<em>Thereuonema tuberculata</em> (Wood, 1862) is an anthropophilic centipede originating from Asia. Introduced populations were recently reported from inside buildings in the United Kingdom and the USA; however, this centipede has not been reported from outdoor habitats where it is an introduced species. We report established populations of <em>T. tuberculata</em> in two forested and lakeside habitats in Nebraska, USA, which indicates this species has a widely dispersed, established population in the continental USA.

The present paper considers the taxonomic status of the poorly known European centipedes Lithobius dollfusi Verhoeff, 1901, L. lapadensis Verhoeff, 1900 and L. karamani Verhoeff, 1937 described by the prominent German zoologist Dr. Karl Wilhelm Verhoeff, using types currently housed in the Museum für Naturkunde, Berlin. Re-examination of the types revealed the following new combination and synonymy: Harpolithobius dollfusi (Verhoeff, 1901) comb.n. = H. intermedius Matic, 1958 syn.n. Lithobius lapadensis and L. karamani are re-described and illustrated and their taxonomic position discussed.

Abstract Background Regenerating legs is advantageous for arthropods as their appendages exhibit crucial functional specializations. Many arthropods possess a ‘preferred breakage point’, where the appendage is most likely to break and where regeneration likely to occur, however, different taxa exhibit different levels of regenerative potential. Centipede appendage regeneration is categorized as 'progressive' or 'explosive'. In the later, the appendage is fully regenerated after one molt.
