Abstract A study conducted in 2000 determined effects of two rates of Cutless and B-Nine/Cycocel tank mix and initial plant height on vegetative growth and flowering of Canna x generalis ‘Florence Vaughan’. Canna lily responded independently to plant growth retardant (PGR) treatment and initial plant height. Cutless suppressed vegetative height consistently up to 34% at the lower rate (25 ppm) and up to 41% at the higher rate (50 ppm) throughout the study, regardless of initial plant height. At first and second flower, increasing rates of Cutless suppressed vegetative height about 36% and 35–4

Objective This study examined the effect of using a variable-height staple construct containing three rows of staples with heights of 3.0, 3.5, and 4.0 mm (staple leg length, medial to lateral) versus standard three-row single-height staplers (with staple heights of either 3.5 or 4.8 mm) for pneumostasis in healthy porcine and canine lung parenchyma to determine whether a single stapler that uses variable staple heights could perform as well as, or better than, existing single-height stapling devices. The work presented here used healthy animal tissues, in lieu of diseased tissue, which is ext

High-value timber species such as monarch birch (Betula maximowicziana Regel), castor aralia (Kalopanax septemlobus (Thunb.) Koidz), and Japanese oak (Quercus crispula Blume) play important ecological and economic roles in forest management in the cool temperate mixed forests in northern Japan. The accurate measurement of their tree height is necessary for both practical management and scientific reasons such as estimation of biomass and site index. In this study, we investigated the similarity of individual tree heights derived from conventional field survey, digital aerial photographs derive

National height reference coordinate systems are based on levelling networks classified into orders, according to their accuracy. Traditionally, height systems are realized by applying the parametric adjustment and the least squares method. Any kind of correlation between the observations as well as the correlation of fixed heights is often neglected for pragmatical reasons. Also, given heights are usually assumed error-free when in reality they possess a certain level of accuracy. This paper presents an alternative realisation of the height reference system HVRS71 for the Republic of Croatia.

Subsampling and subsequent imputation of tree heights can improve the predictive performance of stand volume estimation but may also introduce biases. Using coastal Douglas-fir data from southwest Oregon, USA, the predictive performance of several height imputation strategies for estimating stand volume was evaluated. A subsample of 1–15 trees was randomly selected per stand, and missing heights were imputed using a regional Chapman–Richards function with diameter only and diameter plus stand density measures, fitted using a nonlinear least-squares model (NFEM) and a nonlinear mixed-effects mo

This study examines the conversion strategy of 2D to 3D cadastral maps by standardizing the height limits of land rights based on LU/LC. To achieve 3D cadastral maps, the research proposes a conversion strategy considering height factors. The height dimension of cadastral maps faces challenges in determining maximum heights for features like buildings, given varying regional regulations. As a solution, the concept of surface feature height (SFH) is applied along with LU/LC classification. Economic considerations, such as state revenue from taxes, are also factored into the proposed height limi

The distribution of canopy heights obtained with an airborne laser scanner over a field trial with Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) was a function of the vertical distribution of foliage area. Over a wide range of canopy structures, the proportion of laser pulses returned from or above a given reference height was proportional to the fraction of leaf area above it. We hypothesized that the quantile of the laser canopy heights matching in probability the fraction of leaf area above a desired height would be an unbiased estimator of same. Abstract. We use the global circulation model ECHAM6 extended by the aerosol module HAM2 to simulate global patterns in wildfire emission heights. Prescribed plume heights in ECHAM6 are replaced by an implementation of a simple, semi-empirical plume height parametrization. In a first step, the global performance of the plume height parametrization is evaluated for plumes reported in the MISR Plume Height Project data set. Our results show that the parametrization simulates a largely reasonable global distribution of plume heights. While the modeled global mean plume height (1411±646 m) is in g
