SummaryArgentina's annual camelid fibre production is estimated at 60 000 kg for llama (Lama glama), somewhat more than 2 000 kg for guanaco (Lama guanicoe) and about 845 kg for vicuña (Vicugna vicugna). The potential for increasing these amounts is huge considering that barely 30 percent of llamas are shorn and considering the size of the wild camelid population in the country. A compilation of published and unpublished work confirms that almost 50 percent of the llamas are single-coated, about 40 percent have white fleeces and that average fibre diameter is about 22 µm in the main llama prod

The economic, socio-political, and cultural significance of camelids in the Andean region is well-recognized, yet an understanding of their management evolution over pre-historical periods remains limited. This study aims to fill this gap by conducting the first cross-regional assessment of camelid pastoralism in Peru from 900 BCE to 1470 CE, using stable carbon and nitrogen isotopic compositions from the bone collagen and fibers of 577archaeological camelids across 21 sites. The llama (Lama glama) and the alpaca (L. pacos) form the group known as domesticated camelids. They belong to the family Camelidae of the order Artiodactyla (ungulates). They are separated from other ruminants in the infraorder Tylopoda (footed) because they differ in gastric morphology (three compartments), with the absence of antlers or horns, and replacement of hooves with callous pads ending in claws (Novoa and Wheeler, 1984). Camellias are tall, robust and the largest of the four camelid species. They are used to transport goods in Central and South America, where their meat is also used

There are more than 9 million South American camelids globally that make important contributions to the livelihoods of rural farmers through conversion of low quality roughages to high quality food and fibre. Reproductive biotechnologies for alpacas are not well developed compared with those for other ruminant livestock species. In particular, embryo cryopreservation technologies are lacking. The use of flaxseed oil made it possible to increase the digestibility of nutrients: crude protein - by 0.27%, crude fat - by 3.12%, crude fiber - by 0.25%. As a result, the cost of production of quail meat decreased by 12.11% compared to the control.
