The electricity use characteristics of 16 air conditioned houses each of 2 bedrooms flat government owned housing unit in Gusau, Nigeria were investigated. Monthly electricity consumption data were gathered and analysed to obtain a breakdown of the energy use. Results show an annual electricity consumption of 572933 kWh with energy use per unit gross floor area of 236.73 kWh/m<sup>2</sup>. We draw on a unique dataset for energy use by manufacturing firms in 18 Sub-Saharan African countries to estimate the relationship between energy intensity of production and firms' characteristics. Our results show that lower levels of energy intensity are associated with export activity, foreign ownership, size and capital-labor ratio, while higher levels of energy intensity are associated with a higher share of fuels in total energy consumption. We examine the relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Latin America and the Caribbean using panel data from 1971 to 2019. Employing both parametric and non-parametric methods, we find a robust positive correlation between Latin America and the Caribbean's economic activity and energy consumption. Specifically, a 1% increase in income is associated with a 0.4% increase in total energy use in the short term, rising to a 0.9% in the long term.
