Using data from four sources, horse-related injuries are summarized for persons younger than 25 years of age. Head injury caused 57% of deaths. The upper extremity was the most common area injured, with the next most frequent areas the lower extremity (National Park Service data) and the head (United States Pony Clubs [USPC] data). Injured females outnumbered injured males and had a greater percentage of participants injured (USPC data). Injuries occurred at home in 41% (National Electronic Injury Surveillance System data). BACKGROUND: Motorcycle and equestrian accidents can share similar trauma mechanisms and can result in serious injuries. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to analyze variations in injuries and safety standards through types, severity, and outcomes of traumatic injuries in both motorcycle and equestrian riders. METHODS: Using the 2020 ACS TQIP database, we split patients into two groups based on their primary injury. We chose codes V28 and V80.0 to identify non-collision fall or throw injuries for motorcycle and equestrian accidents respectively. A total of 17,730 motorcycle and 5,461 equestrian patien

Introduction and purposes: Severe injuries are a documented consequence of horse riding accidents. This study aims to explore the prevalence of spine injuries associated with horse riding, identify the most common types of injuries, examine mechanistic underpinnings, analyze typological manifestations, assess implicated spinal regions, investigate demographic risk factors, and examine ensuing neurological sequelae and back pain. Materials and Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed and Google Scholar. The search employed terms such as 'horse riding,' 'injuries,' 'spi

In the North-West region of Russia, the interest of athletes is concentrated mainly on classical types of equestrian sports (show jumping, dressage). Show jumping and dressage differ in many ways from endurance, but the main difference is the length of the distance (in endurance races the distance can reach 160 km), which requires training, first of all, for endurance. At the same time, in show jumping, as is known, horses overcome obstacles, and in dressage they perform elements in which the distribution of the load does not always occur evenly. The aim of the study was to examine perceived challenges and coping strategies of Swedish elite show jumpers from the holistic perspective. A mixed-methodology was used with a dominant qualitative design and a supportive quantitative design. Semi-structured interviews based on the holistic athletic career model and two surveys developed from the qualitative results were used to collect the data. The participants of the study were 5 Swedish elite show jumpers between the age of 24-29 (M=26.4, SD=2.06).
