The identities, authorship and/or spellings of three genusand three family-group names in the order Zoantharia (=Zoanthidea), are clarified. Palythoa axinellae Schmidt, 1862, is designated as the type species of Heterozoanthus Verrill,1870, making this genus-group name an objective synonym of Parazoanthus Haddon & Shackleton, 1891, with prevailingusage of the latter maintained by a reversal of precedence. The family-group name Heterozoanthidae was inadvertentlyestablished by Pax & Müller (1956), and is a junior objective synonym of Parazoanthidae Delage & Hérouard, 1901. Thegenusan

In southern California and southern Australia, several species of hexacorals that are common at diving depths have been referred to as “Yellow Zoanthids.” We describe three new species of them in the genus Epizoanthus because all have a macrocnemic mesenterial arrangement and mesogleal marginal sphincter muscle. Epizoanthus giveni is from southern California, and Epizoanthus karenae and Epizoanthus rodmani are from southern Australia. Distinguishing features of E. giveni n. sp. are a sphincter muscle with alveoli arrayed in a single, longitudinal column, polyps no longer than 8 mm beyond the c

Epizoanthus species are generally found in association with other marine invertebrates such as hermit crabs and gastropods. Although Epizoanthus spp. are relatively common, there is limited information about their diversity and ecology due to their habitats or hosts, often being below the depths of SCUBA diving (>~50 m). In particular, the Epizoanthus fauna of the Indo-Pacific Ocean remains poorly understood. In this study, the diversity of Epizoanthus species associated with eunicid worm tubes from shallow waters in the Pacific Ocean we investigated using molecular analyses (mitochondrial
