The objective of this experiment was to estimate the magnitude of genotype X environment interaction on grain yield and yield related traits. Twelve varieties of food barley were included in the study planted in randomized complete block design with three replications. The ANOVA of combined and individual location revealed significant differences among the food barley genotypes for grain yield and other traits. The results of ANOVA for grain yield showed highly significant (p≤0.01) differences among genotypes evaluated for grain yield at Maychew and significant (p≤0.05) differences in Korem, A

Abstract This paper presents experiments on the cooling effectiveness obtained for two different injection locations on the suction side of a turbine blade at transonic flow conditions. Previous results of a computational analysis and flow visualization indicated that a separation bubble is present on the suction side at a location x/L = 0.43 and the location x/L = 0.575 corresponds to a shock-boundary interaction zone [9]. The scientific interest is primarily focused on the realization of high film cooling efficiencies and its relevant parameters under these flow conditions. Streamwise aligne

A horseshoe vortex at the blade-endwall junction introduces the reduction of turbine blade performance due to the three dimensional separation near the stagnation point of the blade and the interaction of the two legs of the horseshoe vortex in the turbine cascade passage. In order to simulate the interaction of the leg vortices in the passage, a pair of vortex generators which produces the longitudinal vortices from the tip of the generator wings is installed upstream of the blade. The experiments are made under the different configuration of the longitudinal vortex generators. NACA 0024 airf

Over the last decades, researchers have investigated many aspects of film cooling. The present study investigates the impact of stagnation region created by a downstream airfoil on endwall film cooling effectiveness. Experimental measurements are presented for a single row of cylindrical holes inclined at 35° with hole length to diameter ratio, L/D = 7.5, pitch to diameter ratio, PI/D = 3 with a constant density ratio of 1.26 and with nitrogen as the coolant. Five different configurations were studied. Configuration 0 is the baseline, this configuration consist of a single row of cylindrical h

Manipulation of the horseshoe vortex is a key technology for improvement of blade performance in the turbine blade passage, since the complicated interaction process of the vortices occurs around the blade. The target of the present study is to clarify the interaction process between the leg vortex of the horseshoe vortex produced by the blade and the longitudinal vortex produced by the vortex generator. The arrangement of the vortex generator wings which correspond to Common Flow Down configuration is discussed. The effect of the spacing of the longitudinal vortices is also tested. The narrow

An experimental study reported in this paper was intended to acquire information on the distribution of wall shear stress and surface static pressure in a blade endwall corner. The blade endwall corner region investigated was divided into three sections: 0.4 chord length upstream of the blade leading edge, inside the endwall corner region, and one-chord length downstream of the blade trailing edge. Maximum increase in the values of wall shear stress were found to exist on the endwall, in the corner region, between the blade leading edge and the location of maximum blade thickness (≈140% maximu

Pod-filling, an important yield-determining stage is strongly influenced by water stress. This is particularly true for peanut (Arachishypogaea), wherein pods are developed underground and are directly affected by the water condition. Pod-filling in peanut has a significant genetic component as well, since genotypes are considerably varied in their pod-fill (PF) and seed-fill (SF) potential. The goals of this research were to: Examine the effects of genotype, irrigation, and genotype X irrigation on PF and SF. Detect global changes in mRNA and metabolites levels that accompany PF and SF. Light capturing and energy conversion by PSI is one of the most fundamental processes in nature. In the heart of these adaptations stand PSI, PSII and their light harvesting antenna complexes. The main goal of this grant proposal was to obtain by X-ray crystallography information on the structure of plant photosystem I (PSI) and photosystem II (PSII) supercomplexes. We achieved several milestones along this line but as yet, like several strong laboratories around the world, we have no crystal structure of plant PSII. We have redesigned the purification and crystallization procedures and recent
