The growth parameters of Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus and Chrysichthys maurus were estimated in Buyo Lake. The study covered 1070 individuals collected monthly between August 2019 and July 2020, including 630 Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus with sizes between 4 cm Ls and 55 cm Ls and 440 Chrysichthys maurus individuals with sizes between 12 cm Ls and 59 cm Ls. The values of L∞, K and Φ' are 69.35 cm; 0.78 yr-1 and 3.57 yr for Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus respectively. The longevity is 3.84 years with a To equal to -0.16 while in Chrysichthys maurus, the longevity is 4.68 years with a To equal to -0.

Abstract The proximate mineral compositions of Scomber scombrus, Pseudotholitus typus, and Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus in Lagos were analyzed using standard methods. Moisture content was 58.12%, 75.28%, and 74.68% respectively. Crude protein content was not significantly different among the species. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are organic contaminants, some of which are known to be toxic, carcinogenic and mutagenic for humans. These molecules are ubiquitous pollutants of the environment, and can contaminate foodstuffs such as fish. The aim of this study was to assess the level of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons contamination in the flesh of a species of freshwater fish, Chrysichthys nigrodigitatus, smoked and dried in the locality of Guessabo. Nine species of Bagridae were recorded and these accounted for 15.0% of the number and 24.4% of the weight of all fish captured.
