Surveillance data indicate that failures have been reported for virtually all heartworm prevention product categories. Resistance of third and fourth stage larvae of Dirofilaria immitis to macrocyclic lactones, lack of compliance, other unknown factors, or a combination of these reasons may be the cause of failure. A survey of members of a national hunting dog club was conducted to identify practices used to prevent canine heartworm infections. Questionnaires were completed by 708 dog owners. Year-round administration of heartworm preventive medication was reported by 208 (88%) respondents res

Osseous barbed and unbarbed points are commonly recovered from the Dutch North Sea and other Mesolithic sites of northern Europe. Interpreted as elements of projectile weaponry, barbed points are considered by archaeologists to be a technological innovation in the hunting equipment of hunter-gatherers. However, debate about their exact use and identification of the targeted prey species is still ongoing. To shed light on the function of these tools, we analysed a sample of 17 artefacts from the Netherlands with a multi-disciplinary approach encompassing morphometric, functional, and chemical a

Context Whether trophy hunting is beneficial or a threat to the conservation of species is an open and hotly debated question. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) is in charge of assessing the need for species protection at the global scale and providing a useful guide for sustainable exploitation and conservation. Consideration of the IUCN status in wildlife management and its consequences on the attractiveness of trophy-hunted species remains to be quantified. Aims The present study investigated the link between the IUCN status of the trophy species and its exploitation

The aim of the article is a evaluation of productivity labor in rural sectors (agriculture, forestry, hunting, fishing) and comparative this with the use of European funds in Polish regions at the years 2003-2013. Possibility of the convergence sigma and beta related with the amount of funds used from the European Union budget was assumed. Research confirmed results phenomena of convergence in the first years of the analysis (2003-2008) as well as phenomenon of stratification and stabilization in selected group of regions. These suggets that the club convergence may be observed.

Elk (Cervus canadensis) historically inhabited southern Quebec and central Ontario, but, by the early 1900s, the species was extirpated from this region. Attempts to re-establish an Elk population in Ontario during the first half of the 20th century had limited success. We reviewed historical documents, population census records, and a previous study pertaining to Elk reintroduced to Ontario in the early 1900s for clues to the cause(s) of their limited population growth. The diagnosis of tularemia, a bacterial disease, may not be considered because of its low incidence in the United States. A careful epidemiologic history, however, may offer the necessary clues to diagnosis.1 We describe two cases of tularemia in siblings presumably caused by contact with a rabbit killed by hunting dogs. Of special interest was the use of the rabbit's feet as good luck charms. Although appropriate measures can be taken to prevent this disease, such precautions are either not widely known or not strictly adhered to among those who hunt small game. Dangme-land is naturally replete with abundant stone resources whose exploitation facilitated the peoples’ adaptation to their environment. The objective of the researcher in this paper was to investigate for what purposes the ancient indigenous Dangme populations that occupied Sega Hill, Kpone, Shai and Prampram exploited and used stones in the remote past. It also documented the techniques and methodologies utilized by the people to exploit this resource. Data for the study were derived from ethnographic and archaeological investigations and from early European sources relating to the area.

Thus, the problem of wildlife conservation, especially that of pholidotes, becomes worrying. The overall objective of the study is to determine the preferred habitats and threats to the tree pangolin population in the Monts Kouffé protected forest. The method used to collect biogeographical data is based on surveys followed by forest surveys and interviews with the local population. Thus, clues of the presence of Phatag
