The chill-on-demand system is a technology designed to provide cooled products on demand, thereby avoiding any requirement for chilled storage. It uses the cooling effect provided by the endothermic desorption of carbon dioxide previously adsorbed onto a bed of activated carbon contained in an inner component of the self-chilling product. The increase in rates of obesity and overweight in the UK have been attributed, in part, to dietary factors. One possibility is caloric beverage consumption contributes to weight gain through weakened satiety and energy compensation. However, it is unclear if this claim applies to all beverage types and consumption conditions. This thesis investigated if the satiating effects of protein compared to carbohydrate are diminished in a between meal drink context.
