I was the graduate student that Albert Jonsen so aptly describes. Bronx born and educated at the City College of New York, I emigrated to the Midwest to study at the Minnesota Center for the Philosophy of Science, where May Brodbeck, Herbert Feigl and other “logical positivists” were engaging in an ongoing dialogue with postpositivists like Paul Feyerabend and Karl Popper. In this environment, I studied philosophy of science, epistemology, and metaethics—the epistemology and logic of ethical concepts and language. I even wrote my thesis on the ur-text of the metaethical turn, G. E. Moore's Pri

The extent to which other more prominent behaviours occurring throughout the 24-hour day (i.e., sitting, standing, lying down, and stepping) are associated with UC outcomes is unknown. Purpose The purpose of this study was to explore whether objectively measured time spent sitting, lying down, standing, and stepping were associated with Total Mayo score (TMS), fecal calprotectin (FCP), and C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients with UC. ArgumentIn Italy, only 2 per cent of the population consider scientists and experts to be society's leading personalities (Censis 2006). Scientists are classified among the “weak social groups” and more precisely as those who have little influence either because they lack representation in the media (the faculty), or because they lack resources. (Young researchers face the lowest percentage of GDP invested in research among the G8 countries.) This article contributes to the current debate on science policies in Europe and addresses the question of why science has such a low reputation in Italy

The ability to cryopreserve epididymal sperm from mature postmortem bucks has long been of interest to both wildlife conservationists and deer ranchers. At present, there is loss of valuable genetics from the hunter harvest of trophy males. Increasing adult body weight and antler size of adult males would be of substantial economic value to the deer hunting industry. In this preliminary trial, 6 yearling pen-raised Whitetail does (47 to 58 kg), in good body condition, were isolated from all bucks prior to the onset of the fall breeding season. Females were synchronized for AI with a 14-day cap
