The Atlantic Forest is the second largest South American tropical-subtropical rainforest and one of the most diverse ecosystems on earth. Hemimycena longipleurocystidiata, a fungal species collected in the Argentinean Atlantic forest, is proposed as new. It is characterized by its whitish and large basidiomata with large pleuro- and cheilocystidia. The species is here described and illustrated and a key is provided to the Hemimycena species known from Argentina.

Two macroscopically similar species of agarics with the unusual combination of corneous stipes and pigmented basal mycelium are the types of two new genera. Mythicomyces is typified by Agaricus corneipes Fries, a species with roughened purple–brown basidiospores and brownish metuloidal hymenial cystidia. Stagnicola is typified by Phaeocollybia perplexa Orton, a species with smooth yellowish brown basidiospores and thin-walled cheilocystidia. Both types inhabit wet depressions in northern coniferous forests.
