The chemical composition of asphalt binder is closely related to its macroscopic properties, and as an important road building material, its performance directly affects the service performance of asphalt binder pavement. Saturate, aromatic, resin, and asphaltene are the four most common chemical components of asphalt binders, collectively known as the SARA components. The SARA components are used to establish the corresponding relationship between the chemical composition and the macroscopic properties of asphalt binder, which is of great significance for further research on and development o

Demand for various bicycles and sharing systems has constantly been growing worldwide as they improve the quality of life and promote eco-friendly transportation. Construction technologies are among the most critical in terms of negative impact on the environment. Burnt binders, primarily cement and air-lime, emit significant volumes of carbon dioxide and man-made heat. At the same time, a large amount of hydrocarbon fuel is also consumed for their firing. Therefore, to achieve sustainable development goals, the development of alternative binder formulations or innovative ways to produce traditional binders with low carbon emissions is necessary. The synthesis of low-carbon binder compositions that provide the required properties is based on the use of

Lowering VOC and maintaining (or improving upon) high performance is often the goal when developing a new formulation, but the two objectives can be at odds with each other. Abstract Iron is soluble in reservoir waters which have high salinity and high hydrogen sulfide content. As the well produces, iron sulfide is precipitated due to the drop in pressure with the resultant increase in pH. The crystallites attach to the lower portion of the tubing, where either bimetallic or crevice corrosion occur beneath the crystallites. Gas condensate wells will deposit a high molecular weight material, such as asphaltene, on the iron sulfide crystallites as they deposit. Under these conditions the scale cannot be removed by hydrochloric acid, surfactants, or chelating agents.

Abstract. The use of Crum Rubber Modifier (CRM) with asphalt binders improves their properties by reducing their temperature susceptibility; this improvement is dependent on the way CRM and binder react with each other. The CRM particles tend to absorb some oils from asphalt binder and swell, resulting in a higher viscosity and thus stiffer binder. This paper discusses the effect of adding CRM to asphalt binder by applying three different percentages of CRM on two asphalt binders, viz., 60-70 and 85-100. Tungsten heavy alloys are liquid phase sintered two-phase materials in which tungsten grains are embedded in an austenitic base matrix. While the solubility of W in the binder phase is high both at sintering temperature, when the binder phase is liquid, and also after cooling, the solubility of the binder elements in the W phase is very low, but the exact content has been a matter of discussion for a long time. In the present study, laser ablation induction coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) has been employed for analyzing the Ni and Fe content in the W phase of W-Ni-Fe heavy alloys,

SMA is to be designed based on SMA volumetric properties in terms of air voids content (Va), voids in the mineral aggregate (VMA), and adequate stone-on-stone contact. For construction quality assurance (QA) purposes, INDOT currently accepts SMAs based on aggregate gradation and asphalt binder content. Thus, there is a discrepancy between SMA design criteria and construction acceptance. To better align design and construction, it is necessary to consider SMA volumetric properties in the use of QA. For HMA mixtures, INDOT has already transitioned from volumetric QA acceptance procedures to PWL.

Cold-recycling treatments are gaining popularity in the United States because of their economic and environmental benefits. Curing is the most critical phase for these treatments. Sufficient strength is required before opening the cold-treated layer to traffic or placing an overlay. Otherwise, premature failure, related to insufficient strength and trapped moisture, would be expected. However, some challenges arise from the la
