaganda, the present paper focuses on two essential points. One of them is the connection between the modern age and the human ability to think. According to Arendt, the rise of modern science revolutionized western tradition and prepared the ground for the prevalence of thoughtlessness, the i

“Balance” in the classroom has been the subject of recent debate in academic and public spheres, with some calling for legislation to prevent instructors from “indoctrinating” students. The debate over balance is important to sociology because the discipline is sometimes characterized as overtly liberal and activist; but the implications of balance for teaching and learning remain unclear. In this article, we present the results of a study in which we operation-alized balance as students' perceptions of whether instructors discussed points of view other than their own and invited criticism of

During the period of communism in Romania (1945-1989), the ideologisation of the younger generation was a concerted action, carried out throughout the period of institutionalised education and supported by the establishment of children and youth organisations (the Homeland Hawks, the Pioneers’ Organisation, the Communist Youth Union). In this context, textbooks in pre-university education were one of the forms of ideologising young people, but their degree of politicisation varied, depending on the specifics of each subject. Environmental sanitation has been defined as managing any aspects of a man's physical environment that might harm his physical, cognitive, or social health. Indoctrinating good environmental sanitation practices into its citizenry has been and remains a foremost concern for the Nigerian government, with several laws enacted at levels of government to achieve this target. Although there are many of these laws, compliance with environmental sanitation laws remains at its lowest ebb in Nigeria.
