Aim of the study: Assessment of reliability of radiation safety standards after inhalation intake of Pu-239. Material and methods: Using results of epidemiological study of lung cancer mortality in Mayak workers cohort and statistical data on all causes and lung cancer mortality in Russia the excess lifetime risk of lung cancer death was calculated. Results: Current radiation safety standards restrict annual intake of Pu-239 class “S” at 1300 Bq/year level. The annual limit of intake is calculated in a way that the level of committed effective dose in 50 years after intake should not exceed 20

In 20 houses, the RAC was higher than 400-Bq m−3 critical value declared by the Turkish Atomic Energy Authority (TAEK). Since carcinogenicity assessment is unable to determine the safe level of secondhand smoke, we estimated excess lifetime cancer risk using previously reported risk factors. Assuming that nicotine inhalation is proportional to cancer potency, the lifetime cancer risk for HTP IQOS is expected to be below 10−5 (1/100,000), which is three orders of magnitude lower than that for cigarettes.

The general assumption behind cancer screening has been that early diagnosis and treatment is effective at reducing cancer-related mortality; this is broadly speaking true, for some cancer screening efforts, in some age groups. However, screening may in some cases do more harm than good. One source of harm is overdiagnosis and overtreatment, the diagnosis and treatment of indolent or slow-growing disease that may never lead to morbidity or mortality in the lifetime of the patient. Precaution in cancer screening is thus a double-edged sword: early diagnosis and treatment has clear benefits; but

Potentially toxic elements (PTEs) can cause several health problems. Sepiolite is a clay mineral containing hydrated magnesium silicate and widely utilized in agriculture, food, detergent, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, paint, paper, fertilizer, construction, etc. The aim of this study is to assess the health risks that may arise from some PTEs present in the sepiolite mineral contained in the products we use in our daily lives. For this purpose, first of all, some PTEs contained in the sepiolite mineral were analyzed by EDXRF technique, and then non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks were estima

Streszczenie:
Excess weight can influence quality of life and impair health by leading to an increased risk of diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and certain cancers. With breast cancer, the risk association between excess weight is dependent on menopausal status for women; weight increases the risk of breast cancer in postmenopausal women but there is no evidence that being overweight when pre-menopausal is associated with an increased risk of breast cancer. Being overweight or obese is also a risk factor for breast cancer in men. Three main mechanisms have been proposed to explain the associa
