Streszczenie:
This paper presents an investigation of the inventory of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the energy sector by energy supply in Khon Kaen province, Thailand. Studied areas are classified into 3 categories, which are city centre metropolitan, rural village and academic campus. The studied areas are Khon Kaen metropolitan, Nonthong village and Khon Kaen University (KKU), respectively. The GHG inventories of these areas are calculated and compared. GHG emissions are calculated by type of energy supply, which are electricity, petrol, LPG and CNG. We have found that 77 percent of GHG emissions in Khon Kaen metropolitan come from electricity consumption. In contrast, 59 percent of GHG emissions in Nonthong village come from the use of petrol. However, there is only a slight difference between the GHG emission contributions from two major sources of greenhouse gases in Khon Kaen University, where electricity use and petrol use contribute 50 and 42 percent, respectively. Finally, An insight into different characteristics of areas would help regulators to design suitable GHG reduction measures for each community. Some suggestions for GHG reduction measures were made.

Streszczenie:
Soil stratum in Khon Kaen province, located in Northeast of Thailand, is well-known as a wind-deposited fine-grained soil (i.e. silty sand and silty clay). It is normally called “Loess or Khon Kaen Loess”. This soil in disturbed stage is usually extracted from the borrow pit and subsequently compacted for infrastructure applications. The compaction resulted in silty sand or silty clay aggregation with unpredictable properties. Although required for infrastructure design, studies on Khon Kaen Loess are limited. Thus, this research examines the compaction behavior and predicts soil parameters at various clay contents under a series of compaction energy on Khon Kaen Loess. The results showed that the maximum dry unit weights of samples could be related to the dry unit weight at plastic limit (PL), while the optimum water content (OWC) was correlated linearly with the PL. The samples with higher PL presented the higher OWC. In addition, the maximum dry unit weight and OWC of samples could be estimated using the developed equations validated with the other research results.

Streszczenie:
Traction forces that vehicles use to propel their wheels depend on efficiencies of motors, power transmissions, and vehicle constructions. Behavior of driver on acceleration or deceleration varies responding to road conditions, traffic lights, and driving styles. Average speed estimation of the vehicle under known road conditions can be obtained from the standard driving cycles such as the urban driving cycle by NEDC and the highway fuel economy test cycle (HWFET) by EPA. An urban area, Khon Kaen province located in Northeastern part of Thailand, mostly has flat and rough road conditions that have not been well recorded. In this study a GPS device was installed on a midsize vehicle to record speed and time on roundtrip test drives. In this paper, the data on speed of the vehicle traveled from Department of Electrical Engineering, Khon Kaen University to four nearby locations were investigated than compared with standard driving cycles. These data offer greater knowledge and development in power consumption of electric vehicles and transportation sector.

The study aimed to improve the small-ear waxy corn populations for prolificacy, high total carotenoid content and resistance to downy mildew. Three cycles of modified mass selection were carried out for population improvement. Forty-four genotypes derived from eight C3 populations and six check varieties were evaluated for agronomic traits and yield at Khon Kaen and screened for downy mildew resistance in the rainy season 2020 at two experimental sites in Ban Phang district of Khon Kaen province. Fifty genotypes were clustered into six major groups based on color parameter (h°) and total ear number. Two selected groups (C and E) with two populations of small-ear waxy corn including Nei9008/BK-24-9-B and TY/TF-33-1-B were selected as they were resistant to downy mildew, prolific ears, and intense orange kernel color. Modified mass selection was effective for improvement of multiple traits in waxy corn.

Aim: This study aims to determine the prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp. infection and to identify the species of Cryptosporidium spp. in newborn dairy calves between December 2016 and March 2017 in Muang District, Khon Kaen Province, Thailand. Materials and Methods: A total of 200 fecal samples from newborn dairy calves of the ages 1 day up to 28 days were collected and the presence of Cryptosporidium oocysts was examined microscopically using the modified Kinyoun's acid-fast staining technique. Then, Cryptosporidium species were identified using nested polymerase chain reaction amplification of 18S rRNA gene and sequencing. Results: The modified Kinyoun's acid-fast staining revealed the presence of Cryptosporidium oocysts in 51% (102/200). Sequence analysis of the 18S rRNA gene identified two species, namely, Cryptosporidium bovis (n=11) and Cryptosporidium ryanae (n=11) and one isolated strain could not be identified. Conclusion: This study indicated that newborn dairy calves aging up to 4 weeks were highly infected with Cryptosporidium spp., and the infection mostly occurred in diarrheic dairy calves. This is the first report of Cryptosporidium in dairy calves in Khon Kaen Province and the results provide baseline information for further studies and control of Cryptosporidium infection in dairy calves in the study area.

Objectives: The objectives were to assess the treatment outcomes of unilateral cleft lip and palate after primary surgery on nasolabial soft tissue of children ages 4–5 years old as compared with unaffected children and to establish a nasolabial soft tissue norm within Khon Kaen. Study design: This cross-sectional study consisted of 60 unaffected subjects living in Khon Kaen province and 20 subjects with repaired complete unilateral cleft lip and palate who were treated at Srinagarind Hosipital, Khon Kaen, Thailand. 3D images were taken by a Morpheus 3D Scanner and measured by the Morpheus 3D program. Independent t-tests and paired t-tests were used to analyze the significant differences between subjects with cleft and unaffected subjects. Results: There were statistically significant differences (p<0.05) of nasolabial measurements between affected subjects and unaffected subjects. Unilateral measurements showed decreased nostril height, columella lengths, and nose protrusion from ala base and ala length in the affected group. In addition, bilateral measurements found decreased upper lip protrusion, philtrum length, upper lip height, upper vermillion thickness, and lip angle. Conclusion: This study attempted to establish a norm for evaluating the treatment outcome of cleft lip and cleft palate repair at Srinagarind Hospital in relation to unaffected or noncleft individuals. The results suggest that the noncleft side in affected patients is not an optimal surgical guide for cleft repair and the surgeon should correct both sides of lip and nose features according to the norms. A surgical treatment plan should emphasize correcting nostril height, columella length, nose protrusion from ala base, ala length, and upper lip features.

Purpose Lung cancer is one of the most common cancers worldwide and in Thailand. We characterize and forecast region-specific patterns of lung cancer incidence by histology and sex. Methods We analyzed lung cancer incidence trends in Thailand by histology (adenocarcinoma [AdC]; squamous cell carcinoma [SCC]; and large-cell, small-cell, and other carcinomas) from 1990 to 2014 in four cancer registries in three regions (north, Chiang Mai Province and Lampang Province; northeast: Khon Kaen Province; south: Songkhla Province). Annual percent change (APC) was calculated to quantify the incidence rate trends using joinpoint regression. Age-period-cohort models were used to examine the temporal trends of AdC and SCC by age, calendar year, and birth cohort. We projected the incidence of AdC and SCC up to 2030 using three independent approaches: joinpoint, age-period-cohort, and Nordpred models. Results AdC incidence significantly increased from 1990 to 2012 in Chiang Mai males (APC, 1.3%), Songkhla males from 2004 to 2014 (APC, 2.5%), Songkhla females from 1990 to 2014 (APC, 5.9%), and Khon Kaen females from 2005 to 2014 (APC, 3.1%). Conversely, SCC incidence significantly decreased from 1990 to 2012 in Chiang Mai males and females (APC, −1.2% and −4.8%, respectively), Lampang males and females from 1993 to 2014 (APC, −5.4% and −5.2%, respectively), and Songkhla females from 1990 to 2014 (APC, −2.1%). In general, trends of AdC and SCC correlated more with birth cohort than with calendar year. Three projection models suggested that incidence rates of AdC in Songkhla may continue to increase until 2030. Conclusion Temporal trends of lung cancer by histology varied among regions in Thailand. Reduction of lung cancer incidence in Thailand likely will require prevention strategies tailored to each specific region.

This research was conducted in order to develop a learning school system at Wat Srichan School. This monk school has experienced problems related to quality due to the students’ low proficiency as evidenced in the unsatisfying O-net Test score. This research was framed around the participatory discipline in which both critical social theory and theory of post-modernism were integrated in order to assure the attainment of information from collobaration between the researcher and the research participants. Thirty research participants were engaged in different processes of the research, including planning, acting, observing, and reflecting upon the results. These research processes were deployed in 2 semesters between the academic year 2015-2016. The development was aimed at creating positive changes in the student’s learning. The research created three developmental projects: 1) Creating an environment that promoted learning, 2) Developing teachers to foster teaching skills that promote critical thinking and creativity among the learners, and 3) Developing critical thinking skills and creativity for the learners. The projects were found to be effective for the promotion of learning at the school because the overall scores of all of the projects’ indicators and the score for each individual project were both averaged above 3.50. The project helped to create awareness among the researchers and the participants regarding the importance of collaborative and democratic measures as crucial means for success. Particularly in this research, it was observed that in order for the learning environment to be created the three projects mentioned above should be implemented.

Streszczenie:
The objectives of this research were to study the home working production process and to study labour rights understanding of the home workers in the rural area of Khon Kaen province, Thailand via the qualitative research methodology. Data collection was based on an in-depth interview and observation to 18 home workers, which conducted during March August 2010. The content analysis was employed to data analysis. The results indicated that the formation of the home workers was driven by the demand from the producers from neighboring villages. These producers were operating within the chain of production associated with other producers from the central part. Due to their formation as a group, their existing skills in garment and tailoring, and their increased labor management skill, they had the ability to get order directly from the outside producers. Despite their limited negotiation capacity regarding benefits, the informal labours considered the home workers as economically rewarding and beneficial to their family. As regards understanding on the labour rights, the home workers define the labour rights as the right to social insurance, the right to safe work place, the right to medical services, and the right to increased wages. The majority of them had a limited understand about the labour rights as it was related to the rights and duty of the employees and employers.

Streszczenie:
Rubber trees grow predominately in the southern and eastern areas of Thailand, where there is the majority of rainfall. However, the rubber tree plantations extend to north and northeastern areas, with lower annual rainfall. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of rainfall on growth of rubber tree in northeastern areas of Thailand. The outcome of this work should be helped to indicate the optimum area for rubber tree planting in northeast. The study was undertaken using rubber tree clone RRIM600 by comparing the girth at 150 cm at the soil surface, planted in areas of differing rainfall: in Nongkhai, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Roiet and Buriram provinces. The sample of 50 trees was selected in 3 plantations per province (150 trees per province). The results found that there was no significant difference in girth of the rubber trees in all areas. However, the rubber trees planted in Nongkhai, where had highest rainfall, had highest growth. Moreover, the relationship between rainfall and growth exhibited a positive correlation, demonstrating that higher rainfall increased the girth of rubber trees.
