The Dinagat Islands hold a large and varied avian fauna with high rate of endemism and species of conservation concern. However, anthropogenic activities pose a grave threat to the avian diversity of these islands. We conducted a three-year (2017–2019) avifaunal survey using mist-nets to inventory the avian species of the islands. We recorded 37 species in 22 families. Seventeen species are Philippine endemic, one species is of conservation concern, and two species are newly recorded from the Dinagat Islands. We also present an annotated checklist of bird species of the Dinagat Islan

This study highlights the ecology, natural history, and a new distribution record by providing a unique habitat occurrence record in karst ecosystem and describes a tail anomaly of the endemic Mamanwa Bent-toed Gecko Cyrtodactylus mamanwa in the province of Dinagat. The detection of a new population on Unib Island in the southwestern Dinagat extends the previously known distribution of this gekkonid by approximately 100 km south from its known distribution.

DepEd through DepEd Order No. 65, s. 2003mandates the institutionalization of the research-based decision and policy making in the department. Nevertheless, in remote areas like Dinagat Islands, only few teachers, both in public and private schools, were involved in research. As baseline study for the research and development intervention program of Dinagat Division, this study aimed to find out the status, challenges and directions of research involvement of private and public school teachers in the Division of Dinagat Islands. Abstract Nickel laterites are soils that are derived from the weathering of mafic and ultramafic rocks. These deposits are being extracted mostly for their economic Ni and Fe content. However, in recent studies, the potential of nickel laterites to hold significant amounts of critical metals such as Sc and Co are already being investigated. In the Philippines, nickel laterite deposits form through the weathering of ophiolitic units. One of these is the Cagdianao nickel laterite deposit which was derived from the weathering of the ultramafic units of the Dinagat Ophiolite Complex in Dinagat Isl

The use of macroalgae as a substitute for synthetic drugs is gaining popularity. Macroalgae is a simple and fascinating species that is a treasure chest of natural chemicals and beneficial ingredients and can be found in some areas of the marine environment. This study was undertaken to evaluate the toxicity effect through brine shrimp bioassay and presence of the secondary metabolites through phytochemical screening of ethanolic extract in selected macroalgae collected along the intertidal zone in selected areas of the Barangays in Loreto Dinagat Islands. A new species of Nepenthes—N. erucoides—is described and illustrated from a single ultramafic peak in the Dinagat Islands Province of northeastern Mindanao. It is a distinctive component of a relatively low-elevation, highly biodiverse montane elfin forest that has evolved in association with a particularly thin and extremely hostile substrate. Plant habit, and leaf, inflorescence, indumentum and peristome-column morphology appear superficially similar to those of the ultramaficolous montane species of Palawan, implicating an environmental basis for a syndrome of shared characteristics.

Abstract The technical feasibility of off-shore wind energy in the Philippines is assessed. Geographic information system is utilized to integrate the different technical data into a single model. Off-shore wind speed data for five years at elevations 10m, 20m, 80m, and 100m from a local database was used as reference for the wind resource study. Two wind turbines were considered for the energy conversion component, Siemens SWT-3.6-120 and Senvion 6.2 M126. The wind speed data was interpolated to 90m and 95m using standard power law to match the hub heights of the turbines studied. The wind po
