A self-administered, mail questionnaire was used to assess the current state of hospital drug-use evaluation (DUE) programs within short-term, general U.S. hospitals. During February-March 1992, two mailings were sent to pharmacy directors at 491 randomly selected institutions. A net response rate of 66.6% (327/491) was achieved. Invoking assumptions that do not sufficiently reflect the occurrence of true phenomenon reduces the credibility of inferences.
