Weight velocity of 34 Egyptian infants aged two to thirteen months was examined before, during, and after 43 diarrheal episodes. The study was conducted in Bolaq El Dakrour, a poor neighborhood in metropolitan Cairo, during the summer of 1990. Anaeróbios estritos intestinais como B. fragilis enterotoxigênico e Clostridium difficile estão associados a este quadro infeccioso, assim como Escherichia coli diarreiogênica, Salmonella spp., Shigella spp. e Yersinia enterocolitica.
