Bima Sandstone at Wuro-Dole and environs was studied for its level of maturity and source area (provenance). In evaluating its textual maturity and provenance, field mapping was carried out and representative samples were subjected to physico-chemical and mineralogical analyses. Representative sandstone samples from different formations such as the Bima Group (Lower, Middle and Upper Bima Sandstones), Yolde Formation and Dumbulwa Member of the Pindiga Formation in the study area were classified on the basis of their mineralogical compositions for sandstones. Samples 4, 5, 7, 24, 27, 28, 34, 35, 36, 38, 40 and 41a are classified as arkosic arenites due to the high percentage of feldspars and quartz than rock fragments in majority of the samples, whereas samples 12, 21, 25 are classed as lithic arenites because rock fragments have higher mineral aggregate than feldspar.

Provenance study of Bima group of the Upper Benue Trough around Wuyo village was carried out on fresh representative samples. The petrographic results suggest the sandstones to be arkosic arenites, the average composition of the three rock forming minerals as observed are; 40% quartz, 46% feldspar and 3% rock fragments. Kuchalli -1 well, one of the twenty-three exploratory oil wells drilled in the Nigerian sector of the Chad Basin penetrated a Cretaceous succession comprising the Bima, Gongila, Fika and Chad formations. Organic geochemical analyses were carried out to assess the source-rock potential of forty (40) selected ditch cuttings. Total Organic Carbon (TOC) content was found to vary between 0.5 – 2.0wt % (moderate to good) at a depth of 1700m and 2300m. The Liji area lithologically consists of inliers of granite and pegmatite members of the Pan-African granitoids surrounded by Cretaceous sedimentary deposits of Bima, Yolde, Pindiga and Gombe Formations. Epigenetic fracture-filling baryte mineralization hosted by granite, pegmatite and Bima Sandstone were delineated, sampled and analyzed for rare-earth elements (REEs) and stable sulphur isotope geochemistry.
