The aim of this study is to evaluate in-vitro activity of Cefamandol (Cfm) and Ceftazidime (Cfz), in combination with Clavulanic acid (CA) against ten complicated multiresistant uropathogenic E.coli .One hundred clinical strains were isolated from patients with chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs), these isolates were identified by the Api identification systems. The antimicrobial susceptibility tests were determined by Kirby-Bauer method, all of them were sensitive to Imipenem (Imp). Ten strains were chosen for the present study, they were resistant to Ampicillin (Amp), Amoxicillin (Amo),

Derivatives spectrophotometric techniques were developed for the determination of Amoxicillin Trihydrate (Amox) with Potassium Clavulanate (PC) antibiotic binary mixtures. The simultaneous determination of these compounds was accomplished by derivative (1D, 2D and 3D) spectrophotometric technique and applying zero-crossing technique used for determination of (Amox) and (PC) in tablets. The second order derivative absorption spectra at valley λ=299 nm were used for (Amox) and also the second order derivative spectra at peak λ=239.5 nm were used for (PC). No interferences were found between both

Due to the differences in raw materials and production processes, the quality of the same type of drug produced by different manufacturers is different. In drug supervision, determining the manufacturer can help to trace drug quality issues. In this study, a method for the quick identification of drug manufacturers based on laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) was proposed for the first time. We obtained the LIBS spectra from 12 samples of three types of penicillin (phenoxymethylpenicillin potassium tablets, amoxicillin capsules, and amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium tablets) produc

A 6 yr old, male, neutered Weimaraner was treated homeopathically for nasal aspergillosis after failing to respond to two treatments of topical (intranasal) clotrimazole and oral amoxicillin trihydrate/clavulanate potassium. Computed tomography, rhinoscopy, fungal culture, and cytology previously confirmed the diagnosis. At presentation for homeopathic treatment, the dog had aggressive left-sided sinusitis and rhinitis with destruction of nasal turbinates and severe bouts of epistaxis. Erosion and depigmentation of the nasal planum were evident. After two treatments with homeopathic aurum meta

Bite-transmitted tularemia is a rare event in humans and most of the cases have been associated with cat bites. We report the first pediatric case of tularemia caused by a coyote (Canis latrans) bite. Coyotes can be healthy carriers ofFrancisella tularensisand transmit this infectious agent through a bite. Pediatricians should be aware of this risk after a carnivore bite and implement appropriate antibiotic therapy, as amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium (Augmentin) may have prolonged the typical two to three days’ incubation period commonly observed for tularemia after an animal bite and was no

Bradycardia is defined as heart rate less than 60bpm in adults (Normal heart rate is 60-100bpm in adults). There are many causes of bradycardia including medications which can cause mild to severe depression in heart rate even leading to cardiac arrest and death. Here is the case of an elderly man with no pre-morbid condition who took moxifloxacin for the treatment of acute rhinosinusitis. He developed dizziness and generalized fatigue on second day of antibiotic treatment.
