Purpose: Data decomposition and classification development for the management of telecommunication network configurations and for the formation of such data management process set with the use of special database which basis on, the formation of requirements for database subsystem projection given the consistency of data about a control object and the system capabilities for this object management. Systematization of configuration data, of configuration element attributes as well as their logical consistency with the processes of the control and management of a state in promising management system subsystems. Methods: Fundamentals of complex process management theory, information storage and presentation system theory, object-oriented projection methods, decomposition method for representing process logic and data analysis about control object as well as theoretic-set approach for describing data set. Results: Decomposition of the tasks has been obtained which are realized by the components of telecommunication network configuration management special database; data sets about configuration elements have been formed. The requirements for promising control system subsystem that embodies the functionality of special database for telecommunications network configuration element management have been presented. Trends for further research in the direction to develop algorithms and models of telecommunication network configuration management with the help of special database have been proposed. Practical significance: The obtained decomposition and classification of data for telecommunication network configuration management is characterized by unique approach and dedication to telecommunication network management system subsystem logical structure, required for promising projection, as well as allows to formulate requirements for modeling the processes of telecommunication network configuration element management.

We address a dynamic configuration strategy for teams of Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs). A team is a collection of UAVs which may evolve through different organizations, called configurations. The team configuration may change with time to adapt to environmental changes, uncertainty, and adversarial actions. Uncertainty comes from the stochastic nature of the environment and from incomplete knowledge of adversary behaviors. To each configuration, there corresponds a set of different properties for the UAVs in the team. The design for the configuration control problem involves a distributed hierarchical control architecture where the properties of the system can be formally analyzed. We do this in the framework of dynamic networks of hybrid automata. We present results from simulation to demonstrate different scenarios for adversarial response.

Purpose While innovative service systems may create substantial value for certain stakeholders, they often destroy value for others. This value paradox frequently leads to unsustainable service systems. The purpose of this paper is to explore the use of multiple theories to pinpoint and explain these value paradoxes, build a framework allowing potentially more sustainable value configuration of service systems and develop an agenda for future research. The framework is illustrated with examples from the hospitality industry. Design/methodology/approach The paper draws on prevalent theories and approaches, including service-dominant logic, business modeling, transaction cost economics, stakeholder theory, configuration theory and set theory, to develop a value configuration framework. Findings In a service system, the configuration of resources and relationships between these resources (i.e. the set of value propositions for various stakeholders of the system) determines which stakeholders will gain and which will lose and to what extent. For that reason, insight into the range of possible service configurations – or business models – will help decision makers consider the effects on various stakeholders, and, where possible, set their priorities right and make their businesses more sustainable. The research produces a rich research agenda. Research limitations/implications Examples from hospitality allow an in-depth examination of a range of dynamic configurational and technological innovations, but some idiosyncratic characteristics of the context may impede the wider applicability of the conceptual framework. Future research could complement this work by studying other service sectors. Practical implications The paper aims to provide decision makers in the service industry with a conceptual tool to explore, diagnose and, if needed, adjust the value configuration of their service operations. In practice, this tool may help explicate the service system configuration, thus helping managers determine their organizations’ desired positioning in terms of value creation and destruction, and to choose strategic directions by adapting configurations. Social implications Legislation and regulations are being adapted to various new service configurations. This paper attempts to – at least conceptually – distinguish different service configurations, allowing policy makers to identify the value trade-offs between stakeholders, including society at large. Originality/value Previous research focused primarily on value creation by innovative services and business models. Value creation for one stakeholder, however, could lead to value destruction for another. Taking this paradox into consideration may result in more open service ecosystems that explicitly consider sustainability and value implications in multiple dimensions and for a broader group of stakeholders.

A system engineer witnesses a couple of problems with manual configuration approach and an abundance of repetitive tasks which are time-consuming and are prone to human errors. Server configuration is a huge landscape that has to be maintained properly from the start. Hence, configuration management and provisioning tool like Ansible, Chef, Puppet or Salt are used. Ansible is one of the best open-source tools to automate and maintain the configuration. Ansible controls and configure nodes from a single machine. What makes it unique from other configuration management tool is that it makes use of SSH infrastructure and is very secure due its agentless property. Street vendors contribute to meeting people's needs, but not by their presence in public spaces. This dynamic is important, and attention is paid to street vendors' spatial configuration and management in public spaces. This study aims to learn more about the spatial configuration & management of street vendors in public spaces. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), with a search and analysis related to the spatial configuration and management of street vendors in public spaces in 35 journals in the last 10 years. This process shows that the spatial configuration and management of street vendors influence the dynamics of public spaces, creating diverse economic and social activities. So, the existence of a spatial configuration, and comprehensive management of street vendors in public spaces will minimize management problems in public spaces. This contribution provides knowledge for sustainable urban planning and the development of policies that consider spatial configurations to accommodate the management of street vendors in public spaces.

This paper makes an important contribution to insights into information systems depending on value configurations. The final section of this paper suggests that industrial management might expand from value chain management to value shop management, as firms become electronic businesses.

The article presents conceptually scientific and methodological principles of agricultural management on the basis of Information Technologies. It has determined the main directions of using Information Technologies in Agricultural Manufacturing. It has systematically investigated the manufacturing by agricultural producers, and it has determined and stressed the main functions and relationships between the two systemic parts – technical and technological as well as organizational and technical. There have been determined the hierarchical structure of the configuration for the husbandry systems. It was explored that this configuration consists of nine main parts, and which of them have their own configuration. It was a conceptually determined processes of architecture management of agricultural programs (portfolios) and the configuration of agricultural products. The developed structural and project approach to configurations management of systemic parts for agricultural manufacturing is the part of scientific and methodological principles of this manufacturing management using Information Technologies.

El objetivo de este proyecto consistió en la implementación de “ITIL Configuration Management TI” en una empresa en San Luis Potosí, con base al marco de referencia de la Biblioteca de Infraestructura de Tecnología de la Información (ITIL®) y enfocado específicamente al proceso de Gestión de Configuración y Activos, para resolver la problemática de la reestructuración de la Base de Datos de Gestión de la Configuración (CMDB), la cual se encontraba con datos limitados y sin actualización; con la cual, se hizo más eficiente la detección de mantenimiento preventivo, correctivo, así como la detección de obsolescencia de los activos; en consecuencia, se brinda un mejor servicio al cliente y la organización optimiza sus recursos. Asimismo, se realizó la documentación de varios procesos para el seguimiento y ciclo de vida de los elementos de configuración (CI´s), ya que la falta de estos procesos estaba causando inconsistencias en inventarios físicos.

AbstractSystems Engineering and Configuration Management are essential ingredients in development of complex, safety‐critical systems of today. However, our experience within the fighter aircraft industry shows different understanding of how to best manage and control development between the Systems Engineering and Configuration Management communities. This is particularly true when a system is developed incrementally, and where there are multiple concurrent change‐controlled development activities. Using the 4‐box development model as a basis for incremental development, the paper highlights the nature of development planning and Configuration Change Management. Three types of change items are identified, to capture the needs to handle: 1) Long‐term, static changes with a large scope to be agreed with the stakeholders. 2) Short‐term, dynamic changes with small scope for each development team. 3) Short‐term, static changes with a varying scope depending on what is available for integration into a specific product configuration. Finally, this model of handling changes is exemplified by a toy example, showing the relationships between the changes and flexibility in handling re‐planning during the long‐term development. With the proposed approach, we hope to narrow the gap between the Systems Engineering and Configuration Management communities.

The PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) is often defined as a set of functions and procedures which allows one to manage and to exploit the data defining at the same time the products and the processes implemented for their developments. However, the installation of a PLM solution remains a difficult exercise taking into account the complexity and the diversity of the customer requirements as well as the transverse utilization of this solution in all the company’s’ functions. The issues faced by both editors and integrators of PLM applications arise from the specific aspect of customers’ projects, even tough most functional needs are often generic. In this paper we are focused on product modeling in PLM applications, more particularly on configuration management that traces product evolutions throughout its lifecycle. we will insist on the links between the configuration needs and the multi-view approach models and we release problems related to PLM applications deployment. Our work concerns the PLM generic solutions based on the concept of generic models. This generic model takes into account the configurations specification associated to the managed product and can be extended to cover specific needs.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the interplay between configuration dimensions (network structure, network flow, relationship governance, and service architecture) of last-mile supply networks (LMSN) and the underlying mechanisms influencing omnichannel performance. Design/methodology/approach Based on mixed-method design incorporating a multiple embedded case study, mapping, survey, and archival records, this research involved undertaking in-depth within- and cross-case analyses to examine seven LMSNs, employing a configuration approach. Findings The existing literature in the operations management (OM) field was shown to provide limited understanding of LMSNs within the emerging omnichannel context. Case results suggest that particular configurations have intrinsic capabilities, and that these directly influence omnichannel performance. The study further proposes a taxonomy of LMSNs comprising six forms, with two hybrids, supporting the notion of equifinality in configuration theory. Propositions are developed to further explore interdependencies between configurational attributes, refining the relationship between LMSN types, and factors influencing omnichannel performance. Practical implications The findings provide retailers with a set of design parameters for the (re)configuration of LMSNs and facilitate performance evaluation using the concept of fit between configurational attributes. The developed model sheds light on the consequential effects when certain configurational attributes are altered, preempting managerial attention. Given the global trend in urbanization, improved LMSN performance would have positive societal impacts in terms of service and resource efficiency. Originality/value This is one of the first studies in the OM field to critically analyze LMSNs and their behaviors in omnichannel retailing. Additionally, the paper offers several important avenues for future research.

The paper scrutinises three particular transport and logistics configurations: the de-centralised coordinated configuration, the on-site coordinated configuration and the supply network coordinated configuration. Design/methodology/approach Three configurations are derived from the literature and from case studies. The efficiency of the three configurations is analysed on three levels of analysis: the construction site, the supply chain, and across supply chains and construction sites. Findings The paper concludes that there are possibilities to enhance efficiency on all three levels of analysis by widening the scope of coordination beyond the individual construction site. Practical implications The analysis points to efficiency potentials in applying the supply network coordinated configuration, although this configuration puts high demands on collaboration amongst the actors involved. Originality/value The paper provides illustration, and explanation, of the efficiency potentials involved in the three configurations.

The configuration approach to the study of organizations is enjoying increasing popularity, in part, due to the methodological advances of qualitative comparative analysis. I argue that there are significant contrasts between earlier taxonomic clustering and typology approaches to configuration and the newer ones being pursued with the qualitative comparative analysis methodology. I compare the two approaches and their application, arguing that what is missing in many studies, old and new, often due to the lack of qualitative evidence, is “configuration itself”—that is, contrasting common, thematic, and rich characterizations that provide insight into how organizations function.

In Software Product Line (SPL), Configuration Management (CM) is a multi-dimensional problem. On the one hand, the Core Assets that constitute a configuration need to be managed, and on the other hand, each product in the product line that is built using a configuration must be managed, and furthermore, the management of all these configurations must be coordinated under a single process. Therefore, CM for product lines is more complex than for single systems. The CM of any software system involves four closely related activities: Change Management (ChM), Version Management (VM), System Building (SB) and Release Management (RM) [I. Sommerville, Software Engineering, 9th edn. (Addison-Wesley, 2010)]. The aim of this paper is to provide ChM and VM models for evolutionary-based SPL system development and maintenance. The proposed models support any level of aggregation in SPLs and have been applied to Mobile SPL as a case study.

Configuration management (CM) is now an essential component of the scalable systems of today, particularly when organizations are seeking to accelerate deployment processes and reduce development effort. Evolution in DevOps practices, cloud-native environments, and automation tools has revolutionized configuration management in different ecosystems. However, with these advancements, there are still issues such as configuration drift, management of a single cloud, multiple clouds with compatibility, as well as manual intervention in complex environments. While Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and GitOps have significantly improved the automation of updating configurations, the need for predictive and real-time management solutions is largely in a state of incompleteness. This paper seeks to bridge the research gap that exists by exploring the recent advancements, such as the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) for predictive configuration management, the role of blockchain technology in integrity and transparency, and the use of cloud management platforms for centralized configuration management. While various studies focus on the newest technologies for automating specific aspects of configuration management, few explore the integration of these new technologies into an end-to-end, holistic solution which can dynamically adapt to the evolving demands of scalable systems. Moreover, little research explores the possibility of service meshes and container orchestration in simplifying the hassle of configuration management in large-scale distributed systems. The research highlights the benefit of integrating AI-driven models, automation tools, and decentralized technologies to improve configuration management processes. This approach not only accelerates deployment but also increases system stability and scalability. Addressing the gaps in the current research body, this study brings new insights into how modern configuration management tools reduce the need for manual intervention, increase automation, and facilitate faster, more efficient deployment in scalable systems.

Due to high heat generation within closely packed smart electronic devices, some efficient thermal management systems are required for their reliable performance, avoid overheating, long lifecycle and safety. In this study, a novel thermal management system based on forced air cooling having three airflow configurations is developed to explore the thermal characteristics of each configuration. A customized cavity is designed to have provision for three airflow configurations (axial, cross, and reverse flow) and temperature profiles are investigated within the cavity for each configuration. The experiments are performed at three heat generation rates, i.e., 10 W, 20 W, and 30 W to analyze the cooling effectiveness at a variable heat generation rate. It was observed that the maximum temperature within the setup increases with the increase in heat generation rate. In axial flow air configuration, cavity temperature has been reduced remarkably by 69 and 82.4% at 10 W and 30 W, respectively. Second to axial flow, cross flow configuration performs better than reverse flow and an overall 65.7~78.6% temperature drop is obtained compared with enclosed cavity from 10 W to 30 W, respectively. Furthermore, a similar cooling rate trend in the cavity is obtained for an increased heat generation rate in the cavity.

One significant decision in supply chain management is to determine the configuration of the supply chain network. However, studies that analyze different configurations are rare in the literature. This paper considers a supply chain network consisting of one supplier and a number of retailers. Two different configurations were proposed and were compared in terms of total cost for the network. In the first configuration, retailers directly order to the supplier and hold the inventory to meet the demand of customers. However, in the second configuration, a number of intermediate facilities were established to order products from the supplier and satisfy the demands of retailers. The inventory of retailers in the latter configuration is stored in the intermediate facilities. These two configurations were compared in terms of total cost. Numerical calculations indicate that the latter configuration was preferred in most cases.

Microgrids are considered a practical solution to revolutionize power systems due to their ability to island and sustain the penetration of renewables. Most existing studies have focused on the optimal management of microgrids with a fixed configuration. This restricts the application of developed algorithms to other configurations without major modifications. The objective of this study is to design a rule-based modular energy management system (EMS) for microgrids that can dynamically adapt to the microgrid configuration. To realize this framework, first, each component is modeled as a separate entity with its constraints and bounds for variables. A wide range of components such as battery energy storage systems (BESSs), electric vehicles (EVs), solar photovoltaic (PV), microturbines (MTs), and different priority loads are modeled as modules. Then, a rule-based system is designed to analyze the impact of the presence/absence of one module on the others and update constraints. For example, load shedding and PV curtailment can be permitted if the grid module is not included. The constraints of microgrid components present in any given configuration are communicated to the EMS, and it optimizes the operation of the available components. The configuration of microgrids could be as simple as flexible loads operating in grid-connected mode or as complex as a hybrid microgrid with AC and DC buses with a diverse range of equipment on each side. To facilitate the realization of diverse configurations, a hybrid AC/DC microgrid is considered where the utility grid and interlinking converter (ILC) are also modeled as separate modules. The proposed method is used to test performance in both grid-connected and islanded modes by simulating four typical configurations in each case. Simulation results have shown that the proposed rule-based modular method can optimize the operation of a wide range of microgrid configurations.

Nowadays, we are surrounded by a large number of IoT (Internet of Things) devices and sensors. These devices are designed to make life easier and more comfortable. Blockchain technology, especially its mass application, is becoming a term number one. Adoption of blockchain into enterprise networks still has a few challenges that need to be tackled. Utilizing blockchain can bring increased security and efficiency of network maintenance. The key feature of the blockchain, immutability, brings resistance to unauthorized modifications. The whole history of device configuration changes is stored in the blockchain, hence recovery after incidents is very straightforward. This paper extends our previous studies. We are introducing an improved architecture for management and monitoring of IoT devices using a private blockchain. The majority of the system is built on a chaincode, which handles CRUD (Create, Read, Update, Delete) operations as well as encryption and access control. Device configuration files are stored in the blockchain. When a modification occurs, the device downloads a new configuration in a simple manner. The chaincode receives notification whether setup was successful and this history is available for administrators. Our results show that such a system is possible and dissemination of configuration changes to IoT devices can be secured by the blockchain. The key novelty of our solution is a distributed management of configuration files of IoT devices in enterprise networks utilizing blockchain technology. This is essentially improving security and storage options for configurations in the blockchain.

A platform-based innovation ecosystem links multiple markets and their corresponding stakeholders for joint value creation and innovation around a platform, and it is critical for the platform sponsor to manage the configuration efficiently for maximized value and survival. Through a multi-case study, we propose a configurational framework for platform ecosystems to analyze multi-stakeholder business structures, boundary decisions and their relationships. We define the context as for-profit business networks that leverage a digital platform to create multi-sided market circumstances and to engage partners as well as customers in joint innovation and value creation. Empirically we study five small to mid-sized digital information and communication technology platforms and their ecosystems. The discoveries elaborate on the four characteristic configurations and activities involved in the platform ecosystem management, and show configurational differences between open, semi-open, and closed innovation ecosystems. We propose the value-network configurations for the ecosystem, upstream producer, downstream consumer, and partner driven scenarios. Contradicting the existing literature, we argue that complementarities are created by two different producer actors and the consumption is influenced by two different downstream actors. We also argue that an internal production platform can be considered a platform ecosystem for innovation in the case of the extensive use of external knowledge and resource sources. The results extend the understanding of a platform ecosystem as a multi-layered configuration, and show what are the roles of different functions in the multi-layered structure.
