Streszczenie:
Background. Duhuo Jisheng Decoction (DHJSD) is an ancient compound widely used in the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis (AS). However, its efficacy is controversial, and its mechanism of action is not clear enough. Using meta-analysis and network pharmacology, our study evaluated the clinical efficacy of DHJSD in the treatment of AS and explored its mechanisms of action. Methods. We searched medical databases, including Embase, PubMed, the China National Knowledge Infrastructure databases, Wanfang, and the Chinese Scientific Journal Database, to identify studies that met the inclusion criteria. RevMan 5.3 software was used for the meta-analysis. The compounds and the potential protein targets of DHJSD were obtained from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology (TCMSP) database and analysis platform. AS was treated as a search query in the NCBI, PharmGKB, TTD, DrugBank, and OMIM databases to obtain disease-related genes. The overlapping targets of DHJSD and AS were identified, and then Gene Ontology functional enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes enrichment analyses were performed. Cytoscape was employed to construct a drug-compound-target network and a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network. CytoHubba was utilized to select the hub genes. Results. A total of 10 studies involving 860 participants were included in the meta-analysis. Compared with the control, DHJSD treatment significantly improved clinical symptoms; reduced the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), the C-reactive protein (CPR), and interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels; increased the degree of motion of the chest; reduced the visual analog scale (VAS) pain score; reduced Schober’s test values; reduced the finger-to-floor distance; reduced the duration of morning stiffness. However, the differences were not statistically significant in the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index scores, the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index scores, the bone Gla-containing protein (BGP) levels, or the bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP) levels. In terms of adverse events, DHJSD treatment of AS reduced the incidence of gastrointestinal events, the incidence of skin events, and the incidence of abnormal liver function; however, there was no statistically significant reduction in the incidence of adverse renal function events. Subgroup analysis showed that in the treatment of AS, the clinical effect of DHJSD for AS was better than that of the controls for both treatment durations, ≤2 months and >2 months. A total of 178 active compounds and 47 related potential targets were identified for DHJSD in the treatment of AS, including four hub genes (CXCL8, PTGS2, VEGFA, and STAT3). The core active ingredients of DHJSD in the treatment of AS were mainly quercetin, kaempferol, licochalcone A, and isorhamnetin. DHJSD treatment of AS-related pathways mainly involved the IL-17 signaling pathway, the TNF signaling pathway, and the rheumatoid arthritis signaling pathway. Conclusion. The above results suggest that DHJSD acts on AS through multiple targets, components, and pathways with significant clinical efficacy. Future studies may further explore the active components of DHJSD.

Streszczenie:
Abstract Galatians 3:28 has often been compared and contrasted with ancient conceptions of “cosmopolitanism.” However, the present study takes a modern, etic approach to the definition of term, based on the longitudinal investigation of historical trends by a Cambridge working group. Seen from that vantage point, Paul’s declaration in Gal 3:28 can be described in terms of the “political cosmopolitanism” that is characteristic of empire-builders in the Ancient Near East and the Mediterranean. At the same time, Gal 3:28 is rooted in Paul’s Jewish apocalyptic worldview, especially as exemplified in the Enochic tradition, which had already been interacting with the political cosmopolitanism of pagan empires for centuries.

This research tackles the issue of glass covering structures as protection for archaeological sites. The choice of this subject was influenced by the following considerations: the last decades have been characterized by an increase in protective transparent covering structures; the use of protective covering structures in archaeological contexts and what constitutes their design has been, and continues to be, a highly debated subject among experts around the world; constant innovation in glass continues to increase its possibilities in architecture. This material has many advantages such as apparent lightness and transparency, but in archeology it raises issues related to protection, preservation, enhancement of ruins and public use. The aim of the research was to develop some basic criteria for design and construction of glass covering structures, verifying the relationship between ruins, protective structures and microclimatic conditions.

From this founding in 689/8 B.C. Gela, a sicilian polis, began the occupation of their territory - the khóra - around the urban center - the ásty. In the sixth century B.C. this occupation reached its maximum, extending through the valleys of the rivers Salso, Gelas-Maroglio and Dirillo, and through the montainous region north the Geloan Plain; when in contacted whith natives populations and with other Greeks established in the frontiers. It is remarkable the relationship between the definition of this territory that the geloans sought to occupy - with intentions of agrarian use - and the founding of sanctuaries. What we see in various balkan and colonial poleis, but that much more visible in the apoikias, Gela especially. As is noteworthy the relationship between these sanctuaries and the geloan political life.
The representation of the gods in ancient Greek literature is characterized by laughter and humour. This aspect of the description and configuration of the divine world embraces a wide chronological arc, and becomes the object of elaboration and investigation by poets, intellectuals and philosophers, over several centuries. Laughter is a fundamental and recursive component in the representation of both gods and men. It connects mortals and immortals, and at the same time it defines the perimeter of divine figures. In literary sources related to the genre of the epic, gods, like men, laugh and smile; they use irony and sarcasm, resort to humorous jokes that amuse other gods and, in some cases, the audience to whom the songs are addressed. The representation of the Olympic world in the Iliad and in the Odyssey is marked by the laughter and smile of the gods. This is the famous case of the episode of Hephaestus in Book I of the Iliad and the equally famous story of the adultery of Ares and Aphrodite in Book VIII of the Odyssey. Hephaestus, ugly and lame, improvises himself as a cupbearer, a role destined to beautiful and young immortals, and he thus triggers the laughter of the other gods. Being inadequate in relation to the assigned task, and also from an aesthetic point of view, is a mechanism of laughter that works for both gods and men, as illustrated by the case of Thersites. In the Song of Ares and Aphrodite, the gods mock the couple of lovers caught in the act of adultery and indulge in funny and licentious jokes, as if they were men. In Homer's work, the gods are represented in all their power but also with all their weaknesses: this ambivalence is at the origin of the pleasure that the ancient public felt when listening to these stories, as various sources attest. The Comedy and the satyric drama in turn exasperate the anthropomorphism of the gods; the authors exploit this paradox, reducing as much as possible the difference between men and gods. The complexity of the divine figures is thus the subject of a process of simplification and alteration that transforms the gods into true caricatures. The reduction of divine figures into stereotypical characters, characterized by several vices and weaknesses, sets the comic machine in motion. Alongside the homeric episodes and the representations of the gods on the comic scene, we must not forget, finally, the openly parodic representation of the homeric gods in the Batrachomyomachia, and Lucian's humorous criticism of the secular configuration of the divine world, built by poets and philosophers. The humorous and comic representation of the divine is the symptom of a playful dialectic between gods and men, of a joyful and amusing attitude of man towards the religious. This attitude clearly differs from the real act of derision of the divine, illustrated by certain myths and duly sanctioned. The comic, humorous and parodic forms of representation of the Olympic world therefore seem to indicate clearly a choice of articulation of the divine sphere which does not reject but considers laughter as a fundamental tool to reflect on the gods and, consequently, on their relationship with men

To date, a definition of that bunch of studies called antiquarian is incomplete, both on an epistemological level and on an historiographical one. Particularly, for the Modern Age the event of an antiquarian praxis’ extraordinary spread during the XVIII century has yet to be supplemented by local studies’ contributions. Along with the other sectors of Italian antiquary, the Kingdom of Naples’ one consists of a dense substrate of provincial erudition waiting to be recovered. At the same time, the investigation of the local antiquarian practices helps to bring out the contribution of this kind of studies to the development of ancient landscape concept. Within this perspective, after a necessary introductory framework on historiographical addresses appeared around the idea of antiquary and on the specificities of eighteenth-century Neapolitan erudition, there will be an analytical survey of the work of three Apulian antiquarians: Natale Maria Cimaglia (1735-1799), Emmanuele Mola (1743- 1811) and Domenico Forges Davanzati (1742-1810). Through their writings we will define the advancements locally achieved by the antiquarian discipline, as for methods and aims. Particular attention will be given to their collection of material evidence which have helped to establish varied portrayals of local ancient landscapes. Moving within the traditional chorographic genre, these descriptions, along with usual laudatory purposes, took increasingly on scientific nature or were aligned to a philosophical quest for truth.

The study of the ancient road to the archaeological site of Saint-Romain-en-Gal (Rhône), conducted for twenty-five years, helped to highlight the essential role of the Portico street in the development of this area of Antique Vienna, on the right bank of the Rhône. Across the plain from west to east, the street would strop abruptly on the bank of the Rhône opposite the ancient heart of the capital of the Allobroges, raised the issue of crossing the river. The number of bridges attributed to the Roman era has seen changes over time. An important historiographical research has been conducted to determine actual knowledge clues proving the presence of one or more works of ancient art at the height of Vienna, duplex urbs. But to understand their logic implementation, it took also follow the genesis of installing newer crossing points that were subject to the same topographical and urban and ancient books constraints. It appears from this study that two bridges can be attributed to the Roman era. The third, more monumental, stone bridge, seen in the collective memory as the roman bridge in the city, however, seems to go back to the High Middle Age

Streszczenie:
abstract: This dissertation uses the narrative practice of chorography as a genre for assessing the history of placemaking in the Salt and Gila River region of central Arizona from the late seventeenth century through the mid-nineteenth century. Chorography concerns the descriptive representation of places in the world, usually of regions associated with a particular nation. Traditionally, chorography has served as a written method for describing geographical places as they existed historically. By integrating descriptions of natural features with descriptions of built features, such as ancient ruins, chorography infuses the physical landscape with cultural and historical meaning. This dissertation relies on a body of Spanish- and English-language chorographies produced across three centuries to interpret how Euro-American descriptions of Hohokam ruins in the Salt and Gila River valleys shaped local placemaking. Importantly, the disparate chorographic texts produced during the late-seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries reflect ‘discursive continuity’—a continuity of thought spanning a long and frequently disregarded period in the history of central Arizona, in which ruminations about the ruins of ancient cities and irrigation canals formed the basis for what people knew, or thought they knew, about the little-known region. When settlers arrived in the newly-formed Arizona Territory in the 1860s to establish permanent settlement in the Salt and Gila River valleys, they brought with them a familiarity with these writings, maps, and other chorographical materials. On one hand, Arizonans viewed the ancient ruins as literal evidence for the region’s agricultural possibilities. On the other hand, Aztec and Cíbola myths associated with the ruins, told and retold by Europeans and Americans during the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries, offered an imaginative context for the establishment and promotion of American settlement in central Arizona.

Streszczenie:
abstract: Patterns of social conflict and cooperation among irrigation communities in southern Arizona from the Classic Hohokam through the Historic period (c. 1150 to c. 1900 CE) are analyzed. Archaeological survey of the Gila River Indian Community has yielded data that allow study of populations within the Hohokam core area (the lower Salt and middle Gila valleys). An etic design approach is adopted that analyzes tasks artifacts were intended to perform. This research is predicated on three hypotheses. It is suggested that (1) projectile point mass and performance exhibit directional change over time, and weight can therefore be used as a proxy for relative age within types, (2) stone points were designed differently for hunting and warfare, and (3) obsidian data can be employed to analyze socioeconomic interactions. This research identifies variation in the distribution of points that provides evidence for aspects of warfare, hunting, and the social mechanisms involved in procuring raw materials. Ethnographic observations and archaeological data suggest that flaked-stone points were designed (1) for hunting ungulates, or (2) for use against people. The distribution of points through time and space consequently provides evidence for conflict, and those aspects of subsistence in which they played a role. Points were commonly made from obsidian, a volcanic glass with properties that allow sources to be identified with precision. Patterns in obsidian procurement can therefore be employed to address socioeconomic interactions. By the 18th century, horticulturalists were present in only a few southern Arizona locations. Irrigation communities were more widely distributed during the Classic Period; the causes of the collapse of these communities and relationships between prehistoric and historic indigenes have been debated for centuries. Data presented here suggest that while changes in material culture occurred, multiple lines of evidence for cultural continuity from the prehistoric to Historic periods are present. The O'Odham creation story suggests that the population fluctuated over time, and archaeological evidence supports this observation. It appears that alterations in cultural practices and migrations occurred during intervals of low population density, and these fluctuations forced changes in political, economic, and social relationships along the middle Gila River

This thesis examines the so called “Antiochene Incident” (Gal 2:11-14) as it relates to the proclamation of Christ in early Christianity and the relationship between Paul and Peter. After a broad survey of research, the thesis focuses on the exegetical study of Galatians 2:11-14 with the goal of analyzing the encounter between Paul and Peter in its cause, its detailed course and the resulting consequences for the development of early Christianity. In addition to the context and the rhetorical function of Gal 2:11-14, we compare Paul's description and assessment of the Antioch incident and the portrayal of the history of early Christianity in the book of Acts. In doing so, we critically question the reconstruction of early Christianity by F. C. Baur as a divided theological movement which has influenced theology to this day and offer alternatives to that view.

Streszczenie:
A city is the locus of both sociocultural and physical-technical elements in a society. To begin to understand the importance of both kinds of factors, ancient cities are convenient examples to study, especially dead ones that do not “wiggle” under the microscope. By isolating one urban system (water management) we can begin to understand the complication and variability that characterize these early cities, and hence gain insight into the development of other urban systems, as well as the role that water management plays in the evolution of all cities. The received wisdom about the placement of cities usually rates defense as the primary factor, with access to arable land and concentration of trade activities being the other two important factors. A hill top, a protruding ridge, a peninsula or an isthmus between two rivers—all were sites easily defended by walls and hand weapons. Even a broad plain could be utilized if there were a slight rise that could be fortified, such as at the Mycenaean city of Tiryns in Greece. A city on a slight rise in the midst of broad fields of arable and irrigable soil was ideal. Such a formulation leaves out the possibility of deliberately choosing as a site a port city that tapped directly into grazing lands, or the importance of a balance of either fish or meat complementing cereals in the diet. It is more accurate to say that two kinds of food were necessary, either crops and fish or crops and meat. This concept broadens the number and kinds of “ideal” sites. Trade routes, the third factor, also are more complex in form and have more varied effects on urban location than early theories would admit. There are at least three kinds: 1. Overland routes (e.g., the Santa Fe Trail, with its two terminals at Independence, Mo., and Santa Fe., N.M., with Santa Fe being a crossroads where routes from Los Angeles and Mexico City also converged) 2. Land and water interchanges (the north-south land route through France crossing at Paris the east-west river route along the Seine) 3. Water-water interchanges such as New Orleans (Gulf of Mexico and Mississippi River) or Amsterdam (Rhine River and Atlantic Ocean)

Streszczenie:
The relationship between humans and the genus Prosopis in the arid lands of the New World is almost as ancient as human occupation itself. This chapter explores this in one particular part of these American drylands: the Sonoran Desert of the south-western United States or, to be more specific, within the riparian basins of the Salt and Gila rivers of that desert. For here, a more recent human ecology offers an analogue for the far deeper time-depths of the Peruvian south coast. In the Sonoran, and elsewhere in the United States, several species of section Algarobia of the Prosopis genus are known collectively as ‘mesquite’. Mesquite is the one of the most common plants along the washes of North American arid lands and was a vital resource for its peoples.

Streszczenie:
Himiko was a third-century ruler described only briefly by Chinese historians. In contemporary culture, she is cast as an elderly priestess, an adorable shrine attendant, or a vain sorceress. She morphs from ancient shaman in manga to ditzy gal in video games and anime. She is commodified and objectified in communities as a touchstone for local commerce and community character. Himiko is a rich resource for regional groups in need of a city mascot, beauty-contest theme, or touristic motif. She also appears in divination products and advertising to denote female power and ethnic spirituality. Himiko replaces the high priestess in tarot cards and is channeled by divination providers. This chapter explores these many reinventions of Himiko in order to track how her varied iconography encodes assumptions about gender and power.
