Pilot in-the-loop oscillation (PIO) is a phenomenon which occurs due to the dynamic interaction between pilot and aircraft. This detrimental aircraft handling quality appears through a variety of flight conditions and is very difficult to predict. Due to this complex behavior, PIO is not easily eliminated. Limit theorems in the sense of weak convergence of probability measures for the Lerch zeta-function with algebraic irrational parameter are obtained. A theorem of mentioned type on the complex plane, a joint limit theorem for a collection of Lerch zeta-functions on the complex plane as well as a limit theorem in the space of analytic functions are proved. The central theme of this thesis is the application of mirror symmetry to the study of the arithmetic geometry of Calabi-Yau threefolds. It formulates a conjecture about the properties of the limit mixed Hodge structure at the large complex structure limit of an arbitrary mirror threefold, which is supported by a two-parameter example of a self-mirror Calabi-Yau threefold. Axicons have been proposed for imaging applications since they offer the advantage of extended depth of field (DOF). This enhanced DOF comes at the cost of degraded image quality. Image processing has been proposed to improve the image quality. Initial efforts were focused on the use of an axicon in a borescope thereby extending depth of focus and eliminating the need for a focusing mechanism. A novel concept of multiple deterministic analyses is proposed to design safer and more damage-tolerant structures, particularly when excited by dynamic including seismic loading in time domain. Since the presence of numerous sources of uncertainty cannot be avoided or overlooked, the underlying risk is estimated to compare design alternatives. To generate the implicit performance functions explicitly, the basic response surface method is significantly improved. Then, several surrogate models are proposed. The advanced factorial design and Kriging method are used as the major building blocks.
