7075 matrix alloy was fabricated by in-situ reaction liquidus curve casting method, and its as-cast microstructure was analyzed, the wear properties of these composites and matrix alloy were studied under the different conditions. The results show that the wear resistance of TiC/7075 composites is superior to 7075 matrix alloy in the same conditions (with same load or rotating velocity). Large TiB2 particles (1–2 μm) agglomerate at grain boundaries, but most of the particles are on the submicron scale. Adding 4.5 wt.% TiB2 particles effectively optimizes α-Al grains in the 7075 aluminum alloy. Abstract Experimental evidence collected by the authors shows that the growth of pits on Al alloys and Al-based metal matrix composites can be monitored by EIS. Characteristic changes occur in the impedance spectra when pits have exceeded a certain minimum depth. The phase angle is especially sensitive to the initiation of pits.
