Organic farming is a holistic approach that preserves natural resources, increases the biodiversity of the area, and respects the environment. Because the previous intensive agriculture has disturbed natural habitats and heterogeneity, organic or low-input farming has a less negative impact on biodiversity and naturally controls weeds and pests. Chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is highly rich in vitamins and hence antioxidant. The disease caused by the fungus Rhizoctonia solani Kühn is a severe disturbance to rice cultivation in Indonesia. R. solani is soil borne fungi and highly competitive as saprophyte. In mature compost, R. solani propagules in the form of sclerotia germination were suppressed by hyperparasites and other biological control agents. Compost maturity level affects the ability of sclerotia to germinate. Initial inoculum reduction as sclerotia in steril soil was studied in glass house which is treated wit

Downy mildew (Pseudoperonospora cubensis) and powdery mildew (Podosphaera xanthii) are two of the most economically important and widespread cucurbit diseases. Disease management relies primarily on fungicide use, but frequent fungicide applications can lead to the development of resistant pathogen populations. In addition, more vegetables are being produced with organic practices, which prohibit the use of many fungicides. Incorporating biorational products into a disease management program may help mitigate the risk of fungicide resistance development while being compatible with organic prod

Abstract With the rising awareness of the adverse effects of chemical pesticides, people are looking for organically grown vegetables. Consumers are increasingly choosing organic foods due to the perception that they are healthier than those conventionally grown. Vegetable crops are vulnerable to a range of pathogenic organisms that reduce yield by killing the plant or damaging the product, thus making it unmarketable. Soil-borne diseases are among the major factors contributing to low yields of organic produce. Apart from chemical pesticides there are several methods that can be used to prote

Landscape heterogeneity is thought to differ among farm management types (i.e. organic and conventional), and this difference is hypothesized to result in variations in pest control by natural enemies. Remotely sensed datasets were used to describe the landscape structure surrounding a group of organic and conventional caneberry farms in Oregon and Washington that have different leafroller parasitism rates attributed to farm management type.
