Abstract This article presents an analysis of the conception of prophecy that Gershom Scholem developed in his early essay “On Jonah and the Concept of Justice” (1919). Este artigo busca identificar como o mito influenciou Walter Benjamin na leitura dos contos “Kótin, o provedor, e Platonida”, “A sentinela”, “O artista dos topetes” e “O peregrino encantado”, de Nikolai Leskov. However, this piece somehow remained undetected by the editors of the Gesammelte Schriften. It first appeared in German and English in Metaphysics of the Profane, New York: Columbia University Press, 2003, pp. 166-169, with permission of the German publishers Suhrkamp Verlag. It is presented here with a typographical error corrected.
