Large language models have demonstrated outstanding performance on a wide range of tasks such as question answering and code generation. On a high level, given an input, a language model can be used to automatically complete the sequence in a statistically-likely way. Based on this, users prompt these models with language instructions or examples, to implement a variety of downstream tasks. Advanced prompting methods can even imply interaction between the language model, a user, and external tools such as calculators. However, to obtain state-of-the-art performance or adapt language models for

In this project, we propose SignifAI which is an AI-powered software that translates French Sign Language into spoken French. The goal of SignifAI is to remove the language barrier that separates the deaf and hearing communities. The translation process proves to be a major challenge for existing methods, as most of them rely on traditional Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods which solve the task in a similar way as spoken languages (e.g., paying more attention to the logics and reasoning). The drastic syntactical difference between sign and spoken languages, however, makes such approach

Abstract Large language models (LLMs) represent a major advance in artificial intelligence and, in particular, toward the goal of human-like artificial general intelligence. It is sometimes claimed, though, that machine learning is “just statistics,” hence that, in this grander ambition, progress in AI is illusory. Here I take the contrary view that LLMs have a great deal to teach us about the nature of language, understanding, intelligence, sociality, and personhood. Specifically: statistics do amount to understanding, in any falsifiable sense. Furthermore, much of what we consider intelligen
