Dazai Osamu (born Tsushima Shûji) was a post-WWII writer who wrote a number of works using a female narrator. This thesis research focused on the reasons as to why Dazai may have written using female narratives, taking into consideration the time period and social milieu in which he was writing, as well as his own personal history with women. In addition, the history of male authors utilizing female narratives was explored, as well as the ideas of gender in the Japanese arts. Dazai works were also compared with Tankizaki Junichirô's to see how the roles of women in their works differ. The four main Dazai works analyzed were "Magic Lanterns" ("Tôrô"), "The Schoolgirl" ("Joseito"), "December 8th" ("Jûnigatsu yôka"), and "Villon's Wife" ("Biyon no tsuma"). The conclusion was that Dazai was using female narrators as a different approach to further critiquing himself, with the female narrator being used to critique a Dazai-like persona in the works.

Toute l'oeuvre de l'écrivain japonais Dazai Osamu est au service d'une création de soi autoréflexive. Brouillant jusqu'à l'extrême les limites entre personne et personnage, sa littérature construit une figure auctoriale qui affirme sa légitimité en mettant constamment en question les codes de la fiction. Cette thèse aborde les multiples incarnations de « Dazai Osamu » à travers sa posture, concept qui permet de réunir la conduite et l'ethos par lesquels le personnage auctorial se met en scène. Celui-ci est ainsi abordé à travers son positionnement par rapport aux discours de son temps. L'identité chez Dazai s'élabore en effet en fonction des perceptions d'autrui : l'auteur n'existe que pour répondre aux attentes dont il fait l'objet. La posture conçue comme imposture débouche alors sur une quête existentielle qui interroge sa légitimité à être humain
Japanese writer Dazai Osamu's literature can be seen as an experiment in self¬creation. Through the use of metafictional reflexivity, the author states his legitimacy as a person made character by constantly challenging the rules of fiction. Dazai creates his identity as a mere reflection of the perceptions of himself he anticipates within the other's gaze. This thesis aims to analyze how "Dazai Osamu" emerges through multiple narrative incarnations by focusing on the notion of posture. Understood as the way an author positions him/herself within the discursive flux of his/her time, the notion allows us to consider the behavioral and linguistic elements which constitute literary self-representation as a whole. Within Dazai's literature, the "author" being only the sum of discourses held about him, posture is apprehended as imposture. His works reflect an existential quest about the meaning of being human

Osamu Dazai é um dos poucos escritores japoneses da primeira metade do século XX que emprega mulheres como narradoras. Procuramos explorar essa peculiaridade de seus textos comparando-os, embora brevemente, com aqueles de alguns de seus contemporâneos, como Yasunari Kawabata e Junichirô Tanizaki. Fazemos algumas incursões na ideia de feminilidade que permeava a sociedade japonesa no início do século XX e as transformações que ela sofre até o final da Segunda Guerra, pois acreditamos que essas mesmas mudanças na imagem do feminino também sejam refletidas pelos textos de Dazai. Analisamos alguns de seus textos com narradoras para observar o quanto elas se distanciam ou se aproximam dos ideais de feminilidade da sociedade da época. Por fim, também comparamos as figuras femininas de suas obras do pós-guerra com suas figuras masculinas, estas, muito parecidas com o próprio autor, presas do niilismo e em rota de autodestruição. Nossa intenção, em suma, é explorar, mesmo que de forma limitada, as relações entre a cultura da época e a literatura por meio da análise de alguns textos com narradoras de Osamu Dazai, bem como sublinhar o caráter peculiar dessas mesmas narradoras no interior das obras do autor e em relação aos textos de seus contemporâneos.
Osamu Dazai is one of the few Japanese writers from the first half of the 20th century in whose texts we find female narrators. We intend to explore, although briefly, this peculiarity comparing his texts with those written by authors like Yasunari Kawabata and Junichirô Tanizaki. We make some incursions into the idea of womanliness which permeated the Japanese society in the beginning of the 20th century and the changes which it undergoes until the end of the Second World War because we believe that the same changes in the female image are reflected in Dazais texts. We analyze some of his texts with female narrators to see how far or close they are to societys ideals of womanliness. Lastly, we compare the female characters of Dazais postwar texts with the male ones (who resemble the author himself in their nihilism and self-destructive tendencies). In short, our objective is to examine, even if not as comprehensively as we could wish, how the culture of the period and the literature are related by analyzing some texts with female narrators written by Osamu Dazai. We also hope to stress the uniqueness of these female narrators within the authors texts and in relation to those of his contemporaries.

Esta pesquisa visa analisar a estética do espaço e a estética literária empregadas na narrativa da obra Pôr-do-Sol, de Dazai Osamu, bem como resgatar a essência da cultura japonesa contemporânea de um Japão devastado pela Segunda Guerra Mundial, onde o autor expressa toda a sua sensibilidade poética. Este trabalho baseia-se na pesquisa biográfica de Dazai Osamu, com ênfase ao momento histórico que o autor testemunhou e onde realizou suas escritas, visando o levantamento da iconografia, pictografia e metonímia na linguagem de sua obra. Através deste estudo buscam-se os elementos que o enquadrem no gênero literário denominado Romance do Eu e as influências exercidas pelo Naturalismo europeu e movimentos sociais em sua carreira literária por meio da análise da hereditariedade, das influências do meio social no ambiente da obra e a estética literária empregada em sua técnica narrativa. O estudo desenvolvido demonstra as interferências ocidentais na Literatura Japonesa através da intertextualidade de obras japonesas e ocidentais, que dialogam entre si, e apresentam uma narrativa ao redor da estética do espaço na obra Pôr-do-Sol, retratando a essência humana, o irracional, as emoções, o onírico, as alegrias e desilusões inerentes a todos os seres humanos, principalmente na sociedade japonesa do período histórico do pós-guerra.
This research seeks analyze Dazai Osamu\'s spatial aesthetics and his literary style, which was used in his novel Setting Sun, besides to bring off essence of Japan Contemporary Culture, that was devastated in this country due to World War II. Another point of this study is the narrative aesthetics, where the writer expresses his poetic sensitiveness. This study is based on Dazai Osamu\'s autobiographic research, emphasizing a historical moment of Japan, which he witnessed and finished his writings despite of war; in his novel, Dazai aimed the language of: iconography survey, pictorial survey and metonymy language. This study will search for elements that fit in the literary genre named I Novel, as well as influences the writer suffered from European Naturalism and social movements in his literary carrier; Dazai analyzed the heredity and the influences of social means described in atmosphere of his work and the literary aesthetic (spatial) carried out in his narrative techniques. The study developed here points out western interference in Japanese literature, which can be noticed in the inter-textuality of literary works between west and east, that inter-act itself; therefore introduces a narrative related to spatial aesthetic in the Setting Sun which the writer describes the essence of human beings´nature such as: irrational feelings, the emotions, the day-dreams, the cheerfulness and disappointments, inherent in whole human beings, especially in the Japanese society in certain historical time after war.

O presente trabalho constitui um estudo sobre um conjunto de obras pertencentes ao gênero japonês de cunho autobiográfico denominado Romance do Eu, com o intuito de traçar características comuns a essas obras que sirvam como apontamentos para uma morfologia desse gênero surgido no início do século XX. Num primeiro momento, situamos o Romance do Eu no contexto histórico-literário do Japão e apresentamos as discussões de estudiosos japoneses na fase inicial de desenvolvimento dessa forma literária, além da visão de dois estudiosos estrangeiros sobre o gênero. Nesse percurso, traçamos ligações entre as obras estudadas com a repressão ideológica e o exercício da liberdade de expressão na postura acuada e resignada dos protagonistas, encontradas num conjunto de obras analisadas num segundo momento, que vão desde 1906, com a obra Futon (Acolchoado), de Tayama Katai, até o final da Segunda Guerra Mundial. Tais obras revelaram uma sensível e rica diversidade quando analisadas pelos elementos da narrativa que estruturam o texto, mas não foi possível encontrar textualmente aspectos que identificassem o protagonista da obra com seu autor. Na realidade, elas se mostraram uma forma velada de contestação ao sistema autoritário do Japão ao centrarem seu conteúdo em fatos da vida pessoal do autor e parodiarem os romances europeus introduzidos na época. Esse dialogismo do Romance do Eu desenvolve-se também no nível textual da obra de Dazai Osamu, intitulada Pôr-do-Sol, escrita em 1947, logo após a rendição do Japão e ainda sob a ocupação das tropas norte-americanas, incumbidas de iniciar a democratização do país. O estudo desenvolvido nesse terceiro momento mostra que o autor utiliza, ainda, outras formas literárias que privilegiaram a ficção na literatura japonesa, elabora personagens que são desdobramentos de si mesmo e que dialogam entre si e faz uso de diferentes formas narrativas, que se mesclam à intertextualidade de obras japonesas e ocidentais, criando, assim, uma obra que dispensa o rótulo de Romance do Eu e assegura a sobrevivência dessa forma narrativa na prosa moderna do Japão.
ABSTRACT From Katai to Dazai: Notes for Morphology of the Novel of the Self consists of a study on a set of literary works belonging to the autobiographical character Japanese genre denominated Novel of the Self, aiming at outlining common characteristics to these works that serve as notes for a morphology of this genre started in the beginning of the XX century. In a first instance the Novel of the Self is placed in the Japanese historical-literary context and the discussions of Japanese scholars in the initial development phase of this literary form are presented, as well as the vision of two foreign scholars about the genre. In this trajectory are outlined connections of the works studied with the ideological repression and the exercise of the freedom of expression in the cornered and acquiescent posture of protagonists, being these connections found in a set of works analyzed in a second instance, comprehending 1906 with the work of Futon (Quilt) by Tayama Katai, up to the end of the Second World War. Such works have revealed an insightful and rich diversity when analyzed by the elements of the narrative which structure the text, but aspects that could identify the work?s protagonist with its author have not been possible to find textually. As a matter of fact, they have revealed a veiled way of contest to the Japan?s authoritative way as they have focused their content on facts of the author?s personal life and parodied the European novels introduced at that time. This dialogism in the Novel of the Self is also developed on the textual level of the work of Dazai Osamu entitled Sunset, written in 1947, right after the surrender of Japan while under the occupation of the American troops charged with the task of beginning the country?s democratization. The study developed in this third instance reveals that the author uses, in addition, other literary forms that benefit the fiction in the Japanese literature, makes up characters that are developments of himself and that also talk among themselves, and makes use of different forms of narratives that merge to the intertextuality of Japanese and Western works, creating, as a result, a work that excuses the label of Novel of the Self and, assures the endurance of this narrative form in the Japans modern prose.

Denna uppsats består av två översättningar av den japanska författaren Osamu Dazais noveller Spring, Moerus! och Hundra vyer över Fuji från japanska till svenska samt en analys som ur ett litteratur-vetenskapligt perspektiv hjälper till att fastställa översättningsstrategin – att göra en adekvansinriktad och främmandegörande översättning. Översättningarna följs av en översättningsteoretisk kommentar som fokuserar på de tre problemområdena grammatik och lexikon, menings- och styckesstruktur samt passivering. Ett litteraturvetenskapligt perspektiv för källtextanalysen visar sig vara mycket tillämpbart för dessa texter på grund av deras genre, jag-romanen, som är typisk för japansk 1900-talslitteratur. Källtexterna och måltexterna finns med som bilagor.
This essay consists of two translations of the two Japanese short stories Hashire Merosu and Fugaku Hyakkei (in Swedish Spring Moerus! and Hundra vyer över Fuji) by the author Osamu Dazai from Japanese to Swedish. An analysis through a literary science perspective helps to establish the translation strategy, which is to make an adequate and foreignized translation. The translations are followed by a theoretical translation annotation which focuses on the issues of grammar and lexicon, sentence and paragraph structure along with the usage of the passive form. A literary science perspective on the source text analysis proves to be very applicable for these texts because of their genre, the I-novel, which is typical for 20th century Japanese literature. The source and target texts are available as appendixes at the end of the essay.

Dans le travail presente, nous n'avons pas aborde l'histoire de la pensee economique japonaise dans son ensemble. L'etude cerne l'epoque des tokugawa (1603-1868) ou la pensee economique proprement japonaise nait et se developpe jusqu'a un certain point. L'objet de cette these est de montrer ce qu'etait la pensee economique japonaise avant que l'influence des idees europeennes ne se manifeste. Dans nos recherches, deux parties essentielles se sont imposees. Une premiere esquisse l'histoire du confucianisme, tout d'abord en chine puis au japon, de ses origines jusqu'a son ultime developpement, le neo-confucianisme. Durant la periode des tokugawa, la plupart des "economistes" subissaient l'influence des idees chinoises et notamment celle du confucianisme. D'ailleurs, cette doctrine, et plus precisement celle du neo-confucianisme de zhu xi (j. Shushi-gaku), est devenue l'idee orthodoxe du gouvernement shogunal. Etudier les "economistes" de cette epoque dans leur contexte necessite donc cette phase preliminaire de connaissance du confucianisme. La deuxieme partie de ce travail s'interesse aux travaux de shundai dazai (1680-1747), economiste confuceen dont la pensee economique se presente comme relativement systematique par rapport a celles des autres economistes japonais contemporains. De plus, sa theorie n'est pas encore influencee par les idees nationales (koku-gaku) ou celles issues des etudes hollandaises (ran-gaku). A cet egard, sa theorie est vraiment fortement marquee par les idees du confucianisme. Sa pensee economique peut donc etre entrevue comme une sorte de pensee economique confuceenne. Avec shundai dazai et par le biais de ses theories, cette etude analyse le contenu de la pensee economique confuceenne
In the work we are presenting, we have not touched upon the history of the japanese thought as a whole. This study tries to determine the tokugawa epoch (1603-1868) when the economic japanese thought as such is born, and even increased to a certain extent. The object of this thesis is to show what the japanese economic thought was before the influence of european ideas manifested itself. In our research two essential parts were imposed. The first part outlines the history of confucianism, first in china and then in japan, from its origins until its ultimate development, the neoconfucianism. During the tokugawa period, most of the "economists" were submitted to the influence of chinese ideas and in particular those of the confucianists. In fact, this doctrine, and more precisely that of the neo-confucianism of zhu xi (j. Shushi-gaku), has become the orthodox opinion of the shogunal government. The study of the "economists" of this epoch in their true context requires this preliminary phase into the knowledge of confucianism. The second part of this study treats the works of shundai dazai (1680-1747). Economic thought of this confucian economist is relatively systematic compared to those of the other contemporary japanese economists. Besides, his theory is not yet influenced by national ideas (koku-gaku) or those which have come out of dutch studies (ran-gaku). In this view, his theory is truly and strongly influenced by the ideas of confucianism. His economic thought can hence be foreseen as some kind of confucian economic thought. With shundai dazai and through the approach of his theories, this study analyses the contents of the confucian economic thought

Nine Questions for the Dalai Lama is a DVD Rom that incorporates digital video documentary, video poetry, and written essays that call into question the theoretical framing that informed the practices and decisions that underscored The Dalai Lama Centre for Peace and Education's "Nurturing Compassion Vancouver Dialogues 2006." Although this event was conceived as a youth centred dialogue with the Dalai Lama, it was characterized by the educative practices of 'manageralism' (Fielding 2004) and revealed a 'risk consciousness' (Ericson & Haggerty 1997) at play in the managing of these dialogues. While appearing to collaborate with youth, these practices created a dominant cultural narrative that culminated in the censoring of a youth based documentary produced specifically for this event. The questions that appear as menu choices emerged from the author's involvement as the mentor/producer of the youth documentary team. What is real food and real water? Questions meanings of compassion. What were they doing? uses the theoretical underpinnings of the politics of communication to examine the event. What are we afraid of? is an essay that examines the troubling issue of the censorship of a video documentary that identifies the Dalai Lama as the spiritual and political leader of Tibet. This essay views this event through a lens informed from the writings of Arendt (1979) and Brueggeman (2001). Other menu choices on the dvd question through the medium of digital video the exploration of imaginative spaces as ways of knowing. Who are you and what happens next? Uses a video archive to look at the exclusion of the youth and includes the censored video. How to hold a hand? and Are you trying to tell me something? represent some of the other ways this experience of the event was realized and understood. Why listen to a dream? questions the ways we know through imaginative realization and awareness. This essay questions how the use of the imagination and awareness relates to the dominant narrative that characterized this event and to transformative educational practices.

Benito Daza de Valdés (1591-1634) fue un notable científico español que publicó en 1623 el libro “Uso de los Antojos” que es considerado el primer tratado de óptica fisiológica en el mundo. La refracción ha permitido mejorar la calidad de vida de millones de personas siendo las gafas la prótesis sanitaria más utilizada en el mundo y en este extraordinario invento Daza de Valdés ha sido una personalidad señera. Esta tesis reivindica el importante papel que ha desempeñado la óptica fisiológica en el desarrollo de la oftalmología y considera la refracción ocular como parte fundamental la oftalmología. En esta tesis se exponen las teorías de la visión desde la Antigüedad hasta el siglo XVII con especial dedicación a los autores citados en el libro Uso de los Antojos. También se presenta una breve historia de las gafas, se analiza el contexto histórico y cultural del tiempo de Daza de Valdés así como su biografía y un estudio exhaustivo del libro Uso de los Antojos. Las aportaciones más importantes en relación a la óptica fisiológica son: introducir el concepto de inversa de la distancia focal en la medición de los cristales refractivos que denominó grados (similar a la actual dioptría), hacer la primera descripción clínica de la hipermetropía, pionero en presentar el agujero estenopeico incorporado a las gafas, sistematizar la prescripción de gafas y la acertada idea que las gafas o antojos sólo sirven para las ametropías y que no pueden solucionar patologías oculares. Esta tesis también incluye un apéndice documental con las portadas de los libros citados en el libro Uso de los Antojos, las portadas de los libros que posiblemente consultó Daza de Valdés, una muestra de los cuadros y grabados en los que aparecen gafas hasta el siglo XVII, el primer documento escrito (1370) dónde se cita la palabra gafa (occhiali en italiano) y también copia de una carta del rey Felipe II pidiendo gafas de 1584.
Benito Daza de Valdés (1591-1634) was an outstanding Spanish scientist that in 1623 published the book titled “The use of Spectacles” (“Uso de los Antojos”), considered the first treaty on physiological optics ever written. Clinical refraction has been instrumental in improving the quality of life of millions of people and spectacles are the prosthetic aid most used in the world. Daza Valdes was instrumental to this extraordinary invention. This thesis vindicates the role that physiological optics has had in the development of Ophthalmology and proposes clinical refraction as a fundamental part of this discipline. This work discusses the different theories of vision from Antiquity to the 17th century with a focus on the authors cited in the book The use of Spectacles. It also provides a brief history of spectacles and analyses the historical and cultural context during Daza Valdes’s lifetime, his biography and provides an in depth study of his book The use of Spectacles. Daza’s book made some remarkable contributions to physiological optics. Amongst the most visionary are: Daza’s introduction of the concept of the inverse of the focal distance in the measurement of refractive lenses, which he called degrees and are a equivalent to the current dioptre; he described clinical hypermetropia for the first time; he pioneered the introduction of the stenopeic pin–hole in spectacles; he proposed the systematic prescription for spectacles and he correctly proposed that spectacles are only useful for correcting ametropia and do not remedy other ocular pathology. Included in this thesis is a documentary appendix including: the front covers of all the books quoted by Daza in his work The use of Spectacles, and of those books that he probably consulted; a selection of paintings and engravings depicting spectacles up to the 17th century; a copy of the first document from 1370 where the word spectacles is first cited (occhiali in Italian) and a copy of a letter from King Philip II of Spain requesting spectacles in 1584.

This study aims to find out how the writer relates to the reader and which are the strategies of persuasion adopted by him in a book of spiritual selfhelp. Taking into account the perspective of Askehave (2004), that consider the spiritual self-help as a genre and starting by the definition of Bakhtin (1992), who emphasizes the regularity of thematic , compositional and stylistic traces to characterize a genre. The research about the theme of spiritual self-help took into discussion the modern and post-modern topics and the characteristics of Budism.To the reflexion of the modern and post modern man, it was used the studies of Dumont (1985), Smart (1993), Bauman (1998) and Chagas (2001, 2002). To contribute with the description of the compositional aspects, it was selected Eggins (1996) and Askehave (2004), that have models of segmentation for the analysis of a whole book or to the texts that make part of it. In Charaudeau (2002) it was found the support for the description of the tecniques that reveal the style of the writer. To complete the model of Charaudeau (2002), it was used Kopple (1985), Fairclough (1994), Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca (1996), Reboul (2000) and Neves (2000). The results of the analysis showed a writer as a simple person and at the same time the one who knows the human needs, addressing to a reader that searches for happiness and interior peace. The themes through the analysis were revealed as related to the Budism sTen Perfections and to the situation of submission of Tibet to China. Through the analysis of the texts, it was noticed an author that was against the speed, the materialism and the individualism of modern and post modern life., advising the reader to put the Other as the target of the individual actions. The dialogue among religions was noticed through the preaching of the practice of compassion, kindness, love to the other, patience and forgiveness. To analyse the way of the organization of the texts, the attribution of titles to the messages and to the textual segmentations made possible to verify the procedures used by the author to spread his principles. In the presentation of concepts, vision and spiritual orientations, it was verified the recontextualization of strategies and metafors. In the application of Charaudeau s model related to the discursive strategies of the subject, it was noticed that the author uses different procedures of getting closer and farther of the audience.
Este trabalho tem por propósito descobrir como o escritor se relaciona com o público leitor e quais as estratégias de persuasão adotadas por ele em um livro de auto-ajuda espiritual. Leva em conta a perspectiva de Askehave (2004), que considera o livro de auto-ajuda espiritual como gênero e parte da definição de Bakhtin (1992), que salienta a recorrência de traços temáticos, composicionais e estilísticos para caracterizar um gênero. A pesquisa sobre o tema dos livros de auto-ajuda espiritual levou à discussão sobre modernidade e pós-modernidade e às características do budismo. Para reflexão sobre o homem moderno e pósmoderno foram utilizados os estudos de Dumont (1985), Smart (1993), Bauman (1998) e Chagas (2001, 2002). Para contribuir com a descrição dos aspectos composicionais, selecionamos Eggins (1996) e Askehave (2004), que têm modelos de segmentação para análise do livro inteiro e para os textos que o compõem. Em Charaudeau (2002) encontramos o suporte para a descrição das técnicas que revelam o estilo do escritor. Complementando o modelo de Charaudeau, utilizamos Kopple (1985), Fairclough (1994), Perelman e Olbrechts- Tyteca (1996), Reboul (2000) e Neves (2000). Os resultados da análise apontam para o escritor como uma figura simples e ao mesmo tempo conhecedora das carências humanas, dirigindo-se a um leitor que busca a felicidade e a paz interior. Os temas, ao longo da análise, relacionaram-se às Dez Perfeições budistas e à situação de submissão do Tibete à China. Através da análise dos textos, percebeu-se um autor contrário à rapidez, ao materialismo e ao individualismo da vida moderna e pós-moderna, orientando o leitor a colocar o Outro como alvo das ações individuais. O diálogo entre religiões foi percebido através das pregações à prática da compaixão, da bondade, do amor ao próximo, da paciência, do perdão. A atribuição de títulos às mensagens e de rótulos aos segmentos textuais possibilitou verificar os procedimentos usados pelo autor para divulgar seus princípios. Na apresentação de conceitos, visões e orientações espirituais, destacaram-se as recontextualizações e as metáforas. Quanto às estratégias discursivas, o autor utiliza procedimentos diferentes para aproximar-se e distanciar-se do seu público.

Som blivande gymnasielärare i religionskunskap så vet man att det kommer bli väldigt mycket fakta och tankar som ska formuleras till eleverna. Att ha olika läromedel som underlättar denna process är för mig välkomnande och läroböcker är inget undantag. Men kan

vi alltid lita på läroböckerna och texten som ska förmedla kunskap om en specifik person, så som Dalai Lama?

I skolan är det lärare och skolledare som är ansvariga för att verksamheten i skolan genomförs enligt läroplan och kursplaner. Det finns ingen statlig kontroll för vad som räknas

som en godkänd lärobok då denna granskning försvann 1991. Detta betyder att det är lärarens ansvar att granska de olika läroböcker som introducerad i skolan.

Dalai Lama är en andlig ledare som har figurerat mycket i olika medier men kan vi lita på att läroböcker framställer honom på ett korrekt sätt. Jag har valt att inrikta mig på Religionskunskap A på gymnasiet och läroböcker som är skrivna för denna kurs. Böckerna

som granskades är Relief A-plus från förlaget Gleerups Utbildnings AB, Människan och tro från förlaget Bonnier Utbildning, Religionskunskap från förlaget Liber läromedelsförlag, Religionskunskap för gymnasiet från förlaget Natur och kultur då de har en dominerande plats

på marknaden.

Genom min analys av läroböckerna har jag kommit fram till att samtliga böcker skriver sanningen om Dalai Lama men presentationen är så kort vilket gör att den presentationen kan missuppfattas. Av det som står skrivet om Dalai Lama så läggs det en allt för stort fokus på

Dalai Lama som en historisk person istället för att presentera Dalai Lamas filosofi och vad som gör honom unik från andra buddhistiska inriktningar. En lärobok väljer att inte nämna Dalai Lamas mottagande av Nobels fredspris och ingen av läroböckerna utvecklar Dalai

Lamas icke-våldsfilosofi, Tibets system av reinkarnerade ledare eller andra teologiska, filosofiska eller andliga tankar. Samtliga läroböcker som har granskats måste kompletteras med alternativa läromedel och kommentarer från läraren annars finns risken för feltolkningar.

Tibet has been under the administrative control of the People’s Republic of China since 1950. The Seventeen-Point Agreement for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet, signed in 1951, promised autonomy to Tibetans, as well as the freedom to practice their religion, Tibetan Buddhism. In practice, however, the PRC has not allowed this autonomy or freedom of religion to Tibetans within its borders. The identity of the Tibetan people is largely based on their strong religiosity, manifested in their reverence of their leadership institutions: the Dalai Lama and to a lesser extent, the Panchen Lama. As the PRC government has sought to suppress religion and control religious practices, it has exerted a stricter level of control over the religions perceived as ‘foreign,’ of which Tibetan Buddhism is one. This strict control of ‘foreign’ religions (specifically their leadership institutions) has manifested in the defamation and coercive manipulation of the Dalai and Panchen Lama institutions, in order for the Chinese Communist Party to maintain its control over Tibet. This thesis asks why the CCP perceives the control of these leadership institutions as necessary for achieving its broader policy goals. Through an in-depth review and analysis of relevant literature, this thesis will argue that the strong religiosity of Tibetans and the corresponding politico-religious power wielded by the Dalai and Panchen Lama leadership institutions are perceived as threats by the CCP. The power of Tibetan Buddhism and its leadership institution, as well as the identity they instill in Tibetans, threatens not only the CCP’s control over the resource-rich region, but also its legitimacy as the unique governing power over a secular, unified China. To the Chinese government in Beijing, allowing the Dalai and Panchen Lamas the freedom to return to Tibet, whether in body or just through the worship of Tibetan Buddhists, would be tantamount to losing its control over the entire region.

Baigiamajame magistro darbe atliktas įprastų ir UV dažų palyginamasis kokybės tyrimas. Atliktas įprastų ir UV dažų atspaudų spalvinių charakterisikų palyginimas esant D50 ir D65 šviesos šaltiniams, ištirtas spalvų spausdinimo stabilumas. Nustatyta, kad įprastųjų ir UV dažų galimų spalvų diapazonas yra artimas esant D50 šviesos šaltiniui ir akivaizdžiai skiriasi esant D65 šviesos šaltiniui, kas rodo skirtingą fluorescencinio komponento indėlį. Eksperimentiškai ištirtos popieriaus ofsetinių atspaudų trinties savybės ir nustatyti statinis ir kinetinis trinties koeficientai. Nustatyta, kad įprastiniai ir UV dažai didina atspaudo į popierių statitinio trinties koeficiento dydį ir mažina kinetinio koeficiento dydį. Atliktas dviejų rūšių popieriaus su įprastais ir UV dažais šiurkštumo palyginamasis tyrimas ir nustatyta, kad įprasti dažai atspaudų paviršiaus šiukštumą stipriai didina, o UV dažų poveikis priklauso nuo popieriaus rūšies. Išnagrinėjus teorinius ir praktinius įprastų ir UV dažų skirtumus, pateikiamos baigiamojo darbo išvados ir siūlymai. Darbą sudaro 6 dalys: įvadas, apžvalga, eksperimentinė dalis, rezultatai ir jų aptarimas, išvados ir siūlymai, literatūros sąrašas. In master of science thesis is investigated the quality of conventional and UV curable prints. Performed comparison between two types of inks color characteristics at illuminants D50 and D65 and examined colors printing stability. It was fund, that diapason of conventional and UV inks are more similar at illuminant D50 and it is significantly different at illuminant D65. Results mean, that fluorescence’s component is different in different type of inks. Experimentally investigated offset print’s friction properties and determined the static and kinetic coefficients of friction. Determined, that conventional and UV inks increase static friction coefficient and reduce kinetic friction coefficient between paper and print. Also, investigated two different types of paper and prints made with conventional and UV inks roughness properties comparison and determined, that conventional inks strongly increase roughness of prints surface and influence of UV inks depend on paper’s type. Structure: introduction, review, experiment, conclusions and suggestions, references. Thesis consists of: 67 p. text without appendixes, 59 pictures, 1 table, 15 bibliographical entries. Appendixes included.

This thesis presents a close iconographic and contextual study of a set of seven Tibetan thangka paintings depicting portraits of the First through the Ninth Dalai Lamas, currently in a private collection and dated to the nineteenth-century. Through this case study, I propose to situate the genre of Dalai Lama portraits within the larger context of Tibetan Buddhist practice by considering their role and function in merit-making activities. I propose that as visual reminders of the Dalai Lamas, these portraits can be considered a type of “relic” that is foundational to devotional practices in Buddhism. Specifically, this thesis will investigate portraits of Dalai Lamas within the framework of Buddhist relic traditions. As a secondary focus, the thesis will examine the artistic conventions through which the figures are rendered present, problematizing the notion of “portrait-likeness.”

The thesis analyzes the familiar biographical corpus and contrasts with the biographical corpus also generated by the figure of the Dalai Lama (Takster, 1935). Viene proposta un’analisi contrastiva di una limitata serie di articoli pubblicati sui maggiori quotidiani italiani (Il Corriere della Sera e La Repubblica) e cinesi (il Renmin ribao 人民日报 e lo Huanqiu shibao 环球时报) in un arco temporale che spazia da inizio 2018 a fine 2019. Gli articoli selezionati hanno la comune caratteristica di appartenere al genere d’opinione o commento, che nel contesto cinese è chiamato pinglun 评论, e di trattare il tema della “guerra dei dazi”, argomento che si presta a mettere in luce le tipicità del commento giornalistico. Dapprima sono illustrate le caratteristiche generali dell’articolo giornalistico di commento e la linea editoriale dei quotidiani presi in esame. Dopodiché si passa a un’analisi linguistica degli articoli selezionati che mira a dimostrare come la scrittura giornalistica realizzata attraverso il genere del commento costituisca un chiaro esempio di mescolanza di registri, evidenziabile attraverso scelte lessicali e sintattiche volte a vivacizzare la lingua anche in maniera innovativa. Nonostante l’analisi metta in luce alcune peculiarità di una particolare testata come accade per la questione della firma nella stampa cinese, tuttavia numerose sono le caratteristiche comuni presenti nel giornalismo italiano e cinese che emergono dal confronto, in particolar modo le coloriture lessicali e il linguaggio figurato, utilizzati per conferire alla scrittura giornalistica la massima espressività possibile.

Les Teda-Daza et les Beri vivent principalement dans le Sahara et le nord du Sahel tchadiens, ainsi qu'au Niger et en Libye (Teda-Daza) et dans la province du Darfour au Soudan (Beri). Ce sont essentiellement des éleveurs de dromadaires et de chèvres, et la faune sauvage, qui est précisément distinguée du bétail, a peu d'importance dans leur vie matérielle. Les produits de la chasse constituent une part négligeable de leur alimentation et la chasse n'est pratiquée que par des catégories particulières de la population, en particulier la caste inférieure des forgerons. Mais paradoxalement on constate une importance inattendue de l'animal sauvage dans la culture. Les Teda-Daza et les Beri ont une connaissance globale et précise de ces animaux sauvages qui leur sont matériellement peu utiles. Ces animaux sont les personnages de leur littérature orale, les protecteurs de leur clans et des êtres surnaturels qui jouent un rôle central dans les religions préislamiques. Néanmoins cette extraordinaire culture de la faune est en train de disparaître face à deux autres cultures venues d'ailleurs : l'islamisation et surtout l'occidentalisation, responsable aussi bien de la disparition des pratiques traditionnelles que de l'extinction même de la faune. Or cette culture, pour peu qu'elle soit prise en compte, pourrait jouer un rôle très positif dans les projets de conservation de la faune sahélo-saharienne
Teda-Daza and Beri peoples live mainly in the Chadian Sahara and Northern Sahel, as well as in Niger and Libya (Teda-Daza) and in the Sudanese Darfur (Beri). They are essentially nomadic camel and goat herders, and make a clear distinction between wild and domestic animals. Thus wildlife has little impact on their material daily life. Hunting products constitute a minor part of their food and hunting is operated only by very special parts of the population, mostly from inferior blacksmith cast. But paradoxically it seems that wildlife has un unexpected cultural importance to them. Teda-Daza and Beri peoples have a global and precise knowledge of a materially useless wildlife. Wild animals are characters in oral literature, protectors of clans and supernatural beings playing a central part in in Pre-Islamic cults. However, that extraordinary "wildlife culture" is disappearing under the pressure of two other cultures : Islam and, above all, Western modernity, that threaten both the traditional culture and wildlife itself. But were it taken into account, this culture could play a very positive role in wildlife preservation projects in the area

Akivaizdu, kad dėl didelės apdailos medžiagų bei pastatų funkcinės ir architektūrinės paskirties įvairovės, sunku pasirinkti geriausią fasado apdailą. Todėl baigiamojo magistro darbo tikslas yra apdailos medžiagų variantų palyginimas ir efektyvaus varianto parinkimas. Baigiamajame darbe išnagrinėtos kelios galimos apdailos alternatyvos, kurios pasižymi įrengimo technologijos paprastumu, nedidelėmis darbo sąnaudomis ir kitais privalumais. Palyginti trys gyvenamųjų, visuomeninių ir pramoninių pastatų išorės sienų (fasadų) apdailos įrengimo būdai: tinkavimas, dažymas, dengimas gatavais elementais. Išnagrinėti keli techniniu – ekonominiu požiūriu skirtingi apdailos medžiagų variantai iš kiekvieno apdailos įrengimo būdo. Naudojantis daugiakriteriniais vertinimo metodais bei programos paketu SPS_DS, nustatyti trys racionalūs apdailos medžiagų variantai. Atsižvelgiant į vieno ar kito apdailos medžiagų varianto įgyvendinimo tikslingumą gyvenamojoje, visuomeninėje ar pramoninėje statyboje pateiktos išvados bei pasiūlymai. Darbą sudaro įvadas, 4 skyriai, išvados, literatūros sąrašas. Pirmame skyriuje pateikti bendrieji reikalavimai apdailai, antrame pagrindo dekoratyviniai apdailai paruošimo technologijos analizė, trečiame apdailos įrengimo būdų analizė, ketvirtame racionalaus išorės apdailos varianto parinkimas. Darbo apimtis – 87 p. teksto be priedų, 24 iliustr., 14 lent., 43 bibliografiniai šaltiniai. Atskirai pridedami darbo priedai.
It is quite obvious, that due to broad variety of finishing materials and functional and architectural purpose of buildings, it is difficult to choose the best façade finishing. Therefore, the topic of master thesis is comparison of finishing materials, and selection of the most effective option. Several possible finishing options were surveyed in the diploma job. Such options are remarkable by its’ technological simplicity, low labour expenditures and other advantage. Three types of inhabitant, public and industrial buildings façades finishing were compared: plastering, painting and coverage with pre-fabricated materials. Several technicallyeconomically different finishing options for each type of finishing were surveyed. Multicriteria evaluation method using SPS-DS software package was used for indicating of three rational finishing options. With regard to the expedience of usage of certain finishing material in private, public and industrial constructions, conclusions and proposals are presented. Thesis consists of Introduction, 4 chapters, Conclusions, References. First chapter includes general requirements for finishing works, second – analysis of preparation of the base for decorative finishing, third – analysis of finishing installation processes, fourth – rational choice between outside finishing options. Det gamla Tibet var inget Shangri-La - drömland innan Kinas invasion, år 1950. Det var ett land som styrdes av en feodal överklass, samt präster och munkar men den uppfyllde alla kriterier av en nationalstat. Kinas folksrättslig illegala maktövertagande och den hårda ockupationen som medförde stort lidande för det tibetanska folket måste därför fördömas. Tibet hade en rik och unik kultur, livaktikga buddhistiska traditioner och en fredsfilosofi som låg till grund för tibetanernas icke-våldspolitik. Invasionen och den följande exiltillvaron av Dalai Lamas regering utlöste stora förändringar i tibetanernas samhälle, både till det bättre och till det sämre. Medan situationen för folket i Tibet är allvarlig pga. Kinas ockupationspolitik har tibetanerna i exil lyckats bevara den tibetanska identiteten och samtidigt förvandla den hierokratisk passiva fredskulturen till en modern demokratisk icke-våldsrörelse. Det är denna demokratiprocess som undersöktes i uppsatsen.

In dieser Kandidatenarbeit werden die Lieder Dalai Lama und Rosenrot der deutschen Band Rammstein und die Gedichte Erlkönig und Heidenröslein von dem deutschen Dichter Johann Wolfgang von Goethe untersucht. Das Ziel ist herauszufinden, ob die Lieder Rammsteins Adaptionen von den Gedichten von J.W. Goethe sich als Adaptionen betrachten lassen. Alle Werke werden literaturwissenschaftlich analysiert, damit die Adaptionsanalyse möglich wäre. Zum Beispiel werden die Allegorien, Symbole und andere Elemente der Bildhaftigkeit in den Werken gründlich vorgestellt. Zusätzlich zu der Bildhaftigkeit werden auch solche wesentliche Begriffe wie ‚Text‘, ‚Lyrik‘ und ‚Motiv‘ erklärt. Dann werden diese Elemente mithilfe der Theorie der Adaption miteinander verglichen, um zu verstehen, welche Elemente ähnlich oder unterschiedlich sind. Im Rahmen der in dieser Arbeit benutzten Theorie der Adaption ist es davon möglich zu schließen, ob Rammsteins Lieder Adaptionen von J.W. Goethes Gedichten sind
Tässä kandidaatintyössä tutkitaan saksalaisen yhtye Rammsteinin kappaleita Dalai Lama ja Rosenrot ja saksalaisen runoilija Johann Wolfgang von Goethen runoja. Tavoitteena on selvittää, voidaanko Rammsteinin kappaleita pitää J.W. Goethen runojen adaptaatioina. Kaikki teokset analysoidaan kirjallisuusteoriallisesti, jotta adaptaatioanalyysi olisi mahdollinen. Esimerkiksi teosten allegoriat, symbolit ja muut kielikuvalliset elementit esitellään perusteellisesti. Kielikuvallisuuden lisäksi selitetään myös keskeiset termit ’teksti’ ’lyriikka’ ja ’motiivi’. Tämän jälkeen näitä elementtejä vertaillaan teosten kesken adaptaatioteorian avulla, jotta ymmärretään, mitkä elementit ovat samankaltaisia tai erilaisia. Religiös etik i miljöarbetet Uppsatsen bygger på en primär fråga och det är huruvida religion kan bidra med en etisk aspekt i miljöarbetet, jag har även försökt att besvara en sekundär frågeställning som avser hur miljön med hjälp av en religion ur miljöetiskt perspektiv kan förbättras för människor, djur och natur.           För att besvara frågeställningen har jag använt mig av en komparativ studie där jag har jämfört Larry L Rasmussens Earth community, earth ethics och Dalai Lamas Etik för ett nytt millenium. Carolyn Merchants Naturens Död utgör min bakgrund och är det perspektiv jag antagit i undersökningen, jag valde författaren för att få en feministisk historisk analys av de händelser som lett fram till det moderna vetenskapssamhället och problemställningen vi står inför idag.           Resultatet av undersökningen visar att det största ansvaret ligger på individen men att ett etiskt system baserat på världsreligionernas centrala värderingar kan vara till stor hjälp när eget ansvar och etiska överväganden ska avgöras. Kristendomen har genom dualism och mans-centrering skapat ett destruktivt förhållningssätt till naturen och kvinnor vilket bidragit till många av dagens miljöproblem, klassåtskillnader och andra orättvisor, därför måste kristendomen reformeras till att se människan som en del av naturen och ta beslut som har en helhet i åtanke då hela världen samverkar i ett enda system. Det är speciellt viktigt att kristendomen tar ett stort ansvar att förvandla den västerländska världen från en materialistisk till en ansvarstagande kultur, därefter kan den bidra ur ett miljöetiskt perspektiv.           Dalai Lamas etik utgår från invidnivå och eget ansvar som inte förutsätter en religiös övertygelse av den anledningen att religion och andlighet är skilda saker. Religion är bön, ritualer och tro på en metafysisk sfär, andlighet har med den mänskliga andens egenskaper att göra det vill säga medkänsla, tålamod och ansvar. En etik som hjälper människor att ta ansvar och hantera lidande kan vara till stor hjälp för att bidra till psykologisk och emotionell hälsa i västländerna. Resultatet av undersökningen visar att religionens centrala värderingar och etik har mycket att bidra med ur ett miljöetiskt perspektiv, det bör dock skiljas ut från en särskild trosinriktning då etik, moral och ansvar inte ska förutsätta en religiös övertygelse av något slag.

This thesis examines the complex process by which Tenzin Gyatso (Bstan 'dzin rgya mtsho), the fourteenth Dalai Lama, has publicly and consciously sought to rise above traditional structures of sectarianism in order to forge a coherent Tibetan identity in exile. As the self-proclaimed political and spiritual leader of the Tibetan people, the Dalai Lama, as well as the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), has frequently de-emphasized his Dge lugs pa sectarian affiliations, instead employing a mode of "non-sectarian" representation. I argue in this thesis that this "non-sectarianism" can be historically traced back to the nineteenth century ris med ("non-bias" or "non-sectarian") movement, a trend spearheaded in the eastern region of Khams, Tibet. In this way, the current Dalai Lama's efforts to unify Tibet under a rubric that delineates a non-sectarian identity, indeed parallels an earlier moment in the story of Tibet, one that was equally unstable and yet central to the historical narrative of Khams. Employing a historical and textual analysis based on primary and secondary sources, this thesis is a study of the fourteenth Dalai Lama's appropriation of the historical ris med model, and an investigation of the techniques and modes of "non-sectarian" representation adopted and disseminated by this leader and his administration-in-exile. It investigates the implications of the Dalai Lama's ris med identity on the larger project of ideological nation building in the Tibetan context, and explores how, "non-sectarianism" becomes decidedly sectarian in its desire to imagine a homogeneous and unified Tibet in exile.
Ce mémoire examine le processus complexe par lequel le quatorzième Dalaï-lama du Tibet a publiquement et sciemment cherché à s'élever au-delà de structures sectaires traditionnelles dans le but d'établir une identité cohérente dans le contexte de l'exil. En tant que chef politique et spirituel auto-proclamé du peuple tibétain, le Dalaï-lama, de même que l'Administration centrale tibétaine, a fréquemment minimisé son appartenance à la secte Dge lugs pa, faisant plutôt usage d'un mode de représentation « non-sectaire ». The attacks of September 11, 2001 have done more to focus attention on the conjunction of religion and conflict than any other event in recent history. Although much international research has focused since then on the role of Islam, religiously inspired violence is also found in countries as diverse as Thailand, Burma, or Sri Lanka, where Buddhism plays a central role. This paper addresses how these realities are reflected in two Swedish high school textbooks on religion. The thesis calls into question the manner in which Buddhism is presented in schoolbooks as the most probable candidate to be a conflict-free religion.

Using Fairclough’s discourse analysis theoretical framework and Hellspong’s structural analysis, the thesis critically examines the relationship between text, the discourse practice in which text is produced and the wider social practices. The study concludes that schoolbooks are committed to presenting Buddhism as virtually conflict-free by means of rhetorical procedures which focus mainly on what is assumed to be “the most important” message of Tibetan Buddhism and its portal figure, Dalai lama – namely peace. At the same time, the author suggests that there is a strong intertextuality between the texts of the schoolbooks and the romanticised views of Dalai lama existent in three contemporary Hollywood films.

The limits of the paper are finally addressed and various paths to future research are suggested, in an effort to improve schoolbooks, since pedagogical texts structure the students’ way of thinking about Buddhism in particular, and religion in general.

A sequence stratigraphic study was conducted on the Mendi and Darai Limestone Megasequences in the foreland area of the Papuan Basin in Papuan New Guinea. It involved the integrated use of seismic, wireline log, well core and cuttings, strontium isotope age and biostratigraphic data. This study enhanced the understanding of the structure, stratigraphy and depositional architecture of the limestones, and the morphology of the basin at the time of deposition. The results of the study were integrated with published geological and tectonic models for the Papuan Basin to develop a consistent and coherent model for the depositional history of the limestones. Eleven third-order sequences were delineated within the Mendi and Darai Limestone Megasequences. Eight depositional facies were interpreted across these sequences, namely deep-shelf, shallow-shelf, backreef, reef, shoal, forereef, basin margin and submarine fan facies. Each facies was differentiated according to seismic character and geometry, well core and cuttings descriptions, and its position in the depositional framework of the sequence. Deposition of the Mendi Limestone Megasequence commenced in the Eocene in response to thermal subsidence and eustatic sea-level rise. Sedimentation comprised open-marine, shallow-water, shelfal carbonates. During the middle of the Oligocene, the carbonate shelf was exposed and eroded in response to the collision of the Australian and Pacific Plates, or a major global eustatic sea-level fall. Sedimentation recommenced in the Late Oligocene, however, in response to renewed extensional faulting and subsidence associated with back-arc extension. This marked the onset of deposition of the Darai Limestone Megasequence in the study area. The KFZ, OFZ and Darai Fault were reactivated during this time, resulting in the oblique opening of the Omati Trough. Sedimentation was initially restricted to the Omati Trough and comprised deep and shallow-marine shelfal carbonates. By the Early Miocene, however, movement on the faults had ceased and an extensive carbonate platform had developed across the Gulf of Papua. Carbonate reef growth commenced along topographic highs associated with the KFZ, and led to the establishment of a rimmed carbonate shelf margin. Shallow to locally deeper-marine, shelfal carbonates were deposited on this shelf, and forereef, submarine fan and basin margin carbonates were deposited basinward of the shelf margin. The Uramu High and parts of the Pasca High became submerged during this time and provided sites for pinnacle reef development. During the middle of the Early Miocene, a major global eustatic sea-level fall or flexure of the Papuan Basin associated with Early Miocene ophiolite obduction subaerially exposed the carbonate shelf. This resulted in submarine erosion of the forereef and basin margin sediments. Towards the end of the Early Miocene, however, sedimentation recommenced. Shallow-marine, undifferentiated wackestones and packstones were deposited on the shelf; forereef, submarine fan and basin margin sediments were deposited basinward of the shelf margin; and reef growth recommenced along the shelf margin and on the Pasca and Uramu Highs. By the end of the Early Miocene, however, the pinnacle reef on the Pasca High had drowned. During the middle of the Middle Miocene, subtle inversion associated with ophiolite obduction subaerially exposed the carbonate shelf, and resulted in submarine erosion of the forereef and basin margin sediments. Sedimentation recommenced towards the end of the Middle Miocene, however, in response to eustatic sea-level rise and flexure of the crust associated with foreland basin development. Shallow marine, undifferentiated wackestones, packstones and grainstones were deposited on the shelf; carbonate shoals were deposited along the shelf margin; and forereef, submarine fan and basin margin carbonates were deposited basinward of the shelf margin. Carbonate production rapidly outpaced accommodation space on the shelf during this time, resulting in highstand shedding and the development of a large prograding submarine fan complex basinward of the shelf margin. By the Late Miocene, carbonate deposition had ceased across the majority of the study area in response to a major global eustatic sea-level fall or inversion associated with terrain accreation events along the northern Papuan margin. Minor carbonate deposition continued on parts of the Uramu High, however, until the middle of the Late Miocene. During the latest Miocene, clastic sediments prograded across the carbonate shelf, infilling parts of the foreland basin. Plio-Pleistocene compression resulted in inversion and erosion of the sedimentary package in the northwestern part of the study area. In the southeastern part of the Papuan Basin, however, clastic sedimentation continued to the present day.

This essay analyses the speech of the Dalai Lama and suggests possible effects that core aspects of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, such as the theory of selflessness, might have when a believer uses the personal pronouns I, you, he, she, we and they. Collected utterances of the Dalai Lama during the Charlie Rose Show has been used in order to conduct a threefold investigation, using pragmatic, discourse analytical and sociolinguistic backgrounds, aiming to understand these effects more thoroughly. Qualitative and quantitative approaches were used for this report based on previous studies with a data-based method. These approaches enabled the researcher to find, for instance, a consistent use of the first-person personal pronoun by the Dalai Lama in the material. Other findings include an acknowledgment of philosophical influence concerning the field of intentionality, when related to religious discourse, as Buddhism establishes religious discourse as being based on the speaker’s motivation alone. The status of the Dalai Lama notwithstanding, his use of personal pronouns was also not found to match the findings of previous research on status and the use of self-mention.
