This paper targets the nearly cosmopolitan weevil subfamily Lixinae. A phylogenetic analysis of one mitochondrial and two nuclear DNA fragments obtained from 87 Lixinae and 49 outgroup terminals strongly supports the monophyly of the subfamily. The molytine tribe Mecysolobini is the likeliest sister group of Lixinae; adults of both taxa share the likely synapomorphic condition of the greatly shortened labial palpi. Phylogenetic relationships within the subfamily are poorly resolved. None of three Lixinae tribes is recovered as monophyletic. The subfamily’s oldest dichotomy is formed by a clade

Mature larva and pupa of Larinus vulpes (Olivier, 1807) (Curculionidae: Lixinae: Lixini) are morphologically described for the first time and compared with known larvae and pupae of other Larinus species. Very high counts of larval body setae (pronotum with more than 25 setae and postdorsum on meso- and metathorax and also on abdominal segments I–VII with more than 12 setae) are characteristic features of the nominotypical subgenus Larinus. The biology of the species was studied in Ukraine. Echinops ruthenicus and E. sphaerocephalus were identified as host plants of both larvae and adults of t

They possess all the characters considered distinctive in the immature stages of this tribe and are distinguishable from all the related genera by a combination of some characters (e.g., presence of endocarina, shape of premental sclerite; the number of pds on the abdominal segments; size and presence of urogomphi). The genus Pachycerus Schoenherr, 1823 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Lixinae, Cleonini) in Poland. The species identified as Pachycerus madidus (Olivier, 1807) is recorded from Poland based on three localities in western regions and Lower Vistula valley. The problem with separation of two Central European species, P. madidus and P. segnis (Germar, 1823), is announced based on variation of key morphological characters. The origin and age of Polish populations of P. madidus are discussed.

The application of the name Curculio echii Brahm, 1790 is discussed. Based on the description it is evident that it should be applied to a German species of the genus Rhabdorrhynchus, and that it has priority over the name currently applied to the species, R. seriegranosus Chevrolat, 1873. The new combination Rhab-dorrhynchus echii (Brahm, 1790) is proposed. As there is a lack of any type material of C. echii a neotype is designated. Based on the study of the type specimen, R. seriegranosus is restored as a valid species.

Exeristes roborator (F.) and Xylophrurus ?nigricornis (Thomson) are for the first time recorded from Northeastern Turkey. E. roborator was reared from five species of the weevil genera Larinus Dej. and Rhinocyllus Germ, developing in flowerheads of Asterceae, and one species of the genus Lixus F., developing in the stem of Polygonacaeae. The single specimen of X. ?nigricornis emerged from the larva of Lixus ochraceus Boh. developing in the stem of a crucifer. All weevils belong to the weevil subfamily Lixinae (=Cleoninae) (Coleoptera, Curculionidae).
