Streszczenie:
This chapter examines talent management through the lens of worker flows, emphasizing the interdependence between staffing decisions across jobs and over time. It reviews existing theories on how people flow across jobs within and across organizations, as well as how organizations balance those internal and external flows in staffing jobs. Although different theories have generally been used to analyze internal and external mobility, I note that organizations are using increasingly market-like structures to manage internal moves, while research is also revealing increasing amounts of structure

Throughout the industrialized world, international migrants serve as nannies, construction workers, gardeners and small-business entrepreneurs. Labor Movement suggests that the international migration of workers is necessary for the survival of industrialized economies. The book thus turns the conventional view of international migration on its head: it investigates how migration regulates labor markets, rather than labor markets shaping migration flows. Assuming a critical view of orthodox economic theory, the book illustrates how different legal, social and cultural strategies towards intern

Jordan stands in the middle of a turbulent region, experiencing substantial refugee flows and economic challenges due to the conflict and insecurity of its neighbors. While the Jordanian economy and labor market in 2010, prior to the refugee crisis, had been shifting in a positive direction, it was an unanswered question how the labor market is faring during these challenging times. The fielding of the new Jordan Labor Market Panel Survey (JLMPS) 2016 wave offers an unprecedented opportunity to assess the challenges Jordan is facing across a number of markets and services. OECD countries compete to attract and retain international students as skilled migrants. By definition former international students are of prime workforce age, face no regulatory barriers, and have self-funded to meet domestic employer demand. Within the global ‘race for talent’ they have emerged as a priority human capital resource. This chapter examines the study-migration pathways that have evolved in the past decade within skilled migration policy frameworks. Three case studies are provided, assessing select challenges in the context of national debate. The first examines the UK’s attempt

In this chapter we assess the buffer and flow dimension of the social investment state for early school leavers and lone parents in the Netherlands. By applying an ‘at-risk household-type model’, we show that the buffer function of the welfare state for the two risk groups out of work has declined in the last decade, particularly for early school leavers. On the other hand, the buffer function, in terms of minimum income protection, for those risk groups that have acquired paid employment has significantly improved. In terms of labour-market flow, we show that capacitation of risk groups is an
