Background: In this paper, we aimed to examine the patterns of sleep disturbance in adjustment disorder (AD) and depressive episode (DE), to examine the variables associated with sleep disturbance in AD and DE and associated impairment in functioning. Methods: This is a multi-centre case-control study of 370 patients: 185 patients with AD and 185 patients with a diagnosis of DE, recruited from the liaison psychiatry services of three Dublin hospitals. We examined the participants’ sleep pathology using the sleep disturbance items on the Schedule for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry, and

AbstractIs there an association between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and depression? OSA is a common breathing-related sleep disorder. There have been reports that depressive symptoms can be associated with this sleep disorder. A number of investigations have addressed this issue. Although some have found no correlation, most studies have concluded that there is an association between OSA and depressive symptoms. Other investigations have shown that depressive symptoms improve with treatment of OSA, and that untreated OSA may contribute to treatment resistance in some cases of mood disorders.

Abstract Introduction Race, immigration status and healthcare access have known associations with sleep health in socially disadvantaged groups. The prevalence and severity of sleep disorders, such as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) are higher among non-whites and underdiagnosed in socially disadvantaged groups. Associations between sleep health and country of birth have also been identified. Certain minority groups are known to be less likely to report symptoms of OSA or insomnia to a physician. It's therefore possible that propensity for sleep disorder self-report plays a role in disparities o

Light is the primary input to the circadian clock, with daytime light strengthening rhythms and night light disrupting them. Therefore, habitual light exposure may represent an environmental risk factor for susceptibility to psychiatric disorders. Objective: To compare the performance of popular machine learning algorithms (ML) in mapping the sensorimotor cortex (SM) and identifying the anterior lip of the central sulcus (CS). Methods: We evaluated support vector machines (SVMs), random forest (RF), decision trees (DT), single layer perceptron (SLP), and multilayer perceptron (MLP) against standard logistic regression (LR) to identify the SM cortex employing validated features from six-minute of NREM sleep icEEG data and applying standard common hyperparameters and 10-fold cross-validation. Each algorithm was tested using vetted feature
